There is so much meaning in being inspired by those who have traveled the journey in which you are also on, both in your pregnancy, and birth, and the new family you and your partner create together. While you may draw inspiration and encouragement from mothers who’ve come before you, know that no journey of motherhood is perfect, and that is okay. It is finding the purposeful moments in motherhood and tucking them away as cherished memories.

T

FROM THE EDITOR here is a special kind of sweetness in being a part of creation. In bringing new life into the world and wrapping that new little one in love but many times when all the sweet

moments of newborn days turn into sleepless nights and uncomfort, we find that we question ourselves and compare ourselves to others. Are we a good mom? Why is she better? Why did she loose all her baby weight so quick? but the truth is, that we are the perfect parent for our baby. We are prepared with exactly what our newborn needs. If only we would give ourselves more grace and stop comparing ourselves to perfect. We are all imperfect mothers but if we strive to parent with purpose, not perfection; everything works out as it should and we can live with joy in our lives! Our goal in the community of mothers is to support each other on the road of parenting, even if we choose to parent in different ways, we can still cheer eachother on in a sense of community over comparision.

EDITOR’S BIRTH BAG PICKS Loose all those excessive checklists, this it the only one you’ll need. It is mommy approved and verified. You will want to pick out two chic bags (one for you, one for baby) and have them packed and ready to go at 35 weeks. Savvy Tip: Ask your hospital or bith center what they provide for babies and mothers, take those items off your list.

FOR MOM • Folder with insurance information, copies of ID, and birth plan • 2-3 pairs of warm, non skid socks that can be thrown away afterward (for walking the halls before and after labor) • Warm robe or comfy sweater you don’t mind getting messy • 2 nursing bras (no underwire) and nursing pads (whether or not you plan to nurse, you’ll be happy for the support and leak-protection) • Open front nightgowns (for skin to skin with baby and nursing) • Maternity or comfy stretchable underpants • Lip Balm (hospitals are super dry) • Beauty items and travel size toiletries- hairbrush, toothbrush, deodorant, face wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, contact lens case and solution, etc. • Eyeglasses if you wear them • Headband and hair ties • Lots of change for the vending machine and snacks (you will probably be hungry after labor, and the cafeteria and near restaurants may be closed depending on the hour) • Notepad and Pen • Cell phone and charger, with list of phone numbers to call after birth • Don’t forget your partner, a gym bag of extra clothes and basic toiletries for him • Camera, video recorder and chargers or extra batteries FOR BABY • Approved car seat • Coming-home outfit • Warm blankets • Pacifiers (if you plan to use them) • Outdoor gear like a snowsuit and hat, or seasonally appropriate gear (remember that little ones are extra sensitive to cold)

You watched your belly grow for about 9 months, feeling your baby dance and jig about. If you were like me, you used your belly as a shelf to hold whatever food you could stomach at that moment. Finally the day comes when you celebrate the birth of this amazing creature- the moment you have been waiting for- baby to latch on to you and have their first feeding. Sometimes it can be a smooth transition and feel natural and sometimes it is a painful experience that takes a lot of work and even tears. I have had many different experiences with breast feeding my children- all so different. Some kids I nursed well passed their first birthday, some kids I couldn’t handle it and only made it to 5 months, and one baby I had to do both breast feeding and bottle feeding to keep him healthy. With my last little one, there were times I worried that I wasn’t producing enough milk or I would dry up before I was ready to stop. Bleeding and cracking nipples and sometimes clogged ducts- OH MY! Thankfully in this generation there is so much information available right at our finger tips thanks to social media and mommy groups. Back when I had my youngest- every nursing problem came my way and I had happened to attend a baby fair yearly in his first birthday and discovered lactation cookies. I had never heard of cookies helping produce more breast milk before and I was totally not schooled in alternative health back then and I have to admit I was very skeptical trying a sample of these cookies. I am that odd duck that can’t stand the taste of any medication or vitamins and with my big sniffer, I usually can detect it before it hits my taste buds. But these cookies were made with all simple ingredients. So I nibbled on a piece and fell in love with them. Healthy AND delicious cookies! I had decided to purchase a box of the cookies and let my little ones and my hubby try them out. Of course the first question and reaction I got was, “am I going to start leaking booby milk?” And in case you are wondering too, no, it will not. But these cookies are great for everyone in the family since they are packed with many nutrients.

