2023 20 Years
Dear BHV Customer, 2023 has been a year of excitement and change...a lot of change. We opened 20 years ago, in 2003 at 10 Howe Street in the West End of Greenville with 600 rentals and 3 people to run the show. It was an exciting time as we flourished and grew in the upstate. By 2011, the space was stretched to its limit, which meant it was time to move. Our new space at 5 Cateechee Avenue was full of promise. It allowed us to get a fresh perspective on the business and reach even more of the upstate. The beautiful front garden was the perfect setting for hosting events such as Bernhardt’s Fiddling Competition and our yearly Christkindlemarket. Once again, our space filled up. We were running out of room for instruments, repairs, and employees. In 2022, we decided it was time to move again. In January of this year we did. We are thriving and have been blessed abundantly. We now have space for repairs, space for rental instruments, space for instruments to sell, space for storage, space for offices, space for customers, and space for parking! There is so much space! Along with moving, we launched a new website, completely overhauled our rental program by producing a video, launching our rental program on our website, and going almost paperless. We now have over 1400 rental accounts and 12 employees. You have made all of these changes possible. We want to thank you for your support of our small business.

Bernie began as a simple clipart stick figure of a violin in 2007. He had no name; he was just an idea. The simple character was lovingly named “Bernie”, and after a slight makeover and some adjustments, our mascot was born. Eventually, the spotlight became too much for Bernie and he took a step back from being a career mascot. After a restful and introspective hiatus, and of course another makeover, Bernie returned to the stage once again embracing his role as Bernhardt’s leading man. Over the past couple of years, Bernie has risen to stardom, his face plastered on stickers, websites, and posters. Soon, like every mascot’s dream, he was asked to star in his very own cartoon. Bernie got his voice in early 2023 with “Bernie’s Ballad”, debuting at the SCMEA conference in Columbia. From there, he took the Greenville, SC music scene by storm, revolutionizing Bernhardt’s rental meetings and advertising. Bernie’s hard work has been rewarded with his own pin collection, featuring the beloved mascot in different scenes and activities. Give us a visit and pick up your very own Bernie flair, while supplies last!
