Johnson Reflects On Time At BHA Marlin Johnson spent nearly 20 years leading Bethany Home Association and helping the organization grow from a long-term care facility to a continuum care retirement community. Johnson marked his last day as administrator and CEO April 30. He announced his resignation in March and a farewell reception will be held Tuesday, May 6, to celebrate his tenure. Johnson came to Bethany Home Association in Marlin Johnson 1994 after serving as the COO for Hartford Inc. in Sabetha. It was two Lutheran ministers that convinced him to apply and then accept the job as administrator. Since joining BHA, Johnson has overseen numerous changes - both good and bad - in the healthcare field and services. “The healthcare field has become one that you must always be alert to changes and regulations because those usually spell costs or opportunities to be gained,” Johnson said. He added that the services offered at a tradi-

BHA has followed the industry trends under Johnson’s tenure by adding the independent living cottages and duplexes, building the assisted living home and purchasing the former bank building in Assaria to be converted into a homes plus. Despite industry changes and an expansion of services, BHA has never abandoned its commitment to quality, personalized care. See Johnson, Page 3

Johnson Johnson said he has continued to stay on top of new technologies and methods to allow staff to efficiently and effectively care for residents. “We are always changing and always adapting to the present and the future and continuing to do things to stay out in front of the curve,” Johnson said. “Bethany Home was early into

One of his favorite aspects of serving as administrator is seeing people flourish and succeed. “My job has allowed me the

opportunity to recognize people’s abilities and to place them into positions to succeed and to watch them fly,” He said. Johnson said he will now turn his attentions to finding a new position.
