Dolce Vita Homes is the largest EnergyStar ® builder in the Greater Edmonton Area. To meet that standard, each home must be at least 20% more energy efficient than a home built to code.
• The entrance to Greenbury is marked by three Windspires ® , residential-sized wind turbines that feed the grid and produce energy for Fortis Alberta.
• Expanded bioswales spanning over 15m wide with a series of perforated pipes irrigate trees and shrubs with rainwater.
• The stormwater retention facility is a constructed wetland habitat to a number of waterfowl and local flora and fauna.
• A construction waste management and recycling program has been implemented.
• Wind and solar powered hybrid lighting illuminates the Sustainability Plaza gathering space. The children’s playground area includes solar panels on the roof that power lights in the play structure.
• Community gardens encourage social interaction and community building, food sustainability, and local food production. A custom designed rainwater collector in the shape of a giant watering can is located near the community gardens to provide a water source.
• The plaza design incorporates native plants, encouraging use of local materials that are hardy and more tolerant through Edmonton’s harsh winter conditions.
