Should Vending Machines Be In School?

By Kendall Adams I believe that vending machines in schools should be allowed. Vending machines can help with school payments. Students will use the opportunity to get snacks out the vending machine if they have a chance, so why not use the money for something important like school payments such as, school computers or afterschool activities Secondly, students don’t always have the time to get a full breakfast at home. This leads to them not focusing in school because of hunger, which can lead students to fail their classes and not want to complete school. Also having vending machines are important because during the day students are constantly drinking water or energy drinks to stay hydrated and energized during the day. An easy access to these drinks will be good for students because at any time of the day they can get a drink and be energized for school. Also, if you’re worried about students eating unhealthy snacks from the vending machine there is no need to worry because schools can provide healthy delicious snacks at affordable prices. The lunch meals that the school provides are not very tasty which leads kids to not eating lunch at all, students are starving themselves at school then eating the horrible lunch schools serve. If the school provides a vending machine the students who don’t favor the lunch can get a quick snack from the vending machine at affordable prices, that can fill them up until they get home. In conclusion, schools should provide vending machines because it will have a huge impact on the students for the better.

Homework Not For Everyone?

By Devin Ferguson Students in grades 1-12 get homework, yet some people might think homework is a breeze even parents, but what some parents and teachers do not know is that their very much stressing there child or student out. According to Ejinsight Over 70% students don’t like homework and says homework is the main source of sleep deprivation in most teens in grades 7-12. In experience doing my homework later on at night would keep me up at night causing me to get no sleep. Daily homework isn’t very helpful according to Ejinsight over 50% of students don’t do their homework and take bad grades. After researching I’ve found average colleges would take a gpa of 3.0 meaning a B meaning if these students do not do homework this could very much hurt your child’s or students grade making them unsuccessful. Some parents may say “why not just do the homework.” But some kids might have after school activities like sports, clubs, or just family activities and won’t be able to do it until they get free from doing what they was doing, or they might forget to do it.

Are School Days too Long or Are they too Short?

By Bryee Alpers Do you think School days are too long? Or do you think school days are too short? Schools are now shortening their days to save money, is this a good or a bad thing? I think school days are too long and this is why. First, by having school end later kids get home later, and kids who do after school activities like sports and or clubs get home even later than kids who don’t! Those who do after school activities most likely have homework and when the get home they have to do that instead of spending time with their family or relaxing for the next day. If we had shorter school days we would be able to come home and do this slower and more peaceful. We also would be able to study for tests and get better scores on them. Next, because school days are so long, kids tend to skip class because they think if they show up late the class will go by shorter according to Walden University. In addition, students are more focused when things are shorter according to Ed100. Having a shorter day would help the students grades and attendance be better according to the In fact, a way to shorten school days is by taking off at least 10 minutes per period. This is because by the time the bell rings the teacher has to take attendance, gets lessons ready to teach, and waiting on the students to get settled themselves it has been about 10 minutes. By taking off 10 minutes in each class period that would shorten the school day by a lot according to the By doing this kids will know to get settled faster, because they know that class is shortened. Teachers can then get attendance done faster and be able to get to the lesson faster. By taking 10 minutes off of each class, schools would be able to shorten the day by a lot leaving time after school for other things.

Schools Need to Help Students with Mental Health Issues

By Kaleb Hanson “Half of all mental illness occurs before the age of 14, and 75 percent by the age of 24--highlighting the urgent need to create systemic approaches to the problem.” -Child Mind Institute School is one of the most important part of a child’s life. They gain friends, knowledge, life skills and life lessons. But, a lot of children just can and will not gain friends and learn some of the life skills and lessons they need to know to be and stay successful. Their anxiety just overwhelms them and takes over, they get too scared and worried about talking to others and doing anything social. It’s sad and disappointing to know students have to deal with it everyday (I deal with it myself so I know how it feels). But on the bright side according to Neatoday, “Studies show that 81% of teens with anxiety get better with treatment.” Schools need to start worrying now and do something about it for the future of their stu-

dents. They need to start programs for students in grades 5-10 because according to the people at ACMH, “Nationally, only 40% of students with emotional, behavioral and mental health disorders graduate from high school compared to the national average of 76 %.” It is scary to think about how the national average is 76 % but 60 % of students don’t graduate from their mental illness. Not only should schools start caring and pushing solutions to mental health issues with students, the news and many other popular news sources need to help push it as well, a lot of parents push off the “issues” and just tell their kids to feel better or feel happy which does nothing to help their situation they are in.

Middle Schools Should Have A Free Period

By Daniel Sampayo More and more kids are tired of having too much school work. I personally have an hour of homework but some of my friends have 2 too 3 hours of homework and it could be trouble if they have sports right after school. It is tiring because you are doing lots of work and some of that work can go into sleeping time. “42 percent of people in the United States between the ages of 12 and 54 are nearsighted. But 40 years ago, that number was only 25 percent, a change that can't be explained by heredity. Time indoors can weaken our vision, especially if we are staring at computer screens and not looking away for long periods of time.” According to Edweek. org This why we should have a free period because if we spend too much time staying inside or staring at screens, we might lose more eyersight than we already do everyday. We can go gym and the people from the gym can share half the gym or combine both classes and just hang around with friends. We can also get to know people more than the few in our classes or even use the time to finish work that we can’t do at home. It would be a good time to finish up group projects, too.

The School Week Should Be Shorter By Alyssa Butler

Brook was so excited to get home after school to hang out with her family, but completely forgot she had to stay after school for a club; her house was far from her school so she knew it would take long for her to get home. When the Brook’s parents came to pick her up from school she was so happy she could finally go home and hang out with her family. When Brook got home she rushed upstairs so she could set up a movie for the family to watch, but when she looked at the clock she noticed it was past her bedtime. Some people think that school should be five days but some kids spend more time at school then at home with family. In addition to kids spending more time in school than with family, I don’t think it’s fair how kids have to go to school for five days a week and only get two days to go to a museum or hang out with family. The school week should be shorter. If school is shorter, then kids could do other important things like exercise. Mary L Gavin from Kids and Exercise asserts that “Kids should exercise 60 minutes per day”. This evidence supports my reason because kids spend most of their time sitting down in a classroom but they’re supposed to exercise 60 mins. a day. If school was shorter it would save money and gas for parents and buses. On the website it says, “Some popular car models can make it between 30 and 50 miles but smaller cars can only make it from 43 to 47 miles” this information is good but some people’s cars only get between 18-23 miles. This matters because my buses and parents might have to drive really far to bring people to school and from school but if the school week was shorter then it would save them money and maybe gas. People might argue that kids should be in school longer so they can learn more however that is a weak argument because kids still learn even when their outside of school so kids will still be learning just not in school. For an example kids can do online learning on the day when they don’t go to school . Overall the school week should be shorter because kids could do other things.

