Program Fees All program fees are due at the time of registration. Cash or cheque payment must be received by the Between Friends office within five business days or registration will be cancelled. If you require payment plan options or Fee Assistance, please let us know at the time of registration.

Fee Assistance Between Friends does its best to ensure that every member with a wish to attend programs is granted the opportunity. In order to remain accessible, we subsidize all programs for all participants. To further ensure that programs are available to all, Between Friends offers the option to apply for additional fee assistance, and to arrange for payment plans. Fee assistance is available for two (2) sessions per camp. To apply, please register for your session(s) of choice over the phone or in person, and indicate the need for fee assistance. Application forms will be provided and must be completed and returned to the main office within five (5) business days. Non Sufficient Funds (NSF) Policy A charge of $45.00 applies for NSF cheques. The issuer will be given 24 hours to make payment by VISA, MasterCard, money order, certified cheque, or cash, before registration is forfeited.

Cancellation Policy  o cancel registration you must call 403 508 0110. A 15% cancellation fee will apply to ALL T cancellations. Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the start of a program will forfeit a refund. Refunds will be provided only when vacancies can be filled. If Between Friends cancels a program due to low registration, you may transfer to another program if space is available or receive a full refund. We will make every effort to contact you prior to the start date of the program if cancellation is necessary.

Important Information A minimum deposit of $225.00/week for Minnows or $450 for all other age groups for Between Friends Camp Bonaventure, and $300.00 a week for Between Friends Camp Funz’Amust is due at the time of registration, unless an FSCD addendum stating full coverage can be provided at that time – NO EXCEPTIONS. If you would like Between Friends to direct bill FSCD for your camp fees, an FSCD addendum is required within five business days of registration.

Between Friends Camp Bonaventure is a fun outdoor, accessible,summer day camp for children and youth, with and without disabilities. Campers experience positive social interactions while challenging their abilities and learning new skills. This inclusive setting can be adapted to all ability levels. Through Between Friends Camp Bonaventure, participants build self-esteem and develop a sense of independence and accomplishment. Campers are grouped by age to encourage interaction with their peers and to facilitate age-appropriate programming.

Between Friends considerably subsidizes summer programs through fundraising efforts. Friends in Motion: Bowl-A-Thon (see page 13) is our biggest source of subsidy for Between Friends Camp Bonaventure, Between Friends Camp Fun’zAmust, and Between Friends Adventurers.

Activities Between Friends Camp Bonaventure focuses on activities that challenge our campers’ abilities in a safe environment. All activities are monitored by our highly trained staff and include a variety of skill development opportunities such as: physical movement skills, social skills, and building positive identity. Campers will get to experience swimming, sailing, arts and crafts, games, overnight camp outs, campfire sing-a-longs, unstructured free play, and much more! Between Friends Camp Bonaventure even has a horticultural therapy garden and multi-sensory room to meet our campers diverse interests and needs.

6 Summer Camp Programs 2019

Support Ratio Between Friends Camp Bonaventure can accommodate counselor to camper ratios of 1:2 to 1:6, with most groups organized into a 1:4 ratio. We use information collected on participant profiles to assist us in structuring ratios within our groups and in providing additional volunteer support as required. If your camper requires a 1:1 support ratio, they are welcome to attend camp with their private support aide. If you are unsure if your camper will require a private support aide, please contact your Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC). Unsure of who your CEC is? Call 403 269 9133.

T-Shirt Design Contest Your design could be on the new camper t-shirt! Submit a drawing of your favourite part of camp on an 8 ½” x 11” sheet of paper. Ensure that the artist’s name, age, their parent/guardian’s name, and a phone number are on a separate piece of paper submitted with the design. Between Friends has once again partnered with 1000 Voices at Genesis Centre to offer programming for the Northeast quadrant of Calgary. In summer 2019 we are running 2 two-week day camps in July. The Northeast Day Camps (Goose & Moose) will start and end their days at the Genesis Centre, 7555 Falconridge Blvd. NE. Each week campers will experience two onsite days at the Genesis Centre and join in with other group activities at Between Friends Camp Bonaventure at Riveredge Park. Transportation to offsite activities will be provided.

