Grey Tigers Baseball

Tigers Start Season 2-1 by Zip Zellmann The Belle Plaine Grey Tigers (age 35 and over) baseball team opened the season with a 6-3 loss to Northfield. Starting on the hill was Terry Knop just as he did 30 years ago with the amateur Tigers. The Tigers should have brought an ark from Belle Plaine has they arrived with 2 inches of rain on the field but found a way to play. The defense looked a little rusty from being waterlogged from the rain kicking the ball around 5 times. They scored one run in the second on a single by Eric Burgemeister, followed by a stolen base and RBI by Jeff Fahey. The only other two runs the Tigers could muster was a single by Knop that drove in two in the final inning. The Tigers only connected with five hits for the game. Rookie Dave Kreft did break out with his first Grey Tiger hit of the year with a ringing double. Tigers 14, St. Peter 4 The Tigers found their rhythm against the St. Peter Saints, trouncing them 14-4 in six innings. On hill for the second time was Knop, who would dominate the Saints lineup, scattering five hits and striking out six. The Tigers started off the first inning batting around and scoring six, led by a two RBI double by Knop. The Grey’s followed with two in the fourth on single by Rookie Mike Weller driving in two. The Tigers plated four more in the fifth to solidify the deal with Phil Wulf driving in

a pair. The Greys finished with two more runs to finish the game by the 10-run rule with a single by Jeff Fahey. Tigers 11, Jordan Ahlers 1 Tigers returned to their hitting ways with an 11-1 win in five innings. Climbing the hill for the Grey was rookie ace Brett Kruschke. He made it look easy as he carried a no-hitter into the fifth. Greek Wagner carried the load, starting at first and going two for two and “stretching” a single into a double. The Tigers scored five runs in the second on Burgemeister’s line-drive double to clear the bases. Tigers finished with three more in the third and two in the fourth to seal the deal. Greek and Kruschke scored on all three of their at-bats, making it look like a track meet. The Grey Tigers had their game against Minneapolis rained out on Sunday and rescheduled for June 20. Fastpitch Softball Camps Belle Plaine Tigers fastpitch softball camps will take place June 24-28. The camps are designed to help girls at all skill levels develop their skills to a more competitive level. There will be three camps offered addressing all different aspects of the game. Girls are encouraged to attend as many camps as possible. Pitchers and Catchers Camp The pitchers and catchers camp will take place from 89 a.m. each day. It will focus on developing basic pitching and catching skills for girls in grades 4-9. Anyone who is interested in pitching or catching is encouraged to come and learn the fundamentals of these positions. Offensive and Defensive Camp The offensive and defensive camp will be held from 9:1510:30 a.m. for girls in grades 412. It will review all offensive

and defensive fundamentals and teach participants how to be a threat at the plate and show them how to become a solid defensive player as well. Girls will be divided by age level. Varsity players will be on hand to help younger girls develop the skills needed to be a great, well-rounded softball player. Softball Survivor Camp This camp will be held from 10:45 a.m. to noon for girls in grades 6-12. If you are looking for a great time, along with some of the most challenging workouts, then this is for you. The survivor camp will focus on developing a well-rounded athlete. We will work hard on developing strength and stamina, all while having a good time. The cost of each camp is $30, which also includes a T-shirt. Registrations are due this week.