Teens are Pressured to Look ‘Perfect’

By Rachel Park A young teen looks into a mirror once more, wishing she could look like the models she sees online. They are the definition of perfection. She cries herself to sleep that night. This is the reality of most teens. Teens look up to “beauty icons” who have gone through lots of work to look the way they do. It generates a pressure on teens and women to look like them in order to think they are beautiful. For example, Kylie Jenner is a famous tv reality star and is well known for her plump, big lips. According to The Odyssey, Kylie Jenner allegedly spent 2 million dollars on altering her appearance. In today’s society, women are only considered beautiful if they have a big bottom, large breasts, tiny waist, and a flat stomach. This brings down womens confidence in their bodies and appearance. 1,000 girls between the ages of 11-21 took part in a survey, the 2016 Girls’ Attitudes survey, and 80% felt their looks were the most important thing about them and 66% felt they were not pretty enough, and 61% felt the need to be perfect. People are too willing to change their looks or body to satisfy their peers. In the Broadview survey, 77% of the respondents stated they have felt that they had to change the way they looked for a boy and 24% said they changed the way they looked due to pressure from a boy. Teens shouldn’t have to change the way they look due to someone's opinion. Teens develop eating disorders to reach these unrealistic “body goals”. In 2014 a survey was taken; 31% of girls admitted that they have starved themselves to be skinny, 90% of highschool girls diet regularly, 30% of girls have smoked to lose weight, and less than 11% considered themselves beautiful. Even parents can trigger low self esteem. According to Susan Badger, a family therapist, parents often pass down their insecurities and take out their self hatred on their own children. As Badger stated, “When children feel loved, supported and protected by parents, they are prone to feel ‘good’ and secure about who they are. If parents are abusive, negligent, unavailable or critical, this can be hurtful and damaging.” Some might say, “Why are we so worried about our appearances?”. How are girls supposed to not worry when beauty standards are portrayed in magazines, social media, commercials, billboards, stores, and ads. According to, 60% of girls compare their bodies fashion models and 47% strive to look like models. Society needs the standard of beauty by presenting all girls from all over the world in different sizes. I think schools should provide support groups and promote self love. This would show girls that they are not alone and it’s possible to overcome these insecurities. Girls, teens, whoever is feeling bad about themselves, don’t let society tell you what is beautiful and what isn't. You are your own type of beautiful, embrace it.

The Sad Truth About Social Media’s Impact

By Taylor Jones Ashley Lovelace was only 16 years old when hate from social media got the best of her. A self-inflicted gunshot ended all the “pain and suffering” for her. Situations like this continue to happen all of the world due to social media. Social media is corrupting young teens like Ashley, causing them to become depressed, suffer from anxiety, or possibly to the point where they commit suicide. According to the World Health Organization, in the year 2019, approximately 1.53 million people will die from suicide. Social media is one of the main causes of these deaths and rising depression rates. According to UNICEF, “Adolescents often speak online to people they have existing relationships with offline...Insecurities are easily exacerbated by peers on social media. Bullies can disseminate violent, hurtful and humiliating words and images with the tap of a key.” With conversations with random strangers over social media becoming the new normal thing, cyber-bullies have plenty of chances. People need to start realizing how dangerous and life-ruining social media can be with the press of a button. The disgusting truth about how bad the bullying can get through a device is honestly that most media hate happens because it’s online. Some people think it’s okay to leave snarky comments like, “You’re not good enough. Stop trying to be pretty. Fatty.” The list of names could go on forever. Based off of research done by Child Mind, girls are particularly the ones at risk. According to Dr. Donna Wick, “The other big danger that comes from kids communicating more indirectly is that it has gotten easier to be cruel. “Kids text all sorts of things that you would never in a million years contemplate saying to anyone’s face.” The fact that this is true is sickening. Studies from Health Line have shown that, “...the use of social media [is linked] to depression, anxiety, poorer sleep quality, lower self-esteem, inattention, and hyperactivity — often in teens and adolescents.” Following these studies doctors have found that, “Social media use can harm your mental health, especially when it’s used more frequently...Setting limits and sticking to them can help minimize these effects.” In the end the people who monitor these sites need to start cracking down on the cyber bullies before it’s too late.

Why Juuling is a Big Issue

By Nathan Bray Imagine a world where millions of teens were harming themselves with nobody even knowing. Well this sadly may be a reality because of “Juuling”. The popularity of “hitting that Juul” has become increasingly popular over the past few years. They are very discrete being small, and looking a bit like a USB drive. This makes it extremely hard to tell if someone is Juuling. Many people have started targeting children trying to sell them Juuls because they know they will pay more than adults. According to the NCHR the chemical composition of the Juul pods is especially dangerous. The liquid is 5% nicotine, and they use “nicotine salts” instead of “freebase nicotine”. This means that it is more dangerous than regular e-cig nicotine and it is more easily absorbed into bloodstreams, and makes it easier for it to vape for a long time. Plus, one Juul pod is equal to about a whole pack of cigarettes. Many teens smoke multiple pods in a sitting, meaning that they are smoking over a pack of cigarettes every single day. On top of that, teens have ended up sharing the Juuls and have ended up spreading sickness by doing so. Many illnesses may be passed on by this including the cold, strep throat, the flu, and many more. This is a huge issue in the winter seasons, spreading sickness throughout communities and getting teens addicted to nicotine as well. In a study done by Business Insider about 6 percent of all teenagers 15-17 have used a Juul in the past 30 days. This means that about 750,000 teens in the U.S have Juuled in the past 30 days. Supporting this some studies by the NCHR have shown that Juuling may cause brain damage on top of giving you lung problems later on in life. There is a huge black market for Juuls as well because you must be over the age of 21 to get one in the U.S. This means that some people can charge up to 300 percent more for some kid to get addicted to nicotine. Juul attempted to get Ebay to restrict the sale of Juuls on their site, but to no avail. The U.S also had to ban the mango and creme brulee flavors of Juul pods because they were flat out encouraging younger people to start using their e-cig products. In conclusion, I believe that “Juuling” is a major problem because of the addiction rates, the chemical composition of the pods, the illnesses that may spread through the sharing of Juuls, the discreteness of the USB-esc e-cigs, and how many teenagers are doing it. It could easily get you addicted and is just not a good thing to be doing as a child. Supporting this some studies by the NCHR have shown that Juuling may cause brain damage on top of giving you lung problems later on in life. This should discourage people from “Juuling” but doing it makes you seem cool around your friends.

Dancing Helps The Brain and Body Function By Jordynn Martin

Have you ever wanted to workout get a good sweat? Well then just dance, it’s worth it! Everyone should do some type of dance. You can do hip hop, ballet, or lyrical. Dancing should be a type of workout that everyone should take. Its helps the brain function and it helps the body in a lot of different ways. Dancing is said to improve a person’s cognitive skill because it prepares the brain for prime learning. There is a lot of things that dancing can help like it helps depression, lower stress levels, and improve cardiovascular and bone health. According to psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Coyle of the Harvard Medical School, the hippocampus and the cerebral cortex, both of which play a role in dancing , are rewired and consequently improved with frequent use. Scientist say that older people can have healthier brains if they danced. They would have less chances of having dementia or alzheimer’s. There are the usual things that dancing helps with: strength, flexibility and endurance. Some people think its a waste of time or its too much money for one dance class, but what’s so good about having space and a phone you can dance anywhere. Some people do have back problems and knee problems, but scientist say belly dancing is better for older people with back pain. It sounds weird but there studies that show that it actually benefits those with pain. There are many different benefits in dancing; there are so many different genres of dance, so there is plenty to pick from.

