Franรงois Hartog: the question was: how do we define ourselves, and, even more, what is our sophia? For the Greeks it was a question of: where does our sophia come from?

It is something that, since long ago, has belonged particulary to us, and yet we have produced thousands of stories that say that it came from elsewhere?

How can something that is ours come from elsewhere? It is this movement, this pulse, almost this breadt which links the same with the others that we should be exploring through the image of a voyage.

ME: These are the places, where I have gathered and absorbed different memories with different people during different times of my life. I believe these experiences have value which sculpted my compound into the very person i am today. I also believe that these collections which have value could be shared and exchanged to process information in order to benefit the greater good of a group or an organization with a healthy cause.

CABINET DEPLOYMENT > an exercise to create out of scale domestic spaces by placing a bed around different surroundings.

> I gave the feeling of being tucked-in while sleeping in each of of my deployments. I think security is the first priority for a consumer during this vulnerable activity.

CABINET DEPLOYMENT >>> PARTS BECOME WHOLE deployed cabinets create domestic scenes. domestic scenes translate into projected formal representations driven by imagination.

The form took shape through a progression of study models.

Enclosure revealed it’s self around the form.

The next step was to dictate the programs which were going to take place inside. Thus, the project shifted from conceptuality to reality.

CABINET DEPLOYMENT >>> PARTS BECOME WHOLE

URBAN INFILL > The project demands a two family unit condomium, placed between two romanesque row houses in the south side of chicago. The condomium is divided and interlocked based on the “one whole” diagram. the reason behind this type of division is to provide views and access of both sides of the house for the two units of families.

THE PROJECT STARTED WITH A STUDY OF SHAPES AND PATTERNS. I TOOK THE PATTERN WE ALL DID IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEXT TO OUR NOTEBOOKS AND TRANSFORMED IT INTO A TANGIBLE OBJECT. I CALLED THESE LITTLE OBJECTS “KUPS”. HENCE THE PROJECT TOOK IT’S NAME “KUPS LASALLE”. stacking --> height --> cover

THE PROJECT CREATES A CITY WTIHIN A CITY WHICH OFFERS NATURAL TASTES THROUGH LARGE MARKET SPACES. OPEN SPACES ALLOW FOR DIFFERENT OUTDOOR AND INDOOR ACTIVITIES TO TAKE PLACE. PROGRAMS VARYING FROM DAILY NEEDS TO ENTERTAINMENT ARE OFFERED THROUGH OUT THE BUILDING. THE FEELING OF A LIVELY DENSE CITY IS ENVISIONED BY NARROWING CIRCULATION BETWEEN TABLES ON THE GROUND FLOOR. THE THEME FOR THE BUILDING WHICH CREATES AN ATTRACTIVE GATHERING LANDMARK FOR THE NORTH SIDE OF CHICAGO IS THE AVAILABLE NATURAL FOOD. ONE CAN OBSERVE THE FOOD GROWN IN THE UPSIDE DOWN GARDENS UNTIL IT REACHES THEIR PLATES’ IN THE RESTAURANTS NEARBY.

The panelling system on this building serves 3 functions 1 - operable shading device 2 - non-operable shading device 3 - hanging gardens latching device Residences are equipped with the operable shading panels where commercial spaces have non-operable panels. Operability feature provides a sense owning and uniqueness for the residences where non-operability implies the equality among commercial spaces. Hanging gardens latch on to their own panel system which has originated from the modular play on residence panels.

CHAMPAIGN MUSEUM of ANCIENT LIFE THE CHAMPAIGN MUSEUM OF ANCIENT LIFE WILL SERVE THE CITY OF CHAMPAIGN AS A MUSEUM AND RESEARCH CENTER FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL STUDIES. HOUSING THE RECENTLY DISCOVERED T-REX SKELETON FROM ARIZONA, THE MUSEUM WILL DIVERSIFY THE PROGRAMMATIC CATALOGUE OF DOWNTOWN CHAMPAIGN.

THE DESIGN OF THE MUSEUM ORIGINATES FROM SPECULATIONS ON HOW ONE WOULD WANT TO OBSERVE A T-REX SKELETON. MY DESIRE WAS TO SLIGHTLY HIDE THE SKELETON GIVING A CLUE ON WHAT’S INSIDE YET NOT TOTALLY REVEALING THE MYSTERY. IN MY OPINION, THE BEST PLACE TO VIEW THIS BEAST WOULD BE IN ITS’ OWN DEN.

ADOPTING AN OVERALL ANCIENT MONUMENTAL APPROACH, THE EXHIBITION SPACE STARTS TO HAVE A RUGGED, EDGY INTERIOR WITH THE STONES CLIPPED ON TO THE STRUCTURE. THE JOURNEY TO THE BEASTS’ DEN GAVE ME THE IDEA OF ESCALATING. THUS THE USE OF RAMPS SERVED THIS PURPOSE OF CREATING A HIKE TO THE DEN WITHOUT EXCLUDING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES.
