Medical Marijuana: Still a Taboo? Though the legalization of cannabis still seems to be still up for debate on the recent U.S. decriminalization debate... Many recent discoveries have been mounting up that continue to show increasingly the many benefits for the medical use of cannabis to treat literally dozens of illness across both the physical and mental spectrum of human conditions. This should not be any surprise, as cannabiods are a chemical that already exist in the human body to regulate almost every function within the human body. In fact the same chemicals that are found in marijuana can be also found in human breast milk. Recently, several stories have surfaced of people curing diseases and ailments using cannabis. - Young couple help cure very young child of brain tumor using cannabis oil with amaizing results in 2012. - Discoveries that cannabis use prevents diabetes and contributes to weight loss. - Man uses cannabis oil to cure father of cancer, starts treating Canadian seniors with treatment and opens clinic. More and more canniboids are revealing more about how the body regulates itself and how cannibiods contribute to that process. Increasingly that consumption of refined oil rather than the inhalation of smoke, is providing the most beneficial merits of this natural medicine. Once the stigma around this plant has changed our world will be open to this new area of truly god-given medicine.

Earthship: Building from Garbage by: B.duQuensay

Earthship biotecture is what I can only describe as low-end technology using hi-end innovation. These structures use a series of ecological sound practices to develop and build in a way that is more in tune with where society should be headed in terms of environmental practices. I am not trying to over shine this story, but I feel that this incredible sound building project has an enormous potential for good in the world and Mr. Reynolds has over the years taken students and volunteer and build self sustaining houses for more unfortunate peoples around the world such as Haiti, India and now started in Africa. Money received from students and volunteers to learn how to build Earthships are used to fund the charity projects. In our world today of so much corporate greed, waste and environmental abuse, it is the preverbal “breathe of fresh air” to see a business model taking hold across the globe as it has recently. The demand for Canadians to own Earthships have also increased with Earthships in BC, Ontario, and Quebec. With the release of several documentaries such as “Garbage 6

Earthships: Tires, Bottles and Mud Eco-Homes. Warrior”, many more people interested in living with a low carbon footprint and living more sustainable are taking up shovels, bottles, mud and tires and building off the grid paradises that with the planet instead of against it. If you found the Earthship lifestyle interesting or needed more information, you can always join the website to join their online community to volunteer or chat other members in your are. It’s also a great way to find volunteers to help you build your own. Pretty much all the resource you will need you can find online, we have also added “Garbage Warrior” and other information related to Earthship Biotecture and added related information and links in our website’s new “wiki” section recently added to the BOOYA website.

Truly these Earthships seem so retro in their technology, but so futuristic in how they regulate heat, use solar energy, collect and filter water to be reused up to four times where as the remaining “black water” is automatically drained and used to cultivate it’s own food and/or greenhouse. This is often what’s called “living off the grid”. Started some 40 years ago, the need and demand for sustainable living is ever increasing. This ingenious idea of self sustainable housing that reclaims used materials, utilizes thermal energy and solar power, makes this building concept worthy of a Noble Peace Prize. When you ask yourself, “how many businesses are actually truly green and are giving back to the ever diminishing world of ours, I am sure that you will agree with me..Earthships can help save our planet.

Global Revolution Against GMO’s by: B.duQuensay

On May 25th, 2013 millions of people like you and me, whom are concerned about the genetic modification of our food supply, will take the streets in a global protest against the bio-engineering company Monsanto. If you are unfamiliar with genetically modified foods, you are not alone. Commonly know as “GMO’s”, these crops are manipulated in laboratories by the Monsanto corporation, creating food that is patented and owned by the Monsanto corp. Several scientist such as David Suzuki have spoken out against the safety of these genetically modified foods. Many people may be feeding their children baby food that contains “GMO’s” as there is little in the way of labeling to determine which foods are and are not genetically modified. Monsanto has been the creator of such contiversal products such as the infamous “Agent Orange” defoliation agent and the “Bovine Growth Hormone”. Both products faced much public opposition, much like the “GMO’s” are today. The public has been calling for labeling of genetically modified food for some time with rather unsuccessful results. But, recently Monsanto attempted to secretly pass a controversial law that makes this company exempt from legal and financial responsibility for any damages it may cause it’s consumers. Some researchers have said that in laboratory tests, lab mice grew tumors and lost the ability to sexually reproduce after three

generations. With little in the way of human testing or of any opposing evidence that these products are safe, many are supporting the movement for safer food supply and the labeling of what is now determined as genetically modified. If you watch documentaries you may already know that GMO’s are one of the most documented issues today. Several of these documentaries make light of the frontline issues that are affecting India and it’s cotton farming industry where animals and people are said to be suffering both death and illnesses related to the genetically altered crops. In addition farmers have been committing suicide to avoid the large debts that they had incurred while under contract of farming the Monsanto GMO crops. In fact, it has been farmers that first alerted the public and sought to defend their livelihoods by taking the

mega-corporation to courts. This legal battle was made most popular by the 75 year old soybean farmers battle against Monsanto in the US Supreme Courts. Originally, plants were sprayed with petroleum based insect repellents. Eventually insects had developed resistance to these chemicals and new techniques to combat this problem. Some have said that the declining bee problem was in part due to GMO crops. Furthermore, insects have already begun to become immune to the new pesticides and GMO crops. Marchers will voice their opinion against GMO’s on May 25th, 2013 and speak out against what many consider as a direct threat to nature and life itself. Countries such as New Zealand, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Greece and Luxembourg have already taken action to ban GMO’s. Will Canada make the same choice? We will be covering the march as it happens and posting it to our website for you to view the event for yourself.