What makes these cookies so special? Brewer’s yeast, most commonly known for its use in the production of beer, contains iron, protein, B vitamins, chromium, selenium and various other trace minerals. Not only does it promote milk supply, it is believed to help with fatigue and the “baby blues.” Oats are another must for breastfeeding mothers. They are high in fiber and full of iron, protein and complex carbohydrates. Low levels of iron in the body can actually reduce milk supply. Flaxseed has good fats and enzymes, which are important for increasing the content of breast milk. Today, I cleared off the counter and tried my hand on some homemade lactation cookies. Even though I am no longer feeding a little baby, these are healthy and a fun snack. I found this recipe online at How Sweet It Isand because I can’t have anything containing gluten, I made a small adjustment so I could enjoy this treat too.

Every great love story has a beginning. How did you meet Adam?

ence for you both and how would you suggest uplifting your spouse in that situation?

We actually met while we were both working at Target. After a few months of working together side-by-side, Adam finally got the courage to ask me out… and then stood me up. No really, he did! But I guess that didn’t stop me from falling in love with him, lol. After a few weeks of taking lunch breaks at work together, I finally agreed to go to dinner with him, but little did I know. Adam failed to tell me he was taking me to dinner…with his whole family for his sister’s birthday. Sneaky little Buzz. All in all, this ‘first family date’ turned out to be a great night and that was the start to us.

This was definitely a challenging time, as are a lot of ‘first time’ experiences as a couple. It brought a lot of stress on our marriage because we both were so heartbroken we both had issues. It made us each feel in our own way that ‘it was my fault’ we were having trouble having a family. Our faith brought us through this time. No matter how hard of a trial that we faced, we would continually remind each other that everything happens for a reason. All we can do is encourage each other and keep reminding each other that God has a plan for our life and things would work our in his perfect timing. It’s easy to get down on yourself, but we were both good about keeping communication open and intentional about not blaming each other through the whole process.

What were your first signs that you needed to see a doctor about fertility? For us, we never really had that ‘moment’ when we said ‘its time to see a fertility doctor’. We actually had a very unique situation; my OBGYN was already an Infertility Specialist. When we wanted to try to have a baby, we informed my OBGYN and as our journey began he was there providing help during our trials. When your doctor discovered that Adam’s testosterone, sperm count, and motility were low, what was the experi-

Not only faced with one fertility obstacle but your own journey of conception. What did you feel when you found out about also being put on Clomid? I was pretty aware that my cycle was not normal so I was actually content with this idea of being put on something to help me ovulate regularly.

Tell us about IUI (Intrauterine insemination), the process physically and emotionally? Once you get to the day of ovulation, the insemination takes place. The doctor takes the sperm sample into a long tube. This tube is then inserted through your cervix into your uterus. The sperm is then released and that is basically it. Then you play the waiting game to see if the sperm meets the egg, and hopefully you get pregnant. We went through this cycle about five times when trying to have Blayke, and then two cycles when having the quintuplets. It is emotionally draining, especially when you have to try and try again. Going through infertility when were trying to have Blayke was one of the most powerful moments in my life. I learn how to let go of control and rely on God and to trust in Him for everything. Though we used the help of doctors and medicine to have a family, it still takes the powers of God to create life. How long was the process and how many cycles did you go through? The process of going through IUI is within your month’s cycle. Starting with medication on day three of your cycle and after so many days it is ultrasound after ultrasound every other day. The ultrasounds were to see how many eggs were being produced and how big they were growing. Once the eggs were of size, and you were ovulating, it was time to do the IUI procedure. We had four unsuccessful rounds of IUI and on the fifth try we finally had a positive! When your doctor told you he wanted you to start thinking about In vitro, what thoughts were going through your mind? Initially it was cost. We had already gone through our savings and going into debt at this point, and now the thought of having to go to IVF‌ It was heartbreaking. I knew how much we wanted a family and the thought of having to spend tens of thousands of dollars to have a family, it was heartbreaking.

