WELCOME TO “Caxton Meadow” THE HOME OF BECCLES CAXTON FC Beccles Caxton v Brandon Town Anglian Combination - Division 3 Saturday, 12th September 2015 Good afternoon everyone and welcome to “Caxton Meadow”. We extend a warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters of Brandon Town and Match Official Ben Green. We hope that you enjoy your short stay with us and have a safe journey home. Last weekend, we travelled to Mattishall and, although we could blame a kick-off time of 4:00pm which gave us selection problems, for a poor result, we won’t as Manager Lee Hackleton has held his hands up to a poor goal-keeping display.

The reserves who travel to ElectroTech today, kicked off their Lowestoft & District League campaign at Crusaders FC last week and lost 1-4. The 1st XI are back here next week, in a 2:00pm start, against Swaffham Town Reserves in the Cyrill Ballyn Cup. The following week it is a 2:15pm kick-off when, on Saturday 3rd October, we entertain Oulton Broard in the Suffolk Junior Cup.

was shocking and I personally have to take the blame on my shoulders alone. The players should shoulder no blame at all.. The lads did enough to get something out of the game and I clearly let them down... Although we haven't been getting the results, we certainly haven't played bad in every game. We have played some good football for long parts of the game and have dominated many. Firstly I'd like to welcome Brandon Town to “Caxton Meadow” as well as today's match official Ben Green, I hope you have an enjoyable stay and a safe journey home. Firstly, I'd like to apologise to all involved with the club… After having so many goalkeeper injuries last week I decided to don the jersey and I had a complete nightmare, the result © Beccles Caxton FC

However, we do need to be more ruthless in front of goal and hold onto the ball better but we certainly do have the pedigree in the squad to go on and do something in this league.. I hope everybody has an enjoyable stay and hopefully catch you in the club after the game... Lee Page 4

Norfolk Junior Cup

Action from last season’s final which saw Castle Acre Swifts edge past Sprowston Athletic 7-6 on penalties. (1-1 AET).

Today will see the beginning of the Junior Cup First Round; where the second oldest County Cup competition in Norfolk will host a total of 44 fixtures as teams go head to head in the hope of reaching the Final. Of the 44 fixtures, stand out clashes include last season’s runners up Sprowston Athletic who take on Thurlow Nunn Reserves League Premier Division side Gorleston, and also reigning Champions Castle Acre Swifts who come up against Anglian Combination Division 5 North side Plumstead Rangers, who have won all four of their opening league fixtures, including an

impressive 15-1 win away at Costessey Sports Reserves. Also a notable fixture is Catfield who make the trip to Easton, as Catfield have experienced plenty of Junior Cup success in recent history. They reached the Semi-Final last season and lifted the trophy the season before; meaning that they will certainly be looking to clinching back the Cup once again. For more information surrounding Norfolk County Cups, please contact Football Administration Department on 01603 704050 or email countycups@NorfolkFA.com.

Today’s Opponents : Brandon Town

A brief history of the Norfolk Junior Cup... The Norfolk Junior Cup is the second oldest County Cup that Norfolk FA run, having been established in 1889-90 when Wymondham 2nd XI beat Rudham 2-1. That Wymondham side features prominently in the early years, winning the trophy in four of the first seven seasons, culminating with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over North Yarmouth in 1896-97. Over the years the trophy has been lifted by an enormous number of different Clubs, many of whom are sadly no longer in existence, including some wonderfully named sides such as Blue Crusaders, Yare Barrell Factory, Esdelle Works, Norwich Teachers and West Norfolk Fertilisers! The cup has also been won by sides who have subsequently moved into senior football, such as Gorleston, Fakenham and Wroxham. The Norfolk Junior Cup is often one of the most keenly contested finals and this was never more true than in 1996-97 when Aylsham Wanderers scored five times, only to lose to Wells Town who went one better, scoring six! All three of the most recent finals have been similarly tight, albeit with less goals being scored. Norwich St Johns needed penalties to beat King’s Lynn A in 2008-09 after a 1-1 draw, whilst West Lynn Sports & Social Club beat Foulsham 2-1 the following year. The 2010-11 final was a great match between UEA and Reffley Royals, with the students just edging things by a score of 2-1. On leaving the stadium that night Reffley vowed to be back and they were true to their word, becoming the first side to reach back to back finals since Gayton were beaten in 2002-03 and again in 2003-04. Reffley went on to claim the trophy for 2011-12, defeating Harleston 2-1. Catfield overcame Mundford with a 4-1 victory to win the cup for the 2012-13 season and then achieved the impressive feat of retaining the trophy in 2013-14 as they beat Scole United 4-2 at Carrow Road. Last season saw a team from the Central & South Norfolk League lift the cup for the first time as Castle Acre Swifts edged past Sprowston Athletic 7-6 on penalties after the match ended 1-1. Page 9
