THE FRIENDLY CITY
Belleville is full of unique natural features that can be enjoyed along our beautiful waterfront trail – and you can see it all by bike! There are a broad range of cycling options here for both the recreational user and experienced cyclist. Journey on one of the City’s new urban or rural cycle routes, and along the way plan to stop by our bicycle friendly businesses to ensure you have everything you need to make your ride a success. Doug’s Bicycle has been serving cyclists in Belleville for over 35 years, and has truly embraced the role of a local, community bike store. Headed downtown? Stephen Licence Bicycles and Hobbies has been a staple in the downtown for 100 years. Not ready to quit cycling for the season? Winter cycling enthusiasts are encouraged to check out Fat Bikes at Ideal Bike, great for riding on soft unstable terrain including snow! And if you’re looking for a break and a bite, don’t miss The Brake Room bike café. They serve stuff that is good for you, and repair and sell bikes too!
Belleville has committed to developing a full cycling network by approving over $9 million in cycling infrastructure and improvements. The Belleville Cycling Network has been developed based on community input on what cycling projects were priorities. Over the past two years the City of Belleville has opened our first on-street bicycle lanes, constructed a new path along a major arterial road, paved and lit existing paths, begun construction on the first phase of an active transportation path connecting Loyalist College to Downtown Belleville and completed design work for a new footbridge that will accommodate cyclists into our newly revitalized Downtown. As a result of these efforts, the City of Belleville was awarded with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community Award in 2017. BELLEVILLE.CA
