The Celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee are beginning to come together, and you can read all the latest on page 6, and on the Lilyholt Road website. On page 14 you can find a little more information on Turf Fen Charity, which provides funds to help those in dire need.

he building work continues with steelwork now taking shape. As expected there have been a few issues over the last 2 months which we have now resolved. The base is in place which because of some unexpected foundation detail which was under the old path has changed a tad ( and increased the cost somewhat ) but we are now back on track. Weather permitting steelwork should be completed and brickwork commenced by the time this bugle is published – but as already shown with this project we perhaps should expect the unexpected. The internal work we understand is still on to commence March 12th which as reported last month means the hall will be out of use until the end of May. The village hall committee has been in touch with all users but if there are any questions in this regard please contact Pat or any other village hall committee member.

the event next year so please look out for details. The quiz date has been amended to March 10th so please give me a call to book your team in. The current champs I know are very keen to show there form again, however I understand Doddington will be sending a strong team again. It would be great to see some new teams, come on Benwick we don’t want the title going out the village. Finally I just say a quick thank you to all this who have helped with any of our events past and future and everyone who attended and supported the fundraising. I will update you further on the building in the next bugle.

This year’s Burns night celebration which was run in conjunction with the village hall committee went very well, a good time was had by all with the added dimension of the line dancers and Ernie’s new songs the evening was a great success. Many thanks to all who helped on the evening. The Village Hall committee will be running www.benwickbugle.co.uk 16

‘Riting’s from the Rectory Like most boys I enjoy my toys and was pleased to get a new one for Christmas. I had a new camera and though it was not hugely expensive it was a next step up from my previous basic level digital one which I found a bit disappointing in terms of pictures it or I produced. I have been busily snapping everything in sight and by the law of averages at least some of the pictures to my untrained eye have turned out rather well. I discovered that my laptop came with a free 30 day trial of a famous image editing programme that has the potential to do amazing things with digital images. I say the potential because, of course, I don’t know how to use it. I found a guide that contained some example projects with step by step instructions and set off on my little adventure to produce a silhou-

ette of a landmark picture and then add an amazing sunset and sky behind it. I guess this must be how the tourist boards produce those evocative images in their holiday brochures. Having employed the magic wand tool (they really call it that) etc. after quite a bit of trial and mostly error I eventually completed the project and produced an image that is unique and I am very pleased with. I emailed it to some family members to see what they thought and my son replied “The results are very good – seems like cheating though!” So what can we make of an image today? The New Testament says that “Jesus is the image of the invisible God” Colossians 1:15 and Jesus Himself told His follower Philip who wanted to see God that “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father”. John 14:8-9 so if you want to see a true image of what God is like look at Jesus, read a Gospel and see God for yourself. Now that really is a project worth doing and you won’t need a magic wand.