Can Money Buy You Happiness?

By Jordan Milan When people say money can’t buy you happiness, they most likely think about actually buying happiness, but this isn’t the case. When some people that money can buy happiness, they probable mean that you can buy something that makes you happy, such as a vacation or object. Spending your money on experiences can raise your happiness. When you go on a vacation, you will most likely enjoy that vacation. If you take a trip to somewhere you would like to visit, you will be overjoyed. Going on trips with loved ones are also fun! Getting money can emit dopamine, when you are happy, your brain emits dopamine (raise happiness levels). Recent study from Princeton University that found people reported and increase in happiness as their income rose to $75000 a year. Having no money causes stress, having expectations causes people to believe that having money means more that what it does. Research shows that those who spend their money on others are consistently happier people. This finding held true for both the rich and the poor. People say that money can’t buy you happiness. when people say this, they think about actually buying happiness. This isn’t the case through. What people mean by buying happiness is buy buying things that make you happy, or spending money on something to make you happy. Research shows that those who spend their money on others are consistently happier people. This finding held true for both the rich and the poor. A 2014 study surveyed how participants felt before and after making a purchase. Before buying, participants said they believed that life experiences would make them happier, but that material items had more value. But after their purchases, they felt that life experiences not only made them happier, but also had higher value.

SATs Are Unfair and Unnecessary

By Alyssa Trotter In order to get into college, you must have a good GPA, and a good SAT score. Some schools only accept scores of 980/1600 and greater, however, high-end colleges might require higher scores. Even though they are so important, students aren’t given a chance to show their academic abilities when taking the SATs. The SATs can play a major role in making it into college, so you would probably want students to have a fair shot, right? One problem with the SATs is that some students get very anxious when preparing for or taking a test, which could make the perform worse than they otherwise might have. An article called “what is a good GPA, what is a bad GPA,” on written by Samantha Lindsay confirms that not all people are great test-takers. The article shows that the average GPA in high school is 3.5-4.0, which are A’s and B’s. However, most high schoolers only score a 1050 out of 1600 on the SATs, which is equivalent to a D on a regular test. So even though most high schoolers do good in school and seem to understand the material that they were taught, they still receive a “failing” grade on the SATs, a supposedly standardized test. Another reason why the SATs are flawed is because they don’t show how well students will perform in college. Many students in college don’t graduate within the average time despite receiving a high score on the SATs. According to an article on called “Bill Gates: US college dropout rates are ‘tragic,’” only 54.8% of students graduate within six years of attending college. So even though they had good enough SAT scores to get into college, they don’t always do too well. This just shows that the SATs and other standardized tests don’t properly measure how well you will do in college. In addition, students with money have an unfair advantage when preparing for the test. Wealthy families have access to tutors and other tools to help them succeed, while others might not. This also boosts the average scores, which could make it harder for some people to get a good enough score to get into college. As stated by an article named “What is the average SAT score” written by Allen Cheng on, kids of families with an income of less than $20,000 on average score (out of 800) a 435 in reading, 453 in math, and 426 in writing, giving them a total of 1314 out of 2400, or an F. About 124,290 high schoolers with an income of less than $20,000 take the SATs. Students with a family income of more than $200,000 score an average of 569 in reading, 586 in math, and 562 in writing, so they have a complete score of 1717 out of 2400, a C. Not only do people with more money perform better, but they also don’t have as many people taking the test. Only 87,482 kids that have a family income of more than $200,000 take the SATs. Students with less money can’t afford things like tutors to help them and perform worse, even though there are more people with a lower income taking the test. Although you could argue that standardized tests measure where a kid is at compared to other students. However, the flaw in that statement is that students will study specific topics for certain tests, so instead of measuring where a student is at academically, you are actually measuring how well she or he studied. In conclusion, SATs and other standardized tests are unfair to students who get nervous, and who have a low income. Also, they don’t measure how well a student is going to do in college, or how much they know, which could negatively impact a student’s future.

Animal Testing Should Be Illegal

By Addie Sutton How would you feel if you knew any of the 100 million animals that die every year due to animal testing? How would you feel if one of those animals could be the same animal as one of your pets? You would probably be sad, but everyone brushes off animal testing like it’s illegal, It’s not. It is a huge problem how these poor animals, that could be someone’s pet, friend, companion, or guide, die every year. Animal testing should be illegal. On August 24th, 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a new act into law. This act is called Animal Welfare Act. This is the only federal law in the United States that regulates the treatment of animals in research and exhibition. This act is supposed to help animals from cruelty, which means it is supposed to help animals that might be tested on. A site called Thought Catalog did a study and found out that 95% of animals aren’t protected under AWA. That is about 1,900,000 animals that can’t have treatment if something negative happens during testing. According to Peta, a company about veganism and animal rights, about 100 million animals die each year due to testing, this includes lab testing and beauty product testing. These animals are mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds. All of these animals can qualify as perfect pets, but instead are harmed, tortured, and killed just for a product to be put on the shelf. This makes people feel really bad and not want to buy products that are tested on animals. Next, a website about animal cruelty called Cruelty Free International wrote about the countries that use animals as test subjects. They said, “We estimate that the top 9 animal testing countries in the world are the USA, Japan, China, Australia, France, Canada, the UK, Germany and Brazil, in that order” which means that the US is the country with the most animals used for testing, and Brazil is the country with the least testing out of those nine. Animal testing is very wrong and harmful. It should be illegal. These facts all prove how terrible, gruesome, and disgusting killing innocent animals for lab research or beauty purposes. Though some people may think otherwise. These people may think you need these animals for research, and they don’t know what’s happening. But these animals are way smarter than you think; they are as smart as dogs. They know that they are being killed just for the testing to come out negative. To prove this Peta said, “These animals aren’t given any of the proper materials for being a good, lively, animal. They are confined to barren cages, socially isolated, and psychologically traumatized.” Which means they aren’t given much food, aren’t able to interact with animals of the same kind, and traumatized. Peta lastly said “some are forced to inhale toxic fumes, others are immobilized in restraint devices for hours, some have holes drilled into their skulls, and others have their skin burned off or their spinal cords crushed.” This is terrible when you can test on a skinlike substitute or a wig. This is why animal testing should be illegal. These facts prove how terrible and wrong it is. Instead of brushing it off like it’s not a big deal, you now know that it should be illegal.

