The owner of the salon Vince Smith explains that he cares for performance in the products he purchases for his salon. Vince Smith loves to teach as well, he trains carefully selected new beauty school graduates in the salon. As Beauty Turkey, we made an interview with Vince Smith. What do you care most when choosing products for your salon? When choosing products for my salon, I care most about several key things. First, performance! It has to work! After that, I look for the quality of the ingredients, the concentration of active ingredients and how naturally derived or organic are the ingredients. Price is not as much of a consideration as is value. And finally, but not least important is the fragrance. Everyone wants their hair to smell great, no? Do your customers ask for any special brands? There are a few brands that customers walk in to look for. One that is popular now, that people “in the know” are asking for is Oribe. I plan on adding this product line soon.

We do have an international clientele and one thing all our bride clients have in common is that they want exactly what they want. We do everything we can to make the bride feel extremely special. And we guide each one how to look their absolute best, based on the theme, style and location of the wedding. Do you consider opening new branch offices outside New York or the U.S.A? I would love to expand and have a larger salon and spa in NYC. But right now, I have no plans to have a second location. Could you please talk about your customer profile? In what sense do the fluctuations in the economy affect your customers? How often do your customers pay you visits? Vince Smith Hair Experience clientele is made up of urban professionals. Since bride make-up is different from the regular customers and needs a different approach and an effort; do you use special products when preparing the bride for the wedding? Yes. Bridal makeup is different. It needs to be perfect for the camera, which usually requires more makeup than you would normally wear for an event. But the bride is also going to get up-close and personal with each of her guests, when they kiss her to say hello and congratulations. So it has to be very natural looking as well as very detailed and flawless for the camera. I like to use Temptu S/B airbrush foundation because you can give the skin a flawless finish, yet it is almost undetectable. It also stands up to almost any weather condition - hot, dry or humid. And since it is perspiration and humidity resistant, it’s great even for a beach wedding. There are people from various cultures in the U.S.A. Within this concept, do any of your bride customers ask for different services? Could you please give an example? There are more similarities than differences. It’s great to learn about wedding customs from all different countries, Italy, Russia, India, Colombia, SA. So the differences are minor and usually based on custom.
