Texts and Translations Hearth and Song (written for BCCV’s 10th Anniversary by former member Joseph Carey) Oh have you known the hearth and song? The hearth that warms you, safe and strong The song you’ve felt your whole life long: Known these and known that you belong? The hearth is a home, the hearth is a bed It’s a tent or a train; it’s a bridge or a shed; The hearth is wherever spirits are fed; The hearth is a friend with their arms outspread.

The song’s in the air, the song’s in your chest; It calls to the poor and the oppressed; It calls you to march and to protest; It calls you to work, and to your rest. You can sit at the hearth: here’s a place by the fire. You can join in the song, there is room in the choir. You don’t have to be wise, you don’t have to be tough, You belong here with us: as you are, you’re enough.

Sicut locutus est (From Magnificat - The Canticle of Mary) Sicut locutus est ad patres nostros, Abraham et semini eius in saecula.

As was spoken to our fathers, To Abraham and his seed forever.

Lebenslust Wer Lebenslust fühlert, der bleibt nicht allein, allein sein ist öde, wer kann sich da freu’n? Im traulichen Kreise, beim herzlichen Kuss, beisammen zu leben ist Seelengenuss!

Those who experience life’s joy do not remain alone. To be alone is so dull; who can possibly enjoy that? In an intimate circle of friends, with a heart-felt kiss, to live together is the soul’s delight!
