The Border Ballads were made and sung as a celebration of local history and tradition while Shakespeare was writing his history plays. Yet they were born in a world far removed from the Golden Age of Elizabethan England. These were tales told in verse of battle and blade, foray and feud, raid and revenge in the days when Reivers rode the Borderlands from the Solway to the Tyne. * You may illustrate your Set Pieces of handwriting or add a border, but only the writing will be judged.
