Looking for a great pub - restaurant that cooks delicious food at great prices? Try The Earl of Chesterfield Arms at Shelford, Nottingham. by Christine Gough Grapevine Editor

The pub and restaurant is owned by new owners Julian Benton, Lisa Miller (from The Staunton Arms) and exEngland cricketer Chris Broad with their fantastic team to look after you at this first-class Nottinghamshire country pub. Both my husband and I decided to go for a run out to Shelford, a picturesque rural village near Radcliffe on Trent and Gunthorpe, not too far away, about half an hour from Sandiacre. We visited The Earl of Chesterfield, a cosy pub with a restaurant serving a great selection of homecooked food including Sunday lunch. I would certainly recommend a trip there, the food was superb, and we will visit again. Our table was in the olde worlde restaurant part of the pub, next to a huge open fire , I noticed that instead of being cramped at the table, (having to move your chair every time someone wanted to walk past), that there was plenty of space between us and the next table. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent, efficient and relaxed. I did notice that when one of the tables had been vacated, a member of staff came along to clean, not with a spray bottle (which usually leaves the sticky residue on the table, accompained with a cloth

that had seen better days and used on every table), but with a bucket of clean hot soapy water, clean sponge and roll of paper towel to dry the table, with not one dirty cloth in sight ! We didn’t have to wait long to be served and our choice was a three course meal off the Sunday Menu for £18.50 each. I chose Starter: Traditional prawn cocktail, Marie Rose sauce & fresh granary bread. Main: Roast Beef with Yorkshire pudding with all the trimmings. Dessert: Strawberry cheesecake, kiwi coulis & granola crumb. My husband chose, Starter: Crispy fried ham hock & chicken terrine, onion puree, sweet potato crisps. Main: Pan seared Seabass, Parmentier Potatoes, Bacon & Pea fricassee. Dessert: Fig & blood orange sponge, crème anglaise. The roast beef I had was delicious , thick sliced and tender, the gravy was literally the best I’ve had in any restaurant. All the food we had was first class.
