Celebrated 72 Years On April 9

The Vision of the Gospel Center Rescue Mission

Anna says, “I’d like to say thank you to the donors. Everything is much appreciated and very useful to us and the children here. It touches my heart to receive from a person/company; to know they care and don’t even know who I am. Thank you!” What was your family like? My mother married my step-father when I was 4 years old. My stepdad was an alcoholic and abused us. My mom kept quiet. She had two more boys. I lived in a very dysfunctional family. Who introduced you to drugs and what happened after you began using? My stepdad introduced me to alcohol when I was 12 years old. I began drinking with him almost everyday when he got off work. I cut most of ninth grade. I was going to the park and drinking with my “friends”. I was then introduced to drugs and smoked them until 2011. I graduated highschool, then had my first daughter and lived off welfare. I continued to “party”. I have several DUI’s. My life consisted of nothing but using and drinking while trying to raise a family. It wasn’t fair to them. How did you hear about the Mission? I had tried the program in 2008, but I wasn’t ready to stop drinking and using. I continued to come here to eat dinner and get clothes from the closet. I felt hopeless and knew there was something better for me. I couldn’t get out of the pit I was in. I needed help. I used to think that I was too old to stop drinking/using. I thought that’s all there was. I also figured my kids didn’t want me, so what else is there for me? It took me leaving my hometown to get clean. I felt love when the Mission opened it’s doors to me so I could now begin my new life. What are you learning while at the Mission? I’m learning patience, caring for other people, strength and kindness. My goal is to study at Delta in the Spring to become a certified nursing assistant. Thank you for giving to help others like Anna! Our Mission:

To minister to the needs of the homeless of Stockton and San Joaquin County including individuals suffering from addictions, without regard to race, gender, nationality or origin.