A lot of couples struggling with infertility deal with cycles of stress and depression. Was that something you dealt with as a couple? Stress and depression were very much happening while we were going through infertility the first time around. The thought of it being ‘my fault’ to either of us was upsetting and caused a window of depression. Our love for kids was one of the reasons we each fell in love with each other, and the fact that it was ‘my fault’ just made us each depressed. At this time in our lives all our friends were having babies, if not their second child, and we just didn’t understand why we (of all people) were having so much trouble. It is hard to see something you want so bad but can’t have. Trying to have a baby at this point just seems like really hard work. We were on an “infertility schedule” and had to do this that and the other all on a certain time and it seems that there was no intimacy in this ‘trying to have a baby’ plan. It wasn’t fun. Stress of course came around because the financial side of infertility. We went on for over a year of doctor appointments after appointments, this test and that test, then the start of infertility drugs, and then IUI…the money just kept pouring out our pockets. There went our savings and now going into debt, this was so stressful! When you chose to take time off from medical intervention, you speak about prayer and giving God your struggles. How did faith carry you and Adam through your infertility?

This part of our journey has been the most rewarding. When we came to this point of letting go of all control and giving our stress, worries, and unhappiness to God we instantly felt like we were our old selves again. We decided to part from what was causing our marriage so many struggles; the “I can do this” attitude and not keeping God the focus. We started to pray together, we got involved in our church’s high school ministry, met amazing group of friends, and this is where God started to reveal himself through our journey. It was something so far out of Adam’s comfort zone, to mentor to high school kids; and mine but God knew what he was doing. We both got so distracted from ‘trying to have a baby stress’ that we got back to being a happy married couple. God knew our strengths and really used them through serving in this ministry. We started to feel God’s peace as we were confident that we were doing exactly what he wanted us to be doing at that time. What happened once you went back to your doctor? When the next month came around, it was the spur of the moment decision when we said let’s do one more round of IUI. After allowing God to take control and reminding ourselves that it isn’t up to us, but God, we got pregnant with Blayke.

“Our faith brought us through this time. No matter how hard of a trial that we faced, we would continually remind each other that everything happens for a reason.” Tell us about your second journey through infertility. When it was time to finally start trying to have another baby, Adam and I already knew that we would have to go through the same process of infertility to have another child. I prayed and prayed for years that when it is time to have another child to let our journey of infertility be less painful. And IT WAS! Adam did not have to get on any infertility medicines, as everything on his end was perfect. What a blessing this was! We had one round of IUI that was not successful, but then the next one was a positive! (And that it was!) Walk us through the day of the first ultrasound and then the follow up where more blessing babies were seen? Our first ultrasound was alarming because we did not see anything! I didn’t understand why my blood work was showing a positive pregnancy with high, super high, hcg levels but yet there was nothing visible in the ultrasound. My Doctor sent me to do more blood work to see if my levels had doubled or dropped. My levels did go up so maybe it was just too early to see anything. We waited a week or so and went back for another ultrasound. Praise God! We saw one sac and a baby. I was so thankful! We were really pregnant! The next ultrasound was pure shock!! There were clear as day 3 sacs we could see on the screen at one time and then ONE more kind of off to the side hiding. So now we were looking at FOUR babies. Adam just turned white and was about to pass out and I just cannot stop laughing! I just am in shock and for some reason I not stop laughing. We saw and heard all FOUR heartbeats this day and it was so surreal! We were told by the doctor to come back in two weeks for another ultrasound and to prepare ourselves for what could possibly happen, we may not see this many babies next time. We go back and what do you know God had more in store for us. We immediately saw 2 babies in one sac… AND that was NOT there last time. Adam dropped his coffee all over the floor and it hit me again, the laughter. We were now having FIVE babies! I can’t imagine what it’s like to prepare for the birth of multiples. How did you prepare to bring home 5 babies? I sought out advice from others who had high numbers of multiples. I actually knew a few people who had quadruplets to sextuplets and they provided me some great insight. I also got involved in a Facebook group for quintuplet moms, and THAT was one of the best places to get advice. There were about 150 moms around the world in this group who all went through what I was going through. Any question I had, they were able to answer; like what we needed to buy and how many, to how do you feed all five babies. I am so fortunate to have been able to connect with these other moms.

