If you are not registered with any doctor or would like to change your GP, you can find out about GP surgeries in your area by: • Calling 0845 46 47, or • Visiting the NHS Choices website at www.nhs.uk

You can find out the following about each surgery: • Surgery address and phone number • Surgery opening hours • Name and gender of GPs • List of clinics/services offered • Access and facilities information

Manchester LINk What do you do if you’re refused registration?

• GP surgeries may refuse to register new patients for a number of reasons • However, these cannot be related to race, gender, social class, age, religion, sexual orientation, appearance, disability or a medical condition • If you are refused, you are entitled to a letter of refusal within 14 days, stating in writing the reasons behind the decision • If you receive two letters of refusal, contact the Primary Care Trust (PCT). They have a duty to find you an alternative practice within your area within 2 days. You can contact Manchester PCT on 0161 219 9451 (PALS) • If you require urgent treatment, you may need to visit a GP walkn centre • If you have any enquiries, contact PALS on 0161 219 9451 or pals@manchester.nhs.uk

Manchester LINk Your rights as a temporary resident

• If you’re living in an area for between 24 hours and 3 months, you can register with GP surgeries as a temporary resident • As a temporary resident, you’re entitled to the same treatment as a permanent patient, including referral to other services, prescribing of medication etc • To register, you may need some basic information, such as: information to find your last registration and medical records (name, date of birth, NHS number if known, previous addresses). Also details of any past and/or present medical conditions, medications, allergies etc • If you are refused registration, ask for a letter of refusal and contact Manchester PCT to locate an alternative GP surgery on 0161 219 9451
