Annika Didelot Grade 3 16 November 2011 United States of America Introduction United States of America (USA) is the fourth largest country in the world. USA has many symbols that represent the country like the bald eagle and the statue of liberty. The land is mountainous and flat and half of its land is farming. Lots of people come to visit USA for its famous landmarks. Different cultured people come to tour and learn things about USA. There are 50 states in total. This report will talk about the location of USA, the places and its culture. Location There are many facts about the location of USA. It is located in the northern hemisphere and is in the continent of North America. Its two bordering neighbors are Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. Its cardinal direction would be northwest. The coordinates range is from 25-44 degrees north latitude and the longitude is 60-130 degrees west. Its nearest tropic is the tropic of cancer.

Place The land in the USA is unique. The land is low, flat and mountainous. . Its total area is 8,018,917 square kilometers. The sections are divided into 50 states. Some of the major cities are New York, Los Angeles Chicago and Las Vegas. Alaska is the biggest state in the U.S.A. The capital of the U.S.A is Washington D.C. One of the biggest rivers in the USA is the Mississippi River. Other major rivers are the Colorado, Ohio, and the Rio River. The most common crops produced in USA are in the Corn and Wheat Belt. California is a place known for its citrus fruits and unique wine. Half of the land is used to grow plants and farm. Some of the big industries are oil, produced in Texas and Alaska. Coal is also used


for electricity and coal is a natural resource. USA has lots of natural resources. For example, iron is used to make steel and lots of medals are mixed to make a stronger medal. One of the biggest industries in USA is the plane industry, called Boeing. Lots of cars are produced in USA, such as Ford or General Motors. Technology is also a big industry in USA. One of the biggest computer industries in U.S.A are Apple and Microsoft. Culture USA has many cultures and it is what makes the country so special. The official language in USA is English, but the second most common language is Spanish. There are many types of food in USA because the people in USA are of many races and ethnicities; they are people from all over the world so you can find many varieties of foods, such as Asian, European and Hispanic food. There are also a lot of fast food restaurants like Taco Bell, McDonalds, and KFC. USA also has lots of meat products like hot dogs and bacon. Americans love to eat hamburgers. Festival and celebrations are common and special in USA. One of the special holidays is Independence Day, and it celebrates the people battling and its freedom to become independent. Thanksgiving rejoices the settlers discovering new land. Christmas is what Christians celebrate and Santa Claus comes to give presents.


Conclusion In my paragraphs, I got to talk about USA and its information. Many different cultures come to USA to live and learn about the culture. I picked this country because my mom and dad were raised in USA. I also chose USA because I am from there, and I also used to live there. It is extraordinary to me because I have learned about significant heroes and exceptional landmarks.

The Place in Spain The land in Spain is very special. The population in Spain is 46,506,000. The total area in Spain is 504,783 square kilometers. In Spain there are mountains, beaches, sea, rivers and coasts. Spain has a major river called Ebro. Spain has the Atlantic Ocean dividing it from Minorca. In Spain there are a lot of olive trees, farming, forestry, fishing, grapes and wheat. There are many industries in Spain, such as the clothing, auto, shipping, iron, steel, tourism. In Spain the major cities are: Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Madrid. The capital city is Madrid. The Climate in Spain Spain is a warm all year long. During the winter it is not very cold. In the spring you can go to the beaches and go shopping but the sea can be a little cold. In the summer it is hot and the beaches are beautiful. Spain’s Culture There are many dialects in Spain. In Spain, most people speak Castilian. The people that live in the east speak Catalan and in the north people speak Gallego. As one can see, there are a lot of languages Spanish people can speak. Spanish people have a lot of holidays in summer because it’s too hot to work under the big shining sun so they have holidays for two months. In Spain, there is tomato festival in Valencia when people throw tomatoes at each other in a giant food fight. In Pamplona, there is a Bull Run festival where bulls run in the streets and people can get hurt.


Conclusion I think everybody should go to Spain to relax. People can go to the beaches or to go shopping. I learn there are many festivals and it is a beautiful country. I think the country is special for me because my grandpa was born there, and when there was the war he came to France.

