hether you grew up watching actor James Brolin on screen or recently discovered this Hollywood legend’s talents, you might be surprised to learn he never intended to spend the majority of his life on camera. The thought of getting up in front of a room full of people scared him, and his interests in filmmaking were behind the camera, not in front of it. “In school, I tried to give a book report but sat down shaking and embarrassed,” says Brolin. “I was even in my high school play but I left right before it started because I just couldn’t get up there on stage.” Thankfully, his first role didn’t require any speaking, and Brolin’s ultimate goal of directing was the incentive he needed to go for it. Two years and a few commercials under his belt later, the future star signed a contract with Fox. The rest, as they say, is history. Brolin went on to capture fans with hit shows like, “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” “Hotel,” and “Pensacola,” and become a household name. These days, he’s back on network TV on the hit show, “Life in Pieces.” As an actor and director, Brolin is no stranger to pulling double duty, nor does he show any signs of slowing down. In fact, he says he feels like his career is just getting started.

BELLA sat down with the handsome and ever-so-charming icon to talk about his work, family, and the secret behind his successful marriage to Barbra Streisand.