We knew our house was not big enough for 5 other human beings; we only had a 3-bedroom house. We went through every part of the house and organized it better. We moved stuff around, got rid of things, and made as much room as possible. Adam also built storage shelves in the garage to store items like diaper and wipes, and we also got a storage unit to move stuff into to make more room in the house. Carrying one baby is overwhelming for many of us, even twins, but tell us physically what the journey was like with 5? Being pregnant with five babies at one time was… crazy! It still blows my mind today that they were all in there at one time, ha. I never had morning sickness when I was pregnant with Blayke, but with the quints, I threw up a few times a day for the first 13 weeks. I would even wake up in the middle of the night so sick. It was so hard to keep anything down, it was miserable. I was so worried about the babies because how were they getting any nutrition when all I did was puke all day… but the doctor kept telling me they were fine. When I hit 20 weeks, I already looked like I was full term with a singleton. I was completely uncomfortable all the time, even lying down. I would prop myself around a mound of pillows to help in any way. I had such bad heartburn 24-7. It was hard to breathe all the time. I felt like I just needed some cold medicine but my specialist doctor kept telling me ‘nothing will help you breathe until the babies are out’, he was totally right about that. Once, the babies were big enough to where I could feel them moving, oh man! That became painful! Kicking, pushing, all fighting for space when there wasn’t any… ouch! I had to eat 4500 calories a day, which was so hard! I think I was able to reach that just a hand full of times, I mostly ate about 3500 a day. My diet was all about protein and calories. It seemed like everyone’s dream, eat the ice-cream before the salad. I would eat on schedule because I had to have the calories but I was never hungry. As much as I didn’t enjoy all this eating, I did it all for those babies. I was in great shape before I had the quints and it was hard to see my body change so FAST; but I knew they were going to be premature, so my goal was to get them as big as possible. I was pretty sure I would get stretch marks because I was growing five babies, so I found the most amazing oil and cream to rub all the time on my fast growing belly (The Spoiled Mama’s Tummy Butter and Bump Gloss). Amazing it was! I didn’t get one stretch mark!! When I got to week 27, my belly was just getting so miserable. I could just feel the skin getting thin, and it started to itch like crazy. I was up and walking till the day I delivered and I think my whole pregnancy went so amazing because I had taken such great care of my body after I had Blayke. I never would have thought after having Blayke that me wanting to eat better and work out, would be preparing me one day for having quintuplets. But as I look back through all the years of my life (child and adult), I see how God molded me to be who I am today. I was created for this! I was created to be a Mother to half dozen girls and I wouldn’t have my life any other way.

Birth day; what is it like waking up knowing you will see 5 little faces that day, that you made?! Tell us about the birth of the Quintuplets and bringing them each home? I will be one emotional wreck when their birthday comes. I am already emotional doing all the planning, ha. The birth of the quints could not have gone any better. The Doctor’s goal was to get to 28 weeks and we were at 28 weeks and one day. I had an ultrasound to check on, well… as much as we could. There was so many babies in one tiny area that it had gotten to the point were you just didn’t know what you were looking at, or what head went to what body, etc. We were taking it day by day, trying to get to my goal of 30 weeks. I was already at the hospital so I could be monitored closely. I went to bed this night feeling different. I didn’t think at all it was contractions; I had such different pains all the time with having five babies in there. When the next morning came (28 weeks and 2 days) my day nurse walked in and asked how the night went. I told her I felt different and so we went ahead and put the monitor on to see if I was having contractions. Yep! That was the different feeling I was having. They started coming so my Doctor decided that we should go ahead and schedule a c-section. The contractions kept coming closer and closer so I felt this was the right decision. We did not want to get to a point to where we had an emergency and rushed everything. At this point we had all the staff there we needed, which was a team of about 40 people. It just felt like the right time to do this.