Vaccinations and Vaccination Safety

By Brooks Winter Vaccinations, what a life changing creation! The thing that has helped people live longer for decades. Many parents want their child alive as long as possible and they hope they don’t have any diseases that may shorten their lifespan, however you can prevent you child from dying at an early age, it’s simple, vaccinations. Why should you get vaccinations though? Won’t vaccines cause autism? This concept of vaccines equal autism was first thought up by a man named Andrew Wakefield. He did a test that he said showed vaccines are the cause of autism. A man named Brian Deer investigated Wakefield’s claim, and he found out that Wakefield cherry-picked his data to fit his end results. So he is not a reliable source. Also, according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), there have been no confirmed cases that vaccines cause autism. They did a test in 2011 where they gave vaccinations to both children and adults, they found out that they were especially safe when mixed with a few rare exceptions. Many parents also say that the reason they don’t vaccinate their kids is for religious purposes. However, according to the Dep artment of Health, none of the major religions have specific rules against vaccinations. So these parents are outright lying so their kids can’t be vaccinated. So they not only putting their own children at risk of diseases, but other children as well. Now the big question. Are vaccines safe for people? The answer is, of course, yes. Vaccinations have been proven to have eradicated polio, diphtheria, and rubella, all disease that were very common in the United States. Sadly though, measles, a once eradicated disease, has come back into the U.S. and more than 626 cases have been identified in the country. It is thought to have comeback because of people that don’t vaccinate. Many anti-vax, facebook moms may be saying, “I don’t care! I’m not vaccinating my children! The government is lying to us!” I can guarantee that the government isn’t lying about this. They wouldn’t keep something like this from everybody. They want to keep our country, and civilians, safe. All I can say is, vaccinate your kids! They help block unwanted diseases, and are very safe for you, your kids, and everyone else around you. Also, by being immunized, you help the people and small infants that can’t be immunized for various health reasons.

Will Robots Take Over Your Job?

By David Rogers The world is using Technology more and more, Driverless cars, Artificial Intelligence ordering up our Fast Food, Drones Delivering Packages. This whole “thing” of robots and artificial intelligence gives technological advances which would lead to the next industrial revolution. Many people have fear that robots will take over their job and means of making a living. Gray Scott, futurist philosopher says,” Robots will harvest, cook, and serve our food. They will work in our factories, drive our cars, and walk our dogs. Like it or not, the age of work is coming to an end." Countries such as China and Japan have exported millions to give their companies to build full proof robots as a maids or clerks for restaurants, hotels, and even convenience stores. The jobs that include many of these types of tasks are most susceptible to automation, which means that once the technology is in place and programmed, the production process happens automatically. Robots and AI will certainly take jobs but mostly the dirty ones like coal mining. Do people really want to dig out coal in a mineshaft with the chance of black lung disease and a series of other health problems? With robots, challenges like theses can easily be taken done with, which means those who are entering the workforce today have to be adaptable. You have to be hungry and alert because you’ll never know if your jobs taken by robots, and you lose money. Today, there is a huge number of technology jobs that wasn’t made ten years ago such as, “State of-the-art programming, data science, web security, marketing and sales.” There is no reason to believe that the need for humans to create and manage new technology will decrease. From an article on it says,” Robots and AI have been created by humans – they are tools that humans can use when given the right instructions. The point is that humans and technology must work together, humans in control and the technology providing what it is programmed to provide. The idea that technology will replace the need for creative thinking, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, and initiative is rather silly right now.” Many people think that humans are unique and they can’t be replaced in jobs, but things are changing, the world is changing. Whatever the case is, stay vigilant, stay informed and stay unique. Technology will become dominant to the next revolution, and life as we know it will change once again.

Should We Have Robot Careers?

By Tylen Cunningham The world is becoming the future one step at a time, walking robots that look like us that talk like us that can interact with us; kinda scary, right!!!. We have started to evolve the technology we have by adding things that we find in the world we add, special metals, softer materials, new power sources. But what we haven't figured out is how we can make technology work for us in the house. Think of it this way if we can make robots work for us in the house you wouldn't have to put in the extra time trying to fold clothes, wash dishes, clean your room. When you think of robots what do you think of them doing? I think of it as something that can help us improve on timing. America is behind in the creation of new technology, we are always counting on china or japan to get us what we need but that needs to stop. America has invented something that would change your life forever; scientists and engineers are creating robots to replace jobs that were once done by humans. When we make these robots, they will do jobs that none has done before.Things people can’t do things that are to hard for human hands robots can do and we won’t lose anyone in the process. When you think about robots you think hard to work with but with there new joints they will be able to interact better with humans. These robots are made out of a new fiber that will allow them to bend and move like nothing you’ve seen before.By doing this they are changing the life of people around them making everyone safe and keeping them away from hazardous things. Thinking of what we can do to improve this world how about we start with the people that have been on this world for a long time that have learned everything to know. With the new robots the elderly can take a rest and relax they could get the help they need. The robots can take on the jobs the elderly had before they retired With these robots we can make this world a better place we can change what we have done wong we can save the people that we know we can save.“These robots are inherently safe due to the material properties they are made of,” says Helge Wurdemann, a roboticist at University College London.

The Problem With Animal Cruelty

By Maggie Allen Recently a coachella woman threw a bag full of 7 newborn puppies into a trash can. The woman was convicted of seven counts of animal cruelty, according to the Department of Animal Services. “Most of the time intentional harm to animals can be correlated with other crimes even against humans,” Humane Society stated. In addition, most serious animal abuse cases may indicate someone who is need of social or mental health. Also, it can be proven that those with hoarding behaviors can be imposed to neglect against animals. Not only, it’s against the law to neglect or cause harm to animals, even your own household pet. The most commonly reported animal abuse cases involve dogs, cats, horses, and livestock. More and more animal cruelty is becoming a serious problem. It is a problem in both rural and urban areas. Some people may believe that hitting an animal, or just roughly touching the animal is not animal abuse. However, when you cause the animal to lash out, bark, hiss, or just retaliate the animal obviously doesn’t like it. Accidently stepping on a animal is not animal abuse but intentionally wanting to cause harm to the animal is. Investigations have proven that animal abuse abounds in the factory farm industry. Dog fights and bird fights are big problems when it comes to animal cruelty. For instance, a California man was killed in a $10 dog fight bet. Involving animals into any problems that a person is dealing with that may cause harm to them is just cruel and wrong. People shouldn’t neglect animals because they are alive just like any other human being. Think about how you would feel if someone was causing harm to you. Not even all cases are taken care of, “Some of the most shocking cases are reported but rarely prosecuted,” according to the Humane Society. Studies have shown 71% of domestic violence victims reported their abuser for also targeting pets. Animal abuse is an actual problem believe it or not. Animals don’t deserve to be harmed against their will. Treat them how you would want to be treated.

Not All Pitbulls Are Dangerous

By Ronnda Smith What do think is the most dangerous dog? I bet you’re going to say its a pitbull, but it’s not. Truth is there is no such thing as a dangerous dog. Pitbulls get judged on how we perceive them to be. Pitbulls may come off scary, but actually are really lovable animals, they are super loyal just like any other dog. So why should we treat them differently? Pits can make really amazing pets. They mature when they are over 2 years old; and they can live up to 15 years. Let’s say you're trying to lose weight, you can by just taking a pitbull for a walk. They love taking long walk and can keep you company on the walk. When you’re sad a pitbull will come over to you and try to cheer its owner up. Pitbulls can be aggressive and dangerous but only if they are raised to be that way just like any other breed. The reason why some people buy pitbulls is manly for dog fights. So the dogs are trained to fight. Jim Gorant, who is a senior editor at sports illustrated says, “pitbulls are just dogs and if they are not raised properly, socialized and treated right, they can have behavior problems.” Pamela Reid said, “Pitbulls aren’t aggressive with people but are less tolerant of other dogs with many breeds.” So it not likely for a pitbull to attack a human unless the dog felt harmed by the human just like other breeds. Pitbulls are not the only dogs that can be aggressive if raised that way. Every dog can be highly aggressive. The only thing we humans can do is make sure to raise our dogs the right way, and show them love