Campers 10 years and older have an optional campfire and overnight as part of their two-week camp schedule. Overnights will start at camp on Thursday at 4:00pm and run overnight until pick-up at 10:00am Friday morning. There is no camp following an overnight pick-up on Friday. At campfires, campers enjoy a sing-a-long, games, and other activities. Parents and caregivers are always encouraged to attend campfires. During overnights campers spend the night sleeping in a tent. Leaders are always accessible to campers throughout the night. Coyotes and Grizzlies share the same overnight dates, alternating with Badgers and Wolverines who share overnights every second Thursday. Please Note: Minnows, Chipmunks, Otters, Goose, and Moose groups do not have their own campfire or overnight dates. However, campers are welcome to attend our other campfire dates. If your camper attends, parents and caregivers must also attend to supervise them.

Between Friends Camp Fun’zAmust is a week long sleep away camp experience offered in partnership with Easter Seals Camp Horizon. It is designed for youth, teens and adults with and without disabilities. Between Friends and Easter Seals Camp Horizon staff are skilled in providing a safe and enriching environment that is inclusive for participants of all abilities. Between Friends Camp Fun’zAmust is wheelchair accessible.

Between Friends I.C.A.N! Services are offered through partnerships with Between Friends and local community recreation providers. Participants with disabilities choose, enroll, and participate without specialized support. Partner Camp Leaders provide the majority of guidance for your camper; however, a Between Friends trained Recreation Inclusion Facilitator (RIF) will be on-site at each camp for the entire summer to support the inclusion process. Between Friends partners with over 40 social and recreation providers around the city, including all YMCA locations, Trico Centre, Vivo, University of Calgary, MRUKids, and SAIT summer camps!

Who Can Participate? Between Friends I.C.A.N! Camp participants must be a Between Friends member. Members of all ages can participate as long as the partner camp offers programs for your age group. Members must have an interest in and desire to participate in activities, and be comfortable with minimal support in a larger than typical ratio. It is recommended that members attend Camp Bonaventure if they need a higher level of support than what inclusion camps can provide.

Recreation Inclusion Facilitator (RIF) The RIF supports Partner Camp Leaders by providing advice on creating an inclusive environment. Before the start of camp, the RIF will educate staff on the inclusion process and best practices. The RIF will also be monitoring the inclusion process throughout each day at camp and be available to support staff.

Between Friends I.C.A.N! Camp Registration Spaces are limited in each Partner Camp, so register early. Between Friends I.C.A.N! Services are offered for 1-4 weeks based on availability. 1. Choose the Partner Camp of your choice, register, and pay fees accordingly. There is no cost for Between Friends I.C.A.N! Services thanks to the support of our funders and donors. 2. Provide Between Friends with full details of your registration, so that we can assign a RIF. 3. A week prior to camp, your assigned RIF will be in contact to discuss the inclusion process, participant’s abilities, and assess their needs at camp. Friends In Motion: Bowl-A-Thon! Between Friends will be hosting our 5th Annual Friends in Motion: Bowl-A-Thon in March. We had a fantastic time in 2018 and can’t wait for you to join us again! All funds raised from this event will directly support the quality summer programming we offer for children, youth, and adults with disabilities. Volunteer With Us Between Friends Camp Bonaventure


To volunteer at camp, you must be 12 years or older. Junior volunteers are ages 12-15 and are placed with participants their age or younger. Volunteers ages 16 or older are welcome to volunteer with any age group. As a camp volunteer, you will be asked to help with supervision, support, creating friendships, and assisting our participants in a variety of camp activities such as: swimming, sailing, canoeing, and day trips. Volunteers are required to actively participate in all camp activities, and be positive role models. We require our volunteers to commit to a minimum of five selected days at camp. Between Friends Camp Bonaventure runs July 2 – August 23, 2019, Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 pm – 4:30 pm. There is a mandatory volunteer training session for new and returning volunteers on Friday, June 28, 2019. Learning the ropes – VIT Program.

Between Friends Volunteer in Training (VIT) Program Developed for members of Between Friends or members of the public who have a disability and want to learn and develop the necessary skills it takes to become an ongoing, independent and successful volunteer. The mission of the program is to ensure that the selected participants going through the Between Friends VIT Program work on individual skill sets to become a full-fledged volunteer at Between Friends programs. Between Friends Camp Bonaventure runs July 2 – August 23, 2019, Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 pm – 4:30 pm. We require all VIT Participants to select a 2-week session at camp, for a total commitment of 10 days. There is a mandatory volunteer training session on Friday, June 28, 2019.

The program is open to applicants 16 years of age or older, who are fairly independent and eager to work on their skill development goals. Applicants MUST be willing to participate, and be a role model for all program activities.
