Aston Martin on Ice February 16: This Ultimate Drivers Day will include a sumptuous mountain lunch in a track side yurt, and of course the opportunity for guests to hone their skills on a custom-built ice track under the professional instruction of the Aston Martin Driving Team.

Gothic Mountain Tour February 20: A thigh-buster, the Gothic Mountain Tour is a true backcountry challenge of a race. The course is 22 miles and 4,300 vertical feet. The race starts at the Community School.

Big Air on Elk Avenue March 5: Whether its snowing or not, this true Crested Butte event is not to be missed. Elk Avenue in Downtown Crested Butte will be shut down for the evening on Fat Tuesday in celebration of Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras Parade March 16: The main street of downtown Crested Butte, Elk Avenue is blocked off to host this Colorado Freeskier’s annual event. The Big Air competition features a huge kicker with skiers and riders pulled to speed by snowmobiles

19th Annual GORE-TEX Elk Mountains Grand Traverse March 25: The Grand Traverse is an extraordinary 40-mile backcountry ski race between the towns of Crested Butte and Aspen, CO. It benefits Crested Butte Nordic and other non-profits. It starts at midnight from the Base Area.

The real estate market in Crested Butte and Gunnison continues to march at a strong pace with significant gains in several sectors. Although activity has tapered during the holidays, both the number of properties sold and the sales volume increased approximately 15% in the first three quarters of 2015. The most notable rises in home sales occurred in the rural valley areas (32%) and in Gunnison (58%), with sales volumes of $102 million and $65 million respectively. Condos in the rural pockets also sold well, with a 47% increase in volume representing over $10 million. Leading indicators for building activity are the strongest in years with lot sales volume increasing 114% to $41 million in the Gunnison valley. CB South led all sectors with 32 lot sales, an increase of over 250% over this time last year! Even though new home building activity will level upward pressure on existing home prices, it reflects strong buying demand, and it supports a healthy overall economic outlook for 2016. SUSAN MARRION

F E AT U R E D A R T I S T Susan Marrion began oil painting in 2004, under the guidance of local Crested Butte artist, John Ingham. Having never painted before, John first helped her begin to change the way she perceived things in nature like form, shadow, color and values. Susan realized there was much more going on than what she had originally perceived. To be able to capture some of this on canvas quickly became a desire and goal. Having grown up writing, Susan realized most of what she wrote about were her impressions of nature: the light, the colors, the ever changing mood, but most of all, the way she felt when in the Natural World. When John first asked why she wanted to paint, Susan realized it was for the same reasons she had wanted to write. Simply put, to attempt to express what she saw and felt in Nature. This is still why she is painting today. Susan was born and raised in Westchester County, New York and was blessed to grow up with horses: teaching and eventing as an earlier career. Susan has a B.A. in English Lit/Creative Writing. She moved to Boulder, CO in 1994 where she received her training as a practitioner of The Rolf Method of Structural Integration and then opened her practice in Crested Butte in 1996. However, she is now a full time Oil Painter/Artist and manages and displays her work at Ingham Fine Art Gallery, at 403 Third Street, downtown Crested Butte, with her husband and photographer Raynor Czerwinski.