Elephants Shouldn’t Be Kept In Zoos

By Jessica Sosa Elephant have been exhibited in zoos for many years to attract people and we go but not many know how bad it is for an elephant to be there. While we’re enjoying seeing them, they’re not really happy. When an elephant enters the zoo it has been robbed from many things, they’re taken away from their homes, robbed from their needs, habitat, and family and friends. Elephants are animals from the wild that need space to roam, socialize, and express their natural behavior because that’s what they do and need to be free. A zoo doesn’t meet these needs. Elephants are all day under the sun, the rain and walking in a small space with a hard concrete floor suffering, getting stressed, and their feet feel pain. This is not the environment they need, they need ponds, mud, trees, hills, and the appropriate climate. They need space to walk the 9 km they normally walk and need more company with them in their stable and not put in small groups. The average lifespan for an African bush elephant is sixty to seventy years; Asian elephants average forty eight years. When an elephant is captive in a zoo more than half of them die earlier than their average age--most don’t get to forty years. There has even been times when an elephant had stillbirths or the young elephants died really young. There’s a time when zoo’s have to release some of their animals, but they sometimes extended their time making them live there for a longer time. When elephants are released there’s another problem. Elephants may lose their natural instincts after being captive for a long time, so when they’re released they don’t know much on how to survive in the wild. Even though zoos claim they’re saving elephants by exhibiting them, they are still facing extinction and it’s not good. They have been doing programs like breeding that will supposedly help them thrive or be safe but all of their programs have failed. There’s no reason for them to be doing those programs if they’re going to fail. They don’t deserve to live like this, so it’s better for them not to live in a zoo and should live in the wild or somewhere like The Wildlife reserves in Africa that protects them and has a lot of space for them to roam, because keeping them exhibited will not help them survive.

Exotic Animals Shouldn’t Be Kept As Pets

By Michelle Nava Exotic animals are very dangerous to the individuals who own them. There have been many incident reports where exotic pets have attacked individuals and animals. Some have also escaped from where they were kept to freely roam. The U.S has documented over 2,000 attacks, incidents, and escapes involving exotic pets since 1990. Exotic animals do not make good companions. They require special care. Every year animals are captured from their natural habitats and are sold across multiple countries to be sold as pets. The exotic pet trade is a multimillion dollar industry and a $15 billion dollar business in the United States alone. These animals do not adjust well to a captive environment. These animals are sold for the purpose of becoming someone’s pet or entertaining the masses of a circus. Although some might think that keeping an exotic pet might come with a lot of fun, it comes with many more complications. Exotic animals can carry zoonotic diseases. They can be transmitted between animals and people. They often even carry parasites, that can be transmitted to humans or other pets. Most of these animals are purchased as pets but become unmanageable as they age. According to Animal Planet, most owners don’t realize the huge responsibility they are obtaining when they purchase exotic pets. When they’re being taken, poaches often kill the mother first to make it easier for them to catch the young offspring. The stress of being violently taken out their natural environment causes them to die before they reach a private property. There are many other options then exotic animals. For example dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters etc. There are less risks owning these pets. Not only that but, these animals don’t come with the diseases that exotic animals can come with. These pets can also be taken out or be touched without fearing that it will harm you.

Video Games Aren’t The Cause of Increased Violence

By Miles Robinson As school shootings have become more and more common, many people have begun asking the question, what motivates these people to do what they do? In response many people have argued that video games are to blame for causing the sharp increase in school shootings in the U.S. and around the world. Christopher Ferguson, an associate professor and co-chairman of the Department of Psychology argues that keeping young males busy with things they like, you keep them off the streets and out of trouble. Ferguson also adds that even studies that use “better methods” have typically failed to find a link between violent video games and increased aggression or violence. In addition, Whitney Decamp, an associate professor of sociology at Western Michigan University performed a study of his own and found that playing video games, no matter how bloody, did not predict violent behavior. He also found that kids who like to play violent video games may already have a predisposition to aggression. According to a study in 2016 written by three professionals on the matter, “Tracking both sales and crime rates, the authors discovered that general societal violence decreased in the weeks after the appearance of a new edition of any popular titles.” The general violence decreased for a short time after release of a popular title, although the authors have ruled out long term effects in this case. In conclusion, violent video games do not cause violence. While video games can lead to increased aggression, the Nation Center for Health Research says that other factors such as mental illness, adverse environments, and access to guns are all risk factors of aggression and violence, so not all the blame should be put on video games. Instead, parents should monitor what their child plays and pay attention to ratings put on games.

Is Gaming Good for You or Bad for You

By Alexis Cerezo A teen dies because he was playing video games for 22 days straight. He was playing a online computer game for 22 days straight and he did not go to school. His grades were bad and never care of what his parents said like get off of the computer or anything. He did not had sleep or eat and even drink. He was 17 years old and died, he was rushed to the hospital and he was dead on arrival and the doctors said it was cause from second class syndrome thrombosis. It was cause from it is because he was so tired and he never exercise and never eat or drink or even went outside. Gaming is bad for you because it can ruin your life of how much you spend time on it. Gaming is bad for your health because people will be addicted to the game and they will not do anything with their life. One reason is people won’t do exercise and if they can’t they will be overweight by gaining weight because of playing games for a long time and not stop. Next, gaming is bad because if people are playing violent games they will be aggressive to you and other people that stand in their way. Next, another reason is because kids are staying home from school to play games like fortnite and it’s hurting their grades in school. Later, another reason is that people will stay up all night and make them tired and not focused at work or in school. Later, some people can die because on sleep and not eating, you can get heart disease and heart failure and it can be very bad and you can die from it. Some people like video games because is more entertainment than other things they do. Some people think that gaming is good for you because it can help you feel better or think better. Some games can improve your hand-eye coordination, problem-solving skills. Then people will say “Gaming is bad for you” so some people think that gaming is good for you can agree with them. The reason why they might agree with them is because if they see someone die from gaming, it might make people stop gaming a lot. Then that means that gaming is really bad for you because it can kill you and or give them disease that can kill you.

Should People Buy Less Plastic?

By Kimberly Cuaya Tello Have you ever thought about how much trash is on the world? Have you ever thought about how much of that trash is plastic? Only 9% of plastic gets recycled. 79% of the world’s plastic still remains in our environment. Humans produce more than 300 million tons of plastics waste every year. That’s nearly equivalent to the weight of the entire human population! Humans need to pick up the trash on beaches! Although we don’t live near the ocean, our plastic eventually gets into the ocean. More than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped our oceans. One million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals die all the time from all the plastic that gets in the ocean. Marine animals get tangled up in plastic soda holders. Since there is also a lot of plastic bags getting into the ocean, animals suffocate on plastic bags. Microplastics are very tiny pieces of plastic that can pollute the environment and can kill marine animals. Studies found that people who regularly eat seafood absorb up to 11,000 tiny pieces of plastic (microplastics) each year. This means that you have plastic in your body! Plastic can be helpful in many ways. However, it is also very harmful. It takes up to 450-1000 years for plastic to degrade. People need to start using reusable things instead of plastic. Some things people can use are reusable bags instead of plastic bags, reusable water bottles instead of plastic bottles, glass cups instead of plastic cups. There are many reusable things humans can use instead of plastic. We need to stop using plastic!