Location The USA is located in the continent of North America and is in the northern hemisphere. There are no tropics near USA. The coordinates of the capital city,


Washinton D.C. are 38째West and 77째North. The bordering neighbors are Mexico to the south, Canada to the north, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Places The population of the United States is 308,745,535 people. Fifty percent of the land is farmland. Now, only two percent work as farmers. Some things they grow are fruits, grain and diary products. The USA is divided into fifty states. Some of the big states are Texas, Oklahoma and Alaska. Some of the small states are New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine and Maryland. Medium sized states are New York and Ohio. Manufacturing is a big part of the industries in the USA. There is seventy million tons of iron produced each year. Planes and cars are large industries in the USA. For example, Boeing and General Motors are important companies. USA has many natural boundaries. The natural boundaries that most people know are the five great lakes, which are Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, Lake Superior, Lake Huron and Lake Ontario. The major cities are Chicago, New York City, Atlanta, Phoenix, Seattle. The capital city is Washington D.C. Culture There are so many languages in the United States. The official language is English, but many people also speak other languages, such as Spanish. You can find lots of kinds of food from all over the world in the USA. For example, for breakfast Americans enjoy eating sausages, bacon and eggs. For lunch and dinner, people can go to Greek, Italian, Chinese and many other varieties of restaurants. The USA is also famous for macaroni and cheese, hot dogs and hamburgers.


Celebrations and festivals are important in USA. July 4th is Independence Day. This day is for remembering the people who fought in the far to free the country. Conclusion I truly benefited from studying about my country. It was very exciting learning about it. I picked this country because I was born there. I want to continue to learn more about USA.

South Korea Introduction South Korea is a peninsula that is surrounded by water. South Korea is a country that has loads of mountains and it is famous for its fishing industry. Many years ago, South Korea used to be one country, but during the early 1900s there was a huge civil war. Korea was divided into North and South Korea and still today there is a border separating the two countries. This report will talk about the South Korea’s location, places and its rich culture. Location Everyone from South Korea knows where South Korea is. South Korea is located in the northern hemisphere, and is in the continent of Asia. To the north, it borders North Korea and to the east, it borders Japan. The coordinate range is about 128 degrees east of the prime meridian and 38 degrees north of the equator. There are no tropics near South Korea, but it is closest to the Tropic of Cancer.

Place Lots of people like to travel the mountains at South Korea. South Korea has many mountains and it is low. One of them is named Gum O Shan, Gumi. The major rivers are Han and Nak-dong River. The total area of South Korea is 49,678km2. The population is 49,169,000 when the government counted in 2010. In South Korea, there are 33 cities. The major cities are Seoul (capital city), Pusan, Incheon and Taegu. In the countryside there are many farms. They usually grow wheat, but many other crops are grown. South Korea’s industries are electronic goods, cars and fishing. The biggest company is Samsung.

Culture The people in Korea speak the language Korean. The Korean language was made by King Se Jong. When King Se Jong invented the Korean language, the Hangul was created. Now, everyone follows the Hangul. Food is a big part of the Korean culture. There are different types of Korean food. Korean people love to eat spicy food. When they eat hot and peppery food, they say, “very cool.” Their hobby is eating piquant food and Koreans cannot eat a meal without Kim chi, a type of cabbage. Food is one way to celebrate holidays. They celebrate the New Year’s Eve with their families. They celebrate Chusuk, which is in the autumn. Koreans wear special traditional clothes at Chusuk and New Year’s Eve. They are called Han Bok. There are different clothes for both boys and girls. The boys wear pants, long shirts, and a tiny bag. The girls wear a dress, top shirt, a hat and a tiny bag.


Conclusion This report tells many facts about South Korea. I chose South Korea because I did not know much about my country. I did not know much about my country because I have never studied in the South Korea before. I like my country because I was born there and lived there. I care for my country and one should love your homeland if you know the good things from your country. I enjoyed researching about my country and its history. I hope you will love your country just like I love mine.

South Koreans wear special clothes called Han Bok. Along time ago, South Korea was one country, but after the war it was separated to South Korea and North Korea. This report will talk about the location of South Korea, the place and its rich culture.

Location South Korea is located in the northern hemisphere. North Korea borders north of South Korea and to the east is Japan and China is west. The coordinates of the South Korea are 434°- North latitude and 125°-130°East longitude.