Once the c-section began we had all 5 babies out in 4 minutes. Ava Lane 2lbs 4oz, Olivia Marie 2lbs 6 oz, Hazel Grace 2lbs, Riley Paige 2lbs 4oz and Parker Kate 2lbs 4oz. They all went straight to the NICU where they had an amazing team of Doctors working on them. Once I was in recovery, the nurse wheeled in Riley and Parker Kate for me to see. I was so nervous to see them for the first time. I didn’t know what to expect but they were so tiny and looked so good! Parker Kate was first baby to come home followed by Hazel Grace just 3 days later. It was so great having some of the girls home. Blayke finally got to hold her sisters all she wanted. She was so excited to tell everyone she had some of her sisters home, it was such a special moment. It was easy with Blayke and ‘twins’. Adam fed a baby and I fed a baby, piece of cake (or I think we just thought it was easy because we knew we had more to come). Adam was still working fulltime because I told him I didn’t want him to take any time off until I had at least 4 of the girls home. It was getting harder though to get to the hospital daily to see our other girls, it broke my heart but I knew they were being taken well care of. Adam would go after work and I would try to go on the weekends. Two more weeks passed and Olivia Marie and Riley Paige came home together. Four babies were home and it was challenging of course but it was even, Adam had 2 babies to feed and I had 2 babies to feed. I wasn’t able to go to the hospital at all to see Ava during this time because it was non-stop around the clock work at our house.

Trying to learn to adapt with so many babies and doing it without the care of nurses, it was hard for sure. But as hard as we thought it was with four, the day Ava Lane came home was so wonderful; however, it made everything so much harder. We felt we got to a system with four (two babies each) and then bam! Who was going to feed the fifth baby? Ha. But I got all the babies on a schedule, which was the best thing I ever did, and we had amazing group of supportive people who came in and helped with everything we possibly needed help with. The first year; congratulations, you made it! Tell us about life with multiples and how faith has kept your family and marriage strong this year?

One thing is for certain; God has been in control over all that has happened in our lives… especially the last year! We know that the journey we are on is truly unbelievable and He is giving a pretty amazing story to tell. This year has been filled with so many blessings and challenges. Experiencing life in the NICU with not just one baby, but five, was probably the hardest thing I have ever had to go through. There were so many ups and downs you experience when you have a child, or five, in the NICU. There was never a day that wasn’t hard, even on the good days. As a Mom to these five babies, I felt helpless. I felt that I couldn’t do what I was meant to do: hold them, feed them, be with them, and take them home. I struggled with the feeling of ‘do they know I am their Mommy’. God was our strength through this time! We had so many family, friends, and even strangers praying for our precious miracles.