Health and Wellness: Detox Tips B.duQuesnay

Today it’s hard to keep in touch with one’s health and wellness with the increasing amounts of exposure to pollutants, chemicals and mostly, bad health choices. This is a little segment that has been put together to help anyone looking to make better health choices in their everyday lives. Sometimes we take for granted our health, in many cases some prevention and positive health practices can lead to segnifficant gains in our overall wellness. Our ever busy lives force us to take many shortcuts that are potentially affecting our

health. These tips are offered to you to help you protect against some of the things we take for granted that may be affecting your health.... 1 - Microwaves Foods lose nurients and dangerous microwaves can create toxins in food. 2 - Plastics BPH’s and other chemicals are often released into foods, expecially when these containers are heated or frozen. 3 - Washing Foods Many toxins from insect repellents are left absorbing into the skins of fruits and vegetables. Soaking foods in baking

soda or borax help remove toxins. 4 - Avoid GMO’s Increasing data shows that GMO’s lead to illness and organic foods are important for health. 5 - Grow food at home. Avoid grocery bills, GMO’s while helping to clean the air in your home. Start with herbs. 6 - Boil and filter water. The best way to filter water is by boiling it, cooling it and filtering after. 7 - Use natural products. Not only environmentally friendlier but healthier and safer to your overall health and well-being.

Dr. S.Krishan: Spring Spree When the winter is here, can spring be far away? No doubt, spring is in the air! And all through the year we all patiently wait for this ‘King of seasons’. Here are some suggestions for you to make the most of this season in terms of health and vitality. Are you ready for the Seasonal Makeover? Changing seasons bring with them a number of seasonal allergies mostly in the form of throat infections. During this seasonal transition, respiratory ailments like common cold, sore throat, and recurrent bouts of cough, pain and inflammation in the throat and asthmatic attacks are common. • Start immediately with saline water gargles at the slightest perception of throat irritation. • Gargles with alum mixed in water acts as an antiseptic for the throat. • As an easy home cure, take freshly ground leaves of Holy Basil along with a few drops of ginger juice. This helps to increase the resistance power to fight respiratory ailments. • A powder prepared by pounding roots of the herb Liquorice (aprox. one fourth of a teaspoon) can be taken two to three times mixed into a teaspoon of honey. • A decoction prepared with boiling black pepper, thyme, liquorice root, cardamom seeds, basil and ginger may be taken warm. • Steam inhalation is supportive to the recommended therapy as this result into a better expectoration.

Ayurveda recommendation for Spring Season According to the ancient therapeutic science of Ayurveda, it is believed that during the winters there is natural accumulation of Kapha or the phlegm humor in the body owing to the external cold environment and intake of heavy diet. And in spring, as the sunrays start to get intense, this phlegm tends to get aggravated and nullifies the gastric fire that further results in production of disease. This may result into ailments like respiratory troubles, loss of hunger, joint pains and stiffness, feeling of nausea or vomiting, occasional indigestion and general weakness or lethargy. Some do’s for spring Season • So as to mitigate the effect of increased phlegm in the body system, preferably feast more on the tastes that have a converse effect to that of the Kapha dosha. The recommended tastes are bitter, pungent and astringent. • Instead of heavy diet plan that was suggested in the winters, now come down to a lighter and fairly bland diet regimen. • You need to include a glass of luke warm water with a teaspoon of honey mixed into it in your early morning drinks. Honey has a significant effect in decreasing the aggravated phlegm in your system. • Also, I would recommend taking two or three bulbs of garlic empty stomach in

the morning, or some dried ginger powder with honey or making a decoction of the same. • Daily activities like dry massage, exercise, yoga asanas and pranayaam (deep breathing exercises) could be of great benefit. • Ayurveda also suggests use of herbs that have a strong and intense nature to be included in diet as well as in activities like gargles, nasal inhalers, vomit inductors etc. This would aid in better extraction and elimination of the accumulated Kapha. Some don’ts for Spring Season • Foods that are heavy and oily by nature and are generally sweet, salty and sour in taste need to be discouraged in everyday diet in this particular season. • Cold drinks and cold foods are also to be avoided. • Even though a feeling of lethargy is there, try not to become sedentary. • Afternoon naps are also a no-no for the spring season as this is another culprit for increasing the Kapha or the phlegm humor.
