La voile latine symbolise en effet la mémoire de la voile en Méditerranée, comme un témoin transmis de littoral en littoral. La voile latine est, depuis des millénaires, la voile du pointu, la barque traditionnelle du pêcheur méditerranéen, toujours soumise à rude épreuve.

For the lateen sail has come to symbolise the memory of what sailing was like in the Mediterranean, a witness passing from coast to coast down the generations. For thousands of years, the lateen sail has been used for the “pointu”, that most distinctive, traditional and feisty of the small Mediterranean fishing boats.