We waited about 3 months until everyone was out of the NICU and at home; we were finally our complete family of 8! We were feeding the babies every 3 hours, which took about an hour and half to get them all fed. We used about 50 diapers a day. I lived off of 4 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period, pure exhaustion all the time. God has been there all along as He continued to pour out his love over us. He provided me strength to get me through those days I had absolutely no energy. His presence is here all the time reminding me of patience, especially when all five are screaming. He has also poured out His love and support through friends, family, and our church community; from helping feed babies, clean house, make dinner, yard work, laundry, etc. When you have five babies and a four year old, one can imagine how little time you have for yourself, yet alone your spouse. Adam and I have been determined to keep our marriage and relationship strong. Though it may be hard at times, we try our best to find time away or just even a movie night on the couch every week. You’re also mom to little Blayke. What are your suggestions on keeping jealousy and insecurity away when introducing new little ones into the family? God sure did bless us when he created our sweet Blayke. She has always been such a sweet and amazing child. Blayke has surprised us so much by the way she has adjusted to her new life with five baby sisters all at one time. I make a point everyday to have one-on-one time with my Blayke. I try my very best to make sure she knows she is still so special to me. Sometimes to Blayke a simple bowl of ice cream on the back porch is enough and other times we need to get out of the house and have girl time getting our nails done. I also make sure to involve Blayke when I have to do things for the quints so she doesn’t feel left out. Positive communication and positive reinforcement keeps her spirits and self esteem up too. As the ultimate mom of multiples. What are some of your must-have products and baby gear items that go you through the first year? As one can imagine, we have gone through so many baby items. (I actually made a post about this on my blog ItsABuzzWorld.com) I have so many favorite must have baby items, but here are my top favorites: -Baby Breeza (which is like a coffee pot of formula). -Rock-N-Play (the quints slept in these for weeks due to their reflux and they helped them stay elevated). -4 Moms Mamaroo (amazing swings that mimic a mom’s natural movements). -Good swaddle sacks / blankets, we loved Halo Swaddle Sleepsacks and LuLuJu swaddle blankets. -Nose Freida (the best booger sucker ever!). -Rodan + Fields Soothe (Sensitive Skin treatment and Moisture Replenishment cream for eczema. I have sold Rodan + Fields for years and I swear by Soothe, I think it is definitely a must have item for every Mom). You have a new exciting show coming to TLC. What can viewers expect to see? You will see moments from the birth of the quintuplets to a few months after we were all home. All the adjustments, challenges and blessings of becoming a family of eight over night. The show will also include my zany mother, my twin sisters and the rest of our loud family.

Gift of Motherhood P H O T O G R A P H Y B Y: S I M P L I C I T Y P H O T O G R A P H Y

How did you find out you were expecting? Having just given birth to my daughter thirteen months earlier, I knew I was expecting once again as soon as I started craving red meat and jalapeños. My daughter was an unbelievably colicky infant, and I remember thinking “How can we do this again?!”, but as soon as I saw that positive test I looked at her beaming smile in my lap and my heart melted. What was pregnancy like for you? Did you find joys in pregnancy?-- Pregnancy is so different the second time around. With the first, you spend the majority of your time trying to navigate through it: educating yourself on foods to avoid, fretting over every tweak you feel, and spending half the day on various pregnancy apps that depict what size fruit your baby is that week. Im guilty of every one of those things! The second time around, I was confident in the sensations of a healthy pregnancy and my body’s ability to grow/birth my child, so I got to simply sit back and enjoy being pregnant. It was such a relief. What do you find beautiful about motherhood? To say motherhood is a gift is cliche and overused but so very true. After having children, I am continually in awe of the connection a mother and baby have to one another, beginning in the womb and culminating through the birthing process. It’s an amazing moment to work so hard and finally pull your baby up to your chest to rest. It’s something I pray every woman would get the opportunity to experience in some form or another. How did pregnancy and motherhood change you as a woman? Being given the gift of pregnancy and motherhood has changed me as a woman, wife, friend, and family member. I have been physically and emotionally pushed farther than I ever knew my body was capable of doing, for better and for worse. Ive loved harder than I ever thought possible, I’ve cried harder than i ever thought possible. All this has given me more confidence and empowerment to be the woman and wife I want to model for my children. If you could pass on knowledge to a new expecting mom, what would it be? Motherhood is hard. People are nervous to say this, and not even my family was very open with me until I came running for help after many sleepless nights. Look for a wonderful support system now like a friend, family, spouse, or a moms group to help you navigate this scary, wonderful, amazing thing called motherhood. It will give you the freedom to enjoy these very fleeting precious moments.

