Your questions answered by

Meghan Maher Repertoire’s Style Director I have just turned 65 and wonder what length summer pants I should be wearing? The most ideal pant length should always be determined by the shape of your legs and the skin and muscle tone, which is generally age dependent. The most flattering and age appropriate pant lengths are on the knee for shorts and 7/8ths or full length. Pant hemlines will always draw attention to the area of the leg that they finish on. It is vital when wearing a different pant length that you ensure that it finishes on a part of your leg that you like, ideally the narrowest part of your lower leg. I recommend that you analyse your legs in a mirror and decide on what pant length suits you best before going shopping. If you love a pant that you feel may be finishing on an unflattering part of your leg you can always try rolling them up, or let the hem down to see if the change in hemline makes a difference to how they look and feel. The 7/8th pant which is currently in fashion is a great length. It is best worn with a heel and can also be rolled up to a 3/4 length and worn with a flat shoe if this suits you. Just remember 65 is the new 45 - exercise, great nutrition, body lotion and spray tans make any girls legs look fabulous no matter what her age!

Dry Skin? Is your skin dry and sensitive, or even feels stretched and rough? Many people feel that in spring and summer their skin is affected by strong winds and increased sun exposure. At the same time, you may have naturally dry skin. This is often caused by insufficient production of sebum, the oily/waxy substance that protects and lubricates the skin. The reasons for this can include nutritional deficiencies, aging, genetics, or a health condition such as diabetes, atopic dermatitis or an underactive thyroid. It can also be a side-effect of certain medications, such as blood pressure pills and the oral contraceptive pill.

How do I treat dry skin? The best approach to improve dry skin conditions is to not only nourish and protect the skin from the outside but also from the inside through nutrition and improving overall health. Externally, you should avoid the use of harsh soaps. Choose soaps or cleansers specifically designed for dry skin (our therapists can give you the best advice). Make sure you protect your skin from the elements with a good moisturizer. This should contain Vitamins A and E, plus sun protection. Your skin may also benefit from products with added Retinol and Alpha-Hydroxil Acid. Another option to use for the whole body is coconut oil, the main ingredient in the Pure Fiji Body Butter range, which is available in several beautiful scents in our salon. Coconut oil and raw cane sugar are used for our Pure Fiji Sugar scrub, which gently exfoliates the skin, taking away dry, scaly skin cells, while at the same time nourishing the new skin. Our therapists can advise you of the best options for your skin. It’s easy to add a few things to your diet that will have a big impact on your skin’s health. Some of the super-foods rich in Vitamn A and E, zinc and other nutrients important for good skin are: avocados, macademia nuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, coconut oil and bee pollen. Fish, fish oil capsules or flaxseed oil provide Essential Fatty Acids needed for beautiful and healthy skin. Finally, providing the cells with enough water is essential for a healthy and subtle complexion. While we all know that we should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, remember that fruits, salads, vegetables, fresh juices (have you tried mixing fruit and vegetables? - It’s delicious!), smoothies and soups also have a high water content and can be counted towards this amount. These foods will not only provide your body with enough liquid but also fibre and a range of vitamins and minerals. On the other hand, coffee and black tea are dehydrating - so limit your intake of those! Our in-house naturopath Gabriele is happy to look into any deficiencies you might suffer from and give advice on necessary diet changes. She will discuss ways of keeping a good acid/alkaline balance with your diet, which will not only improve your skin but also has benefits for overall health and anti-aging! “Love of Beauty is Taste.
