WHAT WILL YOU STUDY?
This study programme will introduce you to the technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry, including the diagnosis of non-complex system faults. You will gain the essential knowledge required for work as a service technician working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. You will study a range of topics, including routine vehicle maintenance, removing and replacing engine units and more.
Offered through the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), this study programme is a continuation from the Motor Vehicle Maintenance IMI Level 2 Diploma. The programme will build on your existing knowledge and develop your skills in advanced diagnostic and rectification techniques related to the mechanical and electrical systems of the vehicle.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO START?
Duration: 1 year • IMI Transport Maintenance Level 1 Diploma with Functional Skills/GCSE at the appropriate level Duration: 2 years • 3 GCSEs grades A*-G or 9-1 ideally including English and maths and a keen interest in vehicles WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL YOU GAIN? • IMI Transport Maintenance Level 1 Diploma (2 years) • IMI Accident Repair Level 1 Certificate (2 years) • I MI Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Level 2 Diploma (1 year) AND • GCSE/Functional Skills in English and maths if required (all years) YOUR FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES: You can progress on to our Motor Vehicle Advanced Level 3 Maintenance study programme (see next entry), on to an apprenticeship or into employment. 126 | Full-time Study Programme Guide