Place There are many interesting facts about the places in South Korea. In the country, there are many farmers. They usually grow wheat and other crops. There are many Korean industries, such as electronics, cars and fishing. Korea’s total area is 99,678 km and more than 2/3 is covered with mountains. The major river is the Han river and the capital city is Seoul.

Culture Hangul is the language they speak in South Korea. A long time ago Koreans used Chinese characters before a person called King Sejong made up the Korean language. Koreans love to eat food. South Koreans like spicy things like kim chi or spicy bul go gee, which is a kind of meat. They always need rice to eat with all their dishes.

Conclusion I wrote about South Korea because that is where I’m from and it’s a wonderful place. I learned much about South Korea like the culture, place and its location. It was a pleasure to research about my country but it was hard because I did not know much about South Korea.

Place Colombia’s land is low. The population in Colombia is 44,205,000. Colombia is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. The longest river in Colombia is Magdalena River. Colombia is famous for coffee, banana, flowers and forestry. They eat caffe with sugar. Colombia also love to eat cheese and it has cheese that is special. Culture Colombian people wear light color clothes because it is beautiful. Spanish is the main language spoken in Columbia, but there are indigenous languages for a small minority. Colombians celebrate Halloween and Christmas and three Wiseman. This is when people give presents. The majority of Columbians are Christian. Conclusion There is superior food in Colombia and it is very hot there. Colombians love celebrations. I chose Colombia because my mom comes from Colombia. I like this country because it is a beautiful place. I hope I will go and live there one day.

Land and Place The USA’s land is a special place. Almost half of USA is made up of farmland. The total area is 3,678,190 square meters and the population reached 308,745,538 people. The major rivers are: Mississippi, Missouri, Green and Rio Grande. The two mountains that surround USA are the Rocky Mountains and Mount McKinley. The two oceans that surround the USA are the Pacific and Atlantic. The USA is known for some of the biggest and brightest cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, Washington and Chicago. Washington D.C is the capital of USA. Culture There are many different cultures in the USA because lots people go and live there. The USA is famous for its film industry because it has many popular movies, such as Jurassic Park, Star Wars and Titanic. People from all over the world watch American movies. Sports are a big part of the culture too. People like to play and watch American football, baseball, basketball, and ice hockey. In the USA, people like to eat fast food. For example, hotdogs, hamburgers and pizza are popular foods. Food is a great to way to bring families together and celebrate. A popular holiday is Thanksgiving, Christmas and Independence Day. Independence Day is celebrated on July 4th. They celebrate with picnics and fireworks. Conclusion The USA’s environment is very good. The nature in some parts can be gorgeous and many people like to visit these places, such as the Grand Canyon. I learned that there are many landmarks in the USA and the USA have many different people from various places. I like the USA and I hope to live there when I grow up.

Location There are many facts about where Switzerland is located. Switzerland is found in the northern hemisphere and is located in the continent of Europe where it borders Italy, Austria, Germany and France. The coordinates range for longitude is about 7 degrees east and 47 degrees north latitude.

Place Switzerland’s place is special. The population is 7,807,000 (2010) with a total area of 41,285 square kilometers. In Switzerland there are about three major rivers Neuchâtel, Genève and Locarno. The major cities are Zurich, Bern, Basel, and Genera. Switzerland is famous for their cheese and chocolate. Other industries are watches and knives. Switzerland has lots of mountains so it’s not so flat, but it is still able to grow lots of vegetables because there are several farms. The climate in Switzerland is all four seasons. The average temperature in the summer is between 18-21 degrees celsius.

Culture Switzerland is fascinating because of its culture. In Switzerland, they speak many languages: English, German, French, Swiss-German and Italian. It also


celebrates many festivals. One festival is called the children’s festival. They rejoice the first day of summer and the girls wear white dresses and boys wear pants. They go to church and play games. In Switzerland, the food are pizzas, Swiss cheese, sausages, pasta, and fondue.

Conclusion I chose Switzerland because I lived most of my life in China so I would like to know a little more where I come from. I learned that in Switzerland they speaks 6 languages and there are many famous things they can make.

Location Taiwan is a special land. Taiwan is located in the northern hemisphere. The continent is in Asia and it has no bordering countries beside Taiwan. There are many natural


boundaries around Taiwan. The Philippine Sea is in the east coast of Taiwan. The coordinate range is about 35° north and 120° east.

