A large variety of toys and more at great prices ROBYN BARDGETT

There are always hot commodities in toys every Christmas and children are always quick to let Santa know exactly what it is they want every year. While Santa works hard to get all the presents ready, parents are also working hard to make sure they have enough in their pocketbook to ensure the perfect toys are under the tree each year. Luckily, someone is looking out for parents when it comes to getting the best deal on toys. With their price match guarantee, Gibbons Company is offering customers on the hunt for toys a way to get those items at great prices. “If you can ship in an item at a lower price than we are selling it for and you can prove it we will match that price,” said Gibbons CEO Paula Clarke. “This year we have a large selection of toys and we pride ourselves in providing value for money

and fair pricing. “We have a lot more space this year after expanding the children’s department, so there is a great selection of toys.” The children’s department is bursting full with all sorts of ideas for Christmas. “We have a great selection, from early learning educational toys to recreational toys,” said Ms Clarke. On a recent visit there were slides and ride on toys and lots of toys featuring favourite characters such as Dora the Explorer and Batman. The shop is also filled with puzzles, blocks, interactive toys and rocking toys. Other brand names include Fisher Price, Little Tikes and Tiny Love.

Along with larger items, the shop is also filled with perfect stocking stuffers. They also haven’t forgotten about the youngest members of the family, with tons of baby items including rattles and crib

and stroller toys. Of course there is also a great selection of items to kit out your entire nursery –– from cribs, strollers, play yards and feeding equipment –– the store is full of everything a mother could need. Parents can also stock on clothing needs with a range of clothes from newborn to size 18 for girls and newborn to size 16 for boys. “We have everything for clothes this Christmas from church clothes to party dresses and ‘My First Christmas’ outfits,” said Ms Clarke.

The savings at Gibbons don’t just stop with their price match guarantee. To celebrate Black Friday, which happens today, the store will have tons of deals when they open the shop at 5am until they close at 9pm. Savings can be found throughout Gibbons as well as 25 Reid and Nine West. “Black Friday is one of the biggest days in November and it really kicks off the holiday shopping season,” said Ms Clarke. Starting up again next Friday until Christmas, customers can also get 20 per cent off their purchase throughout the store when they donate at least $5 to charity. “Each week we have a different charity in the shop and we ask that customers make a minimum donation of $5,” said Ms Clarke. “They do something to give back and we just facilitate it –– all the money goes to the charity. People can feel good

about giving to charity and benefit with the 20 per cent off all day at Gibbons Company.” Charities set to benefit include Meals on Wheels, the Red Cross and the Sunshine League. Thursday night corporate shopping nights are also in full swing and the shops will be open late on Thursday, to facilitate, as well as Friday night for late night shopping until Christmas. The shop also opens on Sundays from 1pm-5pm. “Basically we work hard to keep Bermuda-made money spent and kept in Bermuda and ultimately continue to employ Bermudians. There are 4,000 people employed in retail in Bermuda and that’s before you add in ancillary services. We need to keep us working. “We try to tailor everything around the needs of Bermudians and we have everything for the home for gifting and apparel as well as men’s and women’s shoes. “Watch this space as Gibbons Company is always doing new things.” n

The iconic TOMS shoes, which can be bought at 25 Reid, have a back story perfect for this time of year. The canvas shoes, which now come in a range of styles and colours have been a hit on the high street. But their One for One campaign has also touched their customers. For every shoe purchased, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need.

TOMS says, “The premise is simple, but the potential to help others is huge. “Since we started in 2006, our giving has grown significantly.” The company doesn’t just end with giving shoes, they also produce eyewear and have the same programme in which a pair of glasses is donated to help restore sight to an individual in need. To date the company provides shoes in 60 countries and eyewear in 13 countries. SOURCE: WWW.TOMS.COM