The Problem With Wasting Food

By Aleena Butler Do you think about how many people are starving and would love to eat the food that you waste? 1.3 billion people waste food every year and 795 million people are starving all around the world, and out of that 795 million, 16 million are children. People around the world should stop wasting and start helping people who are in need of food. If people stop buying too much food then they could save more money and can donate some of that money to homeless shelters or even online websites like Feeding America. Another reason why people should stop buying so much food is because if the U.S as a whole would stop buying so much food than they could have more food to feed hungry people all around the world. If people in the U.S stop buying all that food then farmers could ship some of their crops to people and organizations in the U.S or other countries. Lauri Wright, registered dietitian and nutritionist said, “Wherever there is food, there is unfortunately food waste.” I agree with this statement because some people buy food but don’t eat it and then later go out and buy some more food and the older food goes bad before they eat it all. As a member of the U.S you could help by sending food to online websites like UPS, FedEX, Taste profit, and USDA FSIS.

Titan Is Beginning To Show Possible Signs Of Life

By Miles Robinson and Nathan Bray Titan is the 2nd largest moon in the Solar System, and Saturn’s largest moon. The Earthlike moon possibly holds some answers to how life began forming on Earth. Titan is one of the closest copies of Earth we know of, with one key difference. The seas and lakes are composed of liquid ethane and liquid methane Titan, like Earth, has rain, lakes, and oceans. The moon also has a dense atmosphere like Earth’s, being made of 98% nitrogen and 2% methane. While all the lakes and seas on Titan are made from methane, the source of it is unknown, and during the Cassini probe mission, researchers found an ice corridor that wraps around 40% of Titan. Researchers were working on a theory that the methane was coming from methane reservoirs under the surface and being vented into the atmosphere by ice volcanoes. The researchers found no ice volcanoes, but they did find an unexpected ice corridor. Caitlin Griffith, a professor at the University of Arizona Lunar and Planetary Laboratory reported, “This icy corridor is puzzling because it doesn’t correlate with any surface features nor measurements of the subsurface.” The researcher also said, “We detect this feature on steep slopes, but not on all slopes. This suggests that the icy corridor is currently eroding, potentially unveiling presence of ice and organic strata.” Scientists believe that Titan’s atmosphere may be a laboratory for studying the organic chemistry that preceded life. The surface of Titan couldn’t support life due to extremely cold temperatures and no liquid water, but researchers believe that single celled life could be supported in the ocean underneath Titan. In recent findings published in Nature Astronomy, researchers found that Titan has hundreds of these lakes of methane, some ranging over 10 miles wide and over 300 feet deep. Lead author of the research Marco Mastrogiuseppe, Cassini radar scientist at Caltech, said, “Every time we make discoveries on Titan, Titan becomes more and more mysterious.”

NASA Reveals The Only Planet We Call Home Is Being Threatened By Asteroid

By Devin Ferguson NASA is our main space program in the United States even in the world; they put a space rover on Mars, put a man on the moon, and built a international space station for astronauts to live and research space. These accomplishments are not the only thing NASA has to offer they also have a Planetary Defense Program. This program protects the only planet we call home from asteroids, comets, and meteors. April 25, 2019 was when NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine broke the news and talked about Earth’s biggest threats NEO’s (Near Earth Object). During this announcement he referenced 2013s Chelyabinsk meteor and how it injured 1,491 people Jim Bridenstine also said, “I wish I could tell you these events are exceptional. Nothing has occurred three times in the past 100 years. But they are not.” Some solutions that came up during this announcement was DART, DART is a Double Asteroid Redirection Test designed by NASA. This system includes a satellite slamming itself into a meteor this uses jet propulsion and depends on impact of the satellite. Jet propulsion is the backwards ejection of a high speed jet with gas or liquid. This DART project is meant to redirect a asteroid from Earth. This Planetary Defense Program could save lives and even Earth from extinction.

The Ancient Memories Trapped In The World’s Glacier

By David Rogers and Tylen Cunningham The ancient world has many secrets and wonderful relics of our past and many of these things are frozen in the mountains. But as global warming closes in things are gonna get interesting for Franquias Burgay a glaciologist from the Co’ Foscari University of Venice in Italy. Burgay and his peers first mission was to hike up to Illimani mountain in Bolivia They had to hike up the side of a 6,300m-high peak and take samples of the core and carry it down by foot. Most helicopters couldn’t reach that height they where on their own. They world glaciers are disappearing from under are noses and all we can do is watch. Due to human-made climate change the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on climate change estimate that we’ll lose most of the planets ice core by the end of the century. In the article on BBC Future is says, “The world’s glaciers are literally disappearing from under our feet,” says Carlo Barbante, a paleoclimatologist also at Ca’ Foscari University and one of the founders of the Ice Memory project. Once they make it back to the lab, the cores are cleaned and samples are made out of the thick ice in a nice controlled environment scientist make the samples to see if they can find metal or gases just like carbon dioxide. After cleaning the core they keep them for long term storage. “One may argue that ice cores would be safe in a commercial fridge in Venice or Paris,” Barbante says. The reason these scientist do this is to find ancient relics and The tongues of ice on the But out facing outward world’s highest mountains are melting away, but we might be able to save the precious archive of information trapped within them before global warming causes it to disappear forever.

Liquid That You Can Breathe In

By Jordan Milan and Addie Sutton A discovery made by scientists in 1883, called liquid oxygen. has been going viral recently after people realized it was used as a torture method in Russia. Liquid oxygen was discovered on April 5, 1883 by a Polish chemist at Jagiellonian University in Cracow. It is known as the only liquid you can breathe in. It hasn’t gained much popularity until now. It is made by containing oxygen, then taking the oxygen molecules out. They do this by getting the oxygen and putting it in a cryogenic air separation building. This is used to take the gas molecules out of the oxygen and make it only liquid molecules, which makes liquid oxygen. What some people don’t know is liquid oxygen has dangers. Some dangers of liquid oxygen are the exposure to the cold temperatures. When this happens, it can cause severe burns. Because this is pure oxygen, it can be deadly. Our blood has evolved to capture the oxygen we breathe in and bind it safely to the transport molecule called haemoglobin. If you breathe too much of this pure oxygen, which has a much higher O2 concentrate, the oxygen in the lungs overwhelms the blood’s ability to carry it away. Drinking this liquid oxygen is also a bad idea. Because this liquid is made from O2, a cryogenic liquid, it will freeze the tissue in your body. This liquid is so cold that it boils; its boiling point is -297 degrees. As mentioned, true liquid oxygen would likely kill you pretty quickly if you tried to drink it. There is a different type of liquid oxygen that gives you health benefit. A Youtuber with the name of Good Mythical Morning tries these liquids. The oxygen had flavors and health benefits, some of the liquid had things that helped with jet lag, fatigue, altitude sickness, headaches, hangovers, youthful skin, energy, and insomnia. Liquid oxygen flooded the internet after a Russian man came out to survive this so called “Liquid Oxygen Torture,” which is a torture method done in Russia if you commit certain crimes. He says they said they were going to pour water in a crate he was being forced into and make him drown. Instead of putting water in, they replaced it with liquid oxygen. He says after he couldn’t hold his breath any longer and started breathing, it felt like he was still alive, which he was. They then forcefully pulled him out of the water after five minutes and gave him fresh air. Because of how quickly he transitioned from liquid oxygen to real oxygen, it caused him to have many migraines and seizures before the people who tortured him mistook him as dead and left him. Some people saw him and called an ambulance, he recovered and proceeded to tell his story online.

