FORGET ME NOTS by Janet Fountain
The annual bingo was held in the Village Hall on Thursday, 2nd November. This year we were down on numbers but still had an enjoyable evening. Prizes were donated by members and the caller for the evening was Dennis Clarke. On 22nd November members and friends went on a coach trip to Milton Keynes Christmas shopping for the day. The Christmas dinner on 7th December was very successful attended by 47 members and friends. A and M of Whittlesey were the caterers once again and provided a four course meal. Afterwards we were entertained by a male duo - The King and I who sang mainly songs from the 1950’s and 1960’s finishing with Christmas songs which we all joined in with.
However it is with great sadness that I have to report that we have lost one of our most loyal members. Rosie Clarke passed away on 8th December after a short illness. Rosie had been a past Chairman for 26 years and had given a lot of time and effort for the benefit of the club. She really will be missed. We extend our sympathy to Dennis and the family.
There is no meeting in January, therefore the first meeting in the New Year will be on Thursday, 1st February at 6.30pm in the Village Hall when the annual business will be conducted and subscriptions of £7.50 are due. Leisure time will be bingo and the competition is any item beginning letter B. If you are 55 and over, male or female you are very welcome - come and join us. Interested? Please call Janet on 01354 677228.
POLICE FUNDING Police & Commissioner Ablewhite asks the public via a survey how much they are willing to support policing as part of their council tax for 2018/19. The Constabulary is already a very efficient force with savings of £17.2 million over the last 5 years. However they need to do more to respond an increase in demand, increase the ability to investigate crimes and deter people from criminality. If each household (in a Band D property) paid just one extra pound each month, it would equate to an additional 55 Police Officers. A link to the survey can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey. co.uk/r/W3CD8P3. The survey runs from Fri, 5th Jan until Mon, 29th Jan 2018. It is also available with an Easy Read description. Views can also be given by telephone: 0300 333 3456 or by email: cambs-pcc@ cambs.pnn.police.uk.
