FEATURED EVENTS Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival

December 12: High Country Conservation Advocates (HCCA), the environmental advocacy organization of the Gunnison Valley, is happy to bring The Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival to the valley for the third year in a row. This year, HCCA is proud to partner with the Crested Butte Nordic Center and the Crested Butte Avalanche Center to make the Gunnison Valley film event a celebration of all things winter and human-powered. Also for the first time this year, HCCA will bring the festival to both Crested Butte and Gunnison, for two unique showings. Both events will feature a raffle full of great winter gear and local swag!

Crested Butte Santa Crawl

December 13: Come join in the fun! With its combination of skiing and costumes, The CB Santa Ski is an unforgettable experience! The event has two main parts – The Santa Group Ski & The Santa Pub Crawl. The Group Ski is open to all ages and is free to participate. All you need is a Santa suit and either a season pass or a day pass to the mountain. Be a part of history! We have submitted the event to the Guinness Book of World Records and are eagerly waiting to hear back from them.

Crested Butte Center for the Arts - Winter Concerts

December 13 to April 3: This winter the Center for the Arts has acts Blackalicous, Due West, Tony Furtado Trio, MarchFourth Marching Band, John Popper with Brothers Keeper, Ben Miller Band, Willie Barcena, Wood Brothers, The Claire Lynch Band, Marc Cohn, Taj Mahal and Jukebox Burlesque. Rock on Ice

December 14 to December 20: Visit Mt. Crested Butte for an ice carving festival featuring some of the world’s most renowned carvers. These talented artisans will create works of art from bulky blocks of ice. You’ll surely find a perfect family holiday photo opportunity admiring the fantastic ice sculpture garden in the Courtyard of Mountaineer Square. With daily ice carving demonstrations, this event is truly a wonderful way to enjoy the holiday season!

Torchlight Parade and Fireworks

December 31: Enjoy a torchlight parade put on by Crested Butte’s finest ski and snowboard instructors. Watch as they wind their way down the mountain carrying orange flames to light up their path. Following the torchlight parade, there will be a fireworks show, best seen from the base area of the mountain.

Roost the Butte - Snowmobile Events

January 10 to January 11: The 3rd Annual Roost the Butte will consist of 4 snowmobile events: snowcross, hillcross, snowovals and hill drag. Contestants will vie for a chance at the prize money and bragging rights. Watch from the terrain park or bottom of Gold Link lift as snowmobilers fly around the course for their chance to win.

Mountain High Music Festival

January 14 to January 18: Nestled in the beauty of Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado, It’s “Music with an Altitiude.” At the Mountain High Music Festival, you can ski by day and be part of the mix and mingle atmosphere by night. Get upclose and personal with some of music’s biggest acts! The exciting line-up includes performances from esteemed recording artists and singer/songwriters such as Texas mainstay Robert Earl Keen, Lee Brice, Rodney Clawson, Thompson Square, Nicolle Gaylon, Brooke Eden, Sonia Leigh, Due West, Colin Lake, The Crowlin Ferlies, Chris Coady, Bill Dowell and hosted by Dean Dillion.

29th Annual Alley Loop Nordic Marathon, Fat Bike Race & Pub-Ski Crawl

July 4 to July 5: The Alley Loop’s unique course starts and finishes in the heart of downtown Crested Butte at Second and Elk. In between it meanders through snow-lined alleys, behind false-fronted stores and restaurants, over footbridges and alongside residences. The course then heads out to the expertly groomed Nordic trails on the pristine outskirts of Crested Butte. For course details, times and to register visit cbnordic.org. In addition to great races for skiers of all abilities and ages, the Friday night pub ski crawl and a Crested Butte Fat Bike Race is not to be missed. Market Report

Even though our real estate market did not take the path we thought, our market for 2014 will end with 6% growth. It started off really slow and then ended the year with a full head of steam. The first quarter was down 50%, the second quarter was down 25% and the third quarter was even with the 2013. Each year we hope to have a healthy 5% to 7% growth and 2014 looks to hit within that sweet spot. Now not all sectors of our market grew and some sectors even had significant decreases in sales volume compared to previous years. For example Crested Butte single family homes grew by an almost whopping 50% this year while single family homes outside of Crested Butte were down 32%. The condo and townhome markets in Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte both grew in total volume and number of properties sold. Land sales in the upper valley were down overall. For more detailed sold data check out our online Quarterly Reports. As long as the national economy stays strong, in 2015 we should see an overall growth in the 5% to 10% range. We had an influx of people in our valley this summer and throughout our shoulder seasons which resulted in the Crested Butte sales tax to be up by almost 30%. Also this year there has been a severe shortage of long term rentals in the upper valley. Both of these factors will help with continued growth for our mountain community.

TIERNEY M. MILLER The original art of Tierney Miller ranges from Contemporary Representational to Lyrical Abstracts, transcending trends and providing aesthetic elegance to numerous private collections throughout the US Driven to produce her art by the sheer pleasure and challenge of it, Tierney combines her 2 passions, art and travel, to create an eclectic body of work. Although Tierney’s art often reflects a variety of locations and subjects, she often finds herself pulling inspiration for her work from things closest to home and is intrigued with the heritage of the American West. “In one sense my art is a very private, personal journey in search of order, reasons, reality, reflection and beauty. What is important, is the experience one has in relationship to the work.” Originally from Wisconsin, Tierney has been calling Gunnison, Colorado home since 1980, but spends time regularly in The West Village - NYC.
