WELCOME TO TORINO A city on a change

Torino was Italy’s first Capital. With its two thousand years of history, today stands at the heart of a major process that is transforming the territory. Heralded by several symbolic events over 25 years ago, during the mid-1990s the metamorphosis became a concrete reality and gradually came to touch every aspect of urban life: social, cultural and architectural. The Academic Institutions of the City have recently been rethinking their premises, by conservation and renewal works on their historic sites and by a far-reaching new building programme. The location policies of the Institutes have contributed to the drafting of a map of places acting as a point of concentration for people, functions, uses and services dedicated to the academic system but also at the disposal of the whole citizenry 19