Black Student In Cleveland, Mississippi Passed Up For Academic Honor Due To Fear Of ‘White Flight’

By Alyssa Trotter An African-American student, Olecia James has earned a higher cumulative quality point average and higher GPA than the white male salutatorian. A lawsuit against the school claims that she has been passed over because of fear of ‘white flight.’ White flight occurs when white people move out of urban areas, (usually with large minority groups), and into suburban areas. The student who won the title of salutatorian had a cumulative quality point average of 4.34, and Olecia originally had a cumulative quality point average of 4.41. However, the school officials listed her average as 4.33, making hers lower than the winning student. In a lawsuit filed against the school and multiple staff members, the James family expressed their anger about the situation, “The defendants, in light of the newly formed consolidated Cleveland Central High School and in their angst to prevent white flight, named W.M., a white male student, as salutatorian of the inaugural class of Cleveland Central High School in 2018, a position he had not earned, and in doing so, discriminated against Olecia James, a black female who had earned the position,” the lawsuit stated.

4 Year Old Boy Says He Is The Missing Boy From Illinois

Jordynn Martin n 2011, 6 year old Timmothy Pitzen’s mom came and picked him up from school. After she picked him up, she took him to the zoo then the water park. When they were done Timothy's mom took him to a hotel and stayed there, later that night she killed herself and left a note. On that note it said that her son is fine and they would never find 6 year old Timmothy. The police will not give the family anymore information except the mother is dead and the son is ne. This year on Wednesday, a boy came to the police station and said he was Timmothy. lice Sgt Aurora who worked on the case said, “We’ve probably had thousands of tips of him popping in different areas.” Bill Rowley said, “We have no idea what we’re driving down there for. It could be zen.¨ The police department is still looking into the situation. They are pulling old files and pictures, seeing he left any evidence behind of why she did what she did. The department is also looking into the boy and asking if he knows anything of where he has been or o has he been with. The family said that they have been needing a miracle and that this could be it. The family is still looking for answers and so is the department.

Se Encuentra Una Ballena Espia En Noruega By Shanelin Molina

Babies In A Massive Penguin Colony Keep On Drowning

By Jessica Sosa and Arizbeth Hernandez Rough seas have been drowning all the babies of the second largest emperor penguin colony for three winters in a row. These emperor penguins were from the Halley Bay colony that used to have 5% - 9% of the emperor penguins in the whole world. That colony had about 24,000 breeding pairs. In 2016 the ice platform they were raising their babies on collapsed during a rough weather, and the babies fell into the cold water. This same event happened again in the following years during more rough weather. This penguin colony always goes to the same site every year after their summer sea jaunt

to breed so their chicks can survive. The site they always go to breed has to be stable during the winter in the southern hemisphere which only lasts to December. Researchers have seen the penguins going near the edge even though there is rough storms, but some stay far from the edge. Mostly the ones far from the edge have their chicks safe and are most likely not getting hit by the storm. “Whether the adult birds here were failed breeders or non-breeders is difficult to assess from imagery alone,” researches wrote. Imagery is picture or visual. While this colony is dying, others are growing more and have increased their population. More penguin colonies move away from a site if it’s dangerous like the one of Halley Bay, so they’ll be able to protect their baby penguins and keep them safe. “A significant number of penguins have figured out that it’s better to move than return to the especially dangerous site,” according to Live Science.

Who’s Better: Lebron James or Michael Jordan

By Evan Ferguson The Lebron vs. Michael Jordan debate has been going on for awhile now, and there are many opinions on who is the greatest player ever in the NBA. Both players have statistics that go certain ways; they even have stats that are equal to each other, but Lebron ultimately comes out on top. Over Lebron’s 16 seasons he has scored 32,543 points while averaging 27.2 per game. This is a really big statistic that sets James and Jordan apart. James also went to the NBA Finals 7 seasons in a row, while winning 3. He went to the finals 3 years in a row while he was on the Miami Heat, and then he went to the Finals the four years he was on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lebron has a better field goal and 3 point percentage in the regular season than Michael. While Michael has one more regular season MVP award, but Lebron has won more All-NBA First Team awards. Next, Michael Jordan may have more wins in the NBA Finals, but Lebron has not had as good of teams to help him win the Finals like Jordan did. Jordan has more steals in his whole career than Lebron, but Lebron has more assist than Jordan in his whole career, and will continue to earn more as he keeps playing. Assists are more important than steals because if you make an assist that means that you are passing the ball around, and you are more of a team player. Also, Michael Jordan has a 27.9 percent player efficiency rating, which is 0.2 percent more than Lebron. This is true, but Lebron is only 34 and will probably keep player for at least another couple years. 0.2 percent will not be that much to over come in a couple years, if he keeps playing like he has been playing. There are many people that say, “Lebron hasn’t finished his career yet,” or “What if Lebron played in the 90’s.” But there are statistics that both of them have that set them apart but there are a couple that make Lebron better than Jordan, in the debate for the greatest player of all time.

Who’s Better Kobe Bryant Or Lebron James

By Marcus Wells Who do you think is better kobe bryant the man who scored 60 points his last career game or lebron who carried the Cleveland Cavaliers to the playoffs and won. Shannon Sharpe said he believes kobe bryant is a better player. Then he said “Lebron was a better all around player”.In terms of being a team player, there is no comparison between Kobe and LeBron.Lifting up one’s team is the mark of a great player. LeBron has less championships, but his name is written all over them.Although they’ve never played a single playoff game against one another, the comparison is inevitable. Both came to the NBA straight out of high school, both have been very dominant since their early years, and both made a huge impact on the league. He had a better supportive team around him, both on the court and in the coach position. LeBron james is one of the most dominant players in the NBA in his prime you use to average around 4 to 5 dunks a game.Shanna Shape said “he is a human fatetrain”. The called him this because he dunk on every on the stood in his path. to be a good offensive team obviously, but in the nerve-racking finals having a better defensive team has historically made winning the title more likely to win a championship and go home with a ring which sets a player apart from the rest. The ability to perform when it matters most against all odds which Kobe did repeatedly defines real legends. So at the end of the day Kobe Bryant who be an all around better scorer but Lebron james would be an all around better defender. Kobe is more of a dominant player but Lebron is more of a team player. So Kobe Bryant who be a better player dominates and stats wise too.

