La jas Food Truck :: Concept Packaging + Identity + Branding

In celebration of my heritage, I designed a concept for a Puerto Rican food truck. All of the illustrations and custom logo-type are original. The color scheme and pineapple logo are inspired by La jas’ city flag. All of the menu items are based on Puerto Rican comfort food. Printed on Neenah desert storm 110lb cover, the packaging element is also inspired by the Lajas pineapple.

Haunt :: Side Project :: http://www.haunt.benlaud.com jQuery + Responsive Web Design + Google Maps API + Branding

Haunt is a side project of mine that was first appeared during my 31 Day Logo Challenge. I expanded the concept into a responsive web app using the Google Maps API. This is an interactive map of Providence, Rhode Island, which contains some of the haunted locations we have to offer. I also produced some vinyl stickers to promote the brand.

LEO LEO

31 Days Of Logos :: Challenge Logo Design + Branding

For an entire month, I challenged myself to create an original logo every day. While coming up with a logo, I also had the freedom to conceptualize businesses, apps, and even a few one-off TV series. Since completing this challenge, some of these have concepts even been developed into full side-projects.

Rhode Island International Film Festival :: Non-Profit Responsive Web Design + Wordpress Theme Development

During my Digital Solutions Team course at Johnson & Wales University, a partner and I had the opportunity to provide design/development work for a local non-profit organization. I created a custom Wordpress theme for RIIFF’s website to serve as an information hub and event schedule. The brand guidelines and color scheme were provided by my Creative Director, and I had full creative freedom with the layout and led the development of the site.

Seiun Virtual Idols :: Startup :: http://www. seiun. co Wordpress Theme Development + eCommerce + Apparel + Illustration

This project has a little bit of everything. Seiun is an indie production that makes Viki Hopper, a virtual performer that can sing anything from pop ballads, synth filled EDM, and even hard rock. I conceptualized, recorded, and illustrated Viki, and designed a line of merchandise to go along with her. It all comes together in a custom Wordpress site that I integrated with WooCommerce and Printful in order to sell tees, allow artists/musicians to download Viki, and post news updates.

Plan C :: Editorial Spreads Print Design + Layout + Photography

For this project I had the chance to conceptualize and design a feature editorial spread for a standard 8 3/8” x 10 7/8” magazine. I was lucky enough to know a very talented writer, Maggie DeGroat, who allowed me to use her piece “Plan C” as my content. To compliment the serious yet sarcastic essay, I blended my own moody photography with colorful design elements and allowed the author’s voice to shine through eye catching pull quotes.

Squidz :: Side Project :: http://www.squidz.benlaud.com Responsive Web Design + Photography

On a Friday night with nothing better to do, fellow designer Erin Quevedo and I created this brand and website lampooning “trendy tee shirt companies. We actually named the brand after my cat, Squid, and produced several cat-sized tee shirt designs. While Erin handlettered the shirts, I built a responsive website, wrote the copy, and was responsible for the product photography.

Scott Orwig Personal Branding :: Freelance Logo Design + Identity + Illustration

When approaching this project, I kept in mind that a design-heavy solution would not be appropriate for an accountant. However, the limited color palette and thoughtful typography resulted in a simple yet memorable brand identity. For the logo, I created a hand-drawn letter form based on the Client’s initials.

Metallicallie :: Freelance Logo Design + Branding + Illustration

Metallicallie is a blogger who provides free meals for metal bands touring through New England. She requested a “creepy Tim Burton inspired illustration of her with a complimentary text lockup. The illustration has a globe, liquor bottle, cheese wedge, and devil horns coming out of her head which highlight the food, travel, and heavy metal related content of her blog.

Pose & Pour :: Side Project Print Design + Layout + Photography + Book Binding

For this project I wanted to create a fun and slightly kitschy hand-bound photo book. For Pose & Pour, I collaborated with model Gina Nicole Coizza and bartender C. Parker Luthman. The bright and bold lookbook pairs original fashion photography with unique cocktail recipes. Between these spreads, I added empowering quotes and “Party Hacks as tips for a perfect night out.

The Grange :: Redesign Responsive Web Design + Static Site Development

This website redesign was a group project assigned in my Interactive Architecture & Content Design class. I was in charge of the web layout and responsive behavior. I decided to go with imagery that highlighted the natural and rustic aesthetic presented by the interior of the restaurant while also keeping a modern and fresh appearance. The restaurant’s original logo was illustrated by a fellow classmate.

Girl Code :: Concept :: http://www.girlcode.benlaud.com Responsive Web Design + Static Site Development + Branding + Apparel

For a class assignment I was assigned to conceptualize and brand my own non-profit. Inspired by close friends of mine who are breaking gender stereotypes in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields, I created Girl <code/>. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s mission is to teach and inspire young women to enter STEM fields by providing opportunities to learn coding languages such as HTML, CSS, Python, Java, and many other important industry tools.