Place Taiwan’s land and place is very extraordinary. The total area of Taiwan is 36,191 square kilometers. Most Taiwanese cities are flat, but outside of the city it is very mountainous. Most people live in the western part of Taiwan because the eastern part of Taiwan is too mountainous. Because Taiwan is so mountainous, farmers have to share tiny land. Taiwan is divided into provinces. Taiwan is famous because of its technology and electronic companies, such as Best Pals and OES. There are countless manufacturing companies. The major cities are Tainan, Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, Taichung and Taipei. Taipei is the capital of Taiwan.

Culture Taiwan has a rich amount of culture. Taiwan has a lot of festivals. For example, during Chinese New Year people give hong bao where you put money inside an envelope and then you give it to your friends or your family members. Food is also an enormous part Taiwan’s culture. Taiwanese like to eat jiaozi, which is a meat dumpling.


Conclusion I choose Taiwan because it is my home country, and I want to learn more about Taiwan. I learned that Taiwan has a lot of companies and it is a beautiful island. I would like to go and live there.

Location Korea’s location is very special and beautiful. The hemisphere of Korea is North and East. Korea is in the continent of Asia. North Korea and China border South Korea. The coordinates range are 34°- 38° North and 125°-130° East. Place Korea’s land and place is very special and particular. Korean is low. (low mountains cover most of South Korea). The lowlands near the rivers provide the country’s best farmland. In the country, people are faming there. They usually grow wheat and other crops. South Korea has a mountain called Mountain Hall in Jeju-do. North Korea has a mountain called Mountain Peak-du. The total area is 99378 square kilometers and the total population of South Korea is 49169000 (2010). Korea is divided into 6 or 7 parts. The major river is the Han river. The major cities are Seoul, Busan, Inchon and Taegu. Seoul is the capital city of South Korea and Pyongyang is the capital city of North Korea. The Korean meal is important to the people. Most Koreans like to eat a spicy cabbage (side dish) called kimchi [kim-chee] with homemade rice. There is also a delicious beef called bulgogi [bull-go-gee] and a grilled seasoned beef called galbi [gahl-bee]. The South Koreans like to celebrate the lunar calendar holidays. To celebrate the Lunar New Year, everyone has to dress up in a special type of clothes


called hanbok and most people like to visit their grandparents. When they arrive and greet them the children have to bow deeply to their parents and grandparents and receive a small gift in return. Conclusion Korea is a peninsula that sticks out of China. Long time ago there was a huge war between Korea and Japan. But now everything changed. Korea is a nice place to stay or visit, especially Seoul. Seoul has lot of lights at night so it is so beautiful. Also there are lots of famous movie stars in Seoul. Close to Seoul there is a park called Lotte world. I think everybody likes Lotte world because there is many animations there. In my city Cheon’an, they have lots of delicious restaurants and five star hotels. If you visit Korea, I suggest you go there. The reason why I chose Korea for my information report is because I was born there. It is my country, and I really did not know much about Korea.

Denmark is in the continent of Europe and is located the northern hemisphere. Denmark has only one bordering neighbor and that is Germany. The coordinates range is about 5-15 degrees north and 5-55 degrees west.

Place There are many facts about Denmark. Denmark has more hills than mountains. Denmark is divided into areas and there is a lot of farming. Denmark has many industries. For example, Continental, Michelin, Kvickly, and Netto. Denmark’s landscape is low and its total area is 43,098 square kilometers. The population of Denmark is small, about five million. It is the Atlantic Ocean that surrounds Denmark. It has many lakes surrounding the country, such as Ringkobing and Odense fjord. The major cities in Denmark are: Copenhagen (capital), Roskilde and Arhus. Copenhagen is so big that there lives 1.4 million and it is so crowded that there needs to be a lot of industries and education. Copenhagen is on the eastern coast and almost every city in Denmark is on the eastern coast. Culture There are many cultures Denmark. They speak one language in Denmark. The main language spoken is Danish. In Danish food there always needs to be bread and some of the most popular bread is called rye bread. Christmas is the main festival in Denmark. Families sing and dance around a tree and children love it when they receive presents. Conclusion This report about Denmark talked about the place, location, and the culture. There is a map showing Denmark’s land and borders. I think this was entertaining with the organizer, and I enjoyed writing facts about Denmark and then publishing my report.