Reasons Why College Athletes Should Be Paid

By William Burnett This is why college athletes should be paid for playing the sports they play now. If colleges paid student athletes it would be fair to them and the coaches because colleges have already generated over 100 million dollars in income just from football, but if you think about it the players are the ones who have really brought in that money for the college, but out of that 100 million dollar colleges athletes don’t get paid a penny of that money. If the NCAA gets paid then the players should be paid as well, but playing college sports is like a job. The players are always working hard to make the team better and if the team is better than more people will pay to come see the games. Most college athletes especially college football players put their health at risk for their school. There health is at risk because most players don’t know how to tackle which leads to concussions or they led with their head. The colleges think athletes should not be paid, because they say a lot of players get scholarship to the college they play for. A lot of people say paying a student athletes would undermine to college recruitment and the spirit of collegiate athletics. Students would select schools based on potential salary rather than an interest in the college’s academic programs. College athletes should be paid because their school has already paid for them to get into the school why shouldn't they get a reward? They play the game to have fun but also they have to work to get to where they are so if they get paid they can make their life better. This matters to them because people want to watch the game and if college athletes protest there would be a lot of second and third starting players playing in the NCAA. Colleges say that the universities would start losing money because the games Won’t be as exciting, but if they get paid they will have more of a reason to try and put in effort in playing. They will be able to take care of their family and friends if needed.

The Life of Zlatan Ibrahimovi

By Brooks Winter Zlatan Ibrahimović was born on October 3rd, 1981 in the town of Malmö, Sweden. Landon is in eighth grade and this is his first year running. Previously, Landon did basketball, football, and golf. Mr. Cross became a track coach because he found out that running makes people better. This is his first season that he coached for track. He coaches for all long distance events which include 800m, 1600m, and 2400m. He choose these events because he did cross country. He also did high jump on the track team when he was younger. According to Mr.Cross, “If I could coach any other sport it would be basketball since I have been playing it my whole life.”

Politicians Couldn’t Help But Weigh In When ‘The Simpsons’ Mocked Upstate New York

By Maggie Allen and Kendall Adams The latest episode of ‘The Simpsons’ involves upstate New York. On last Sunday's episode, The Simpsons played a game of “I Spy” on the way to Niagara Falls. The family starts pointing out retailers in bankrupt. Lisa interrupts by saying, “How can you boo-yah this country’s decline?” Homer responds with, “We’re headed to the one place that can never decline because it was never that great…. Upstate New York!” Homer then launches into a parody of Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York”: “Start watching Fox News/ Stop watching your weight, There is no fancy part of it/ Upstate New York, They’re fond of their booze/ Hot wing sauce is great, I’m gonna clog my heart in it/ Upstate New York, I want to sleep in, in a city that never wakes And find I’m fitting right in, one of the gang, par for the course. The Kodak plant’s closed, but I’m a longin’ to stay, And go on disability in upstate New York. Can’t make it anywhere but I can make it there, I love you so, upstate New York.” The scene wraps up with the city of Buffalo blanketed in snow, while Homer shouts “Benedict Arnold fought here, baby!” Not long after, politicians started taking jabs. GOP of New York pointed the finger at Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Twitter. The New York GOP wrote, “Under three terms of @AndrewCuomo, New York is a laughing stock for his failed policies. Cuomo lies and lies but even the Simpsons know the truth.” Senior adviser for Cuomo, Rich Azzopardi, responded to a story about the episode on Twitter with a some choice “Simpsons” references. “There always remains work to be done but --- dumb cheap shots aside --- facts are facts: jobs are up, unemployment is down, millennials are coming back and it’s clear that Poochie was an uncredited writer on that episode,” Azzopard., stated.

Why Are We So Obsessed With Celebrities

By Alayziah Owens Humans are social creatures, psychologists say, and we evolve and still live in an environment where we pay attention to the people at the top. It is only relatively recently in human history that people have had constant access to celebrity news and gossip. According to James Houran, a psychologist, “In this society celebrities are like a drug”. Celebrities give interviews, share juicy information about their personal lives, and even engage directly with fans on sites such as Twitter. The word itself makes you think of flashing cameras, expensive jewelry and more money than anyone could ever actually need. It’s addicting to feel that boost in confidence or pat on the back that comes from watching the lifestyles of celebrities, which can make us check in on them even more often. Celebs show us that we too can change our lives and live our dreams. If they can do it, so can we. They make us feel better because they’re ordinary people, come with many different personalities and lifestyles. Some are laidback and quiet, while others are loud and in your face with their strange things. We get obsessed with celebrities or artists because they chased their dream and want to encourage us to do the same and never give up. When we need a little push to chase our dreams, or a reason to keep fighting, celebrities can inspire it in us.

16 and Pregnant: Does It Prevent or Promote Teen Pregnancy?

By Nia Mitchell “Does 16 and Pregnant Prevent or Promote Teen Pregnancy?” This is one of the most asked questions lately. People have been trying to do some investigating but they are not quite sure. From the evidence, it seems like a 50/50 shot. “16 and Pregnant” was originally designed by MTV to show viewers what being a teenage mom is really like. “Rates dropped 9% from 2009 to 2010 alone by itself!” stated TIME Magazine. The show, “16 and Pregnant”, has been running since 2009 and the rates still continues to drop! The show is definitely responsible for these rates. This show shows the struggle of being a teen mom. The struggle with school, with the child’s father, arguments with their parents, money situations, and exhaustion. MTV doesn’t just air “16 and Pregnant”, it also promotes a website that is called StayTeen. org that encourages teens to enjoy their years as teens and try to help them avoid becoming a parent so early. The website also has information that they provided about dating abuse, birth control, and STDs. Since the show has been a hit and a trending show, others worry that the show “glamorizes” or greatly shows teen pregnancy. Some of the teen mothers are celebrities from the show, but it still shows the problems that they go through even now. “Only 40 percent of teenage mothers ever graduate high school, so what does MTV do? They show how cool teen pregnancy is” one review of the show by the Media Research Center reads. The New York Post pointed out that in 2011, that 3 of Teen Mom 2 star Janelle Evans’ friends got pregnant within a year of her starring the show. Being a teenage mother is really hard. In addition, all of the “16 and Pregnant” moms are not celebrities or rich. They only chose a few moms to continue the show that is called “Teen Mom”, “Teen Mom 2”, and “Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant”. So, not all moms become rich and famous after being on the show. Therefore, the show doesn’t “glamorize” teen pregnancy, it prevents teen pregnancy!

Activities To Do Over The Summer

By Karrington Shelton So everyone knows that school is about to be out for summer break. Most of us plan on doing so much with family and friends during the summer, but most of the time all of those plans might not follow through all the time. So if and when they don't; here are a list of activities to do alone or in your free time over the summer. Play card games- (Checkers, UNO, etc‌) Try a new hobby- so when school starts back up can already have practiced for what you want to do. Try singing or playing a new instrument Take up swimming- then it's already gonna be hot, so it’ll work out Try getting a summer job- Sometimes you have to be a certain age to actually start your first job, but you can start by mowing grass or cleaning the public pool for extra change. Go to the library- research what you want to do in life before you just start it and then not be interested in it. Learn fun facts about you family or make a family tree, and then it might be cool to know where your family originally started. Make day-to-day vlog or videos to look back on and/or post on social media Maybe go to your local beach- the beach is sometimes relaxing and can be a great stress reliever, but you can use it in anyway you need to. Listen to music- study music or listen to new genres of music just to expand your interests a little bit. *maybe you can listen to music while at the beach That was just a little list on what you could do for example. If none of these interest you then click here and look at this website for some more ideas , but until you do Happy *almost* Summer Break!