A Story of Hope A N I N T E R V I E W A N D P H O T O G R A P H Y B Y: LO R R I E A N N P H O T O G R A P H Y

My husband and I decided to try and start a family a year after we got married after many conversations. I was of course very excited and thought that I will end up pregnant immediately. Every month I would take a test. I almost convinced myself every month I was pregnant, even if the test read negative. I had went to the doctor after about 9 months of trying. They said to continue to take ovulation tests and that we would take the next step after a full year of trying. I never received a positive on the ovulation tests ever. It was such a hard time and we were not sharing this with anyone at this time. What made it even more difficult was that my sister, sister-in-law, step-sister, and brother’s girlfriend were all pregnant and due around the same time. I was about to have 2 new nieces and two new nephews and I had to pretend to be happy. That was always the hardest. When the one year mark finally came, my doctor after having ran all the normal tests, sent me to a specialist. That doctor of course ran more tests and told me that there is no reason I shouldn’t fall pregnant. I was diagnosed with PCOS at this time but the doctor had told us that “2015 was going to be our year,” so we were hopeful. He put me on an oral fertility drug to get me to ovulate. This included blood tests, many pills, and ultrasounds every month. I went through three rounds of this treatment and not even coming close to falling pregnant. There was nothing left for this doctor to do so he sent me to an actual fertility doctor. We traveled three hours to meet with this doctor. He again put me on a type of oral treatment since I wasn’t ovulating. At this time we shared our story with our close family and close friends. I became extremely depressed. My sister who was one of the ones who was pregnant when we first started to try was now pregnant with twins. I was exciting but my heart broke and my selfishness took over. I would spend many nights not even able to talk to my husband. I can’t even describe the feeling of not being able to give my husband a baby he so wanted. This fertility doctor was also hopeful of our situation but after another 3 failed cycles, totally 6, injectables were the next option. We had an appointment scheduled to drive another 3 hours to meet the doctor again and start this process of my husband giving me shots in my belly every day along with blood tests every week and ultrasounds. I was scared because we were still trying to go on with life and new that this was probably not the best time for this. We were at a dance competition when I received the text message that will forever change my life it read “What if I told you I know a girl who is pregnant with twins and wants to give them up for adoption. Would you be interested?” I instantly felt sick to my stomach and shared the news with my husband. We had just found out that the 6th cycle had failed and we were going to be having to do injectables and then we get a message like that? We didn’t know what to think, our stomachs were turning.

The next morning, I woke up and felt like this was what God has in store for us. After having a long conversation with my husband, we decided to cancel my appointment for the injectables and message this pregnant woman. I messaged her that evening and we had hit it off. She was 11 weeks pregnant at the time and felt like we were the right match from the first message. It was incredible to connect with someone right away. She invited us to her 12 week doctor’s appointment where we met for the very first time. I was able to go in the room and see the babies for the first time in an ultrasound. At that moment I knew those were my babies. I felt just as I had always imagined I would when I found out I was pregnant. We never missed a doctor’s appointment after that. It was tough during the pregnancy knowing someone else had complete control over the care of my children, but I prayed daily and always felt like this was God’s plan. There were times when the birth mom had thought about keeping the babies bringing me right back into a state of loss and feeling as if this was just another failed attempt but by God’s grace everything worked out. On February 10th we got the call that the babies were being born and rushed to the hospital. When my husband and I walked into the hospital I just felt a sense of relief and joy sweep over me. I instantly started bawling because the moment I had prayed for and hoped for was finally here. The birth mom had put my little girl in my arms. Later, our son was brought into the room and my husband was able to pick him up and place him in the birth mom’s arms and then later in mine. These were our babies from day 1 in our mind and even more so when I saw them. The hospital graciously gave us our own room where the babies stayed with us until we were able to take them home and start our life as a family of 4!!! It is so crazy to look back and see how far we have come. We had never considered adoption before but it came into our lives when we least expected it. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to go through. Being a mother is all I have ever wanted and God has blessed us more than we could imagine with twins.

Ana Brandt is a California based award winning photographer, author, teacher, and mother of 3 who has been specializing in pregnancy and newborn imagery for over 15 years. Her classic images for an established and growing A list clientele have appeared in numerous publications, books, websites, and physician offices. Ana has written two books, The Art of Pregnancy and Newborn and Baby + Facts = What Every Newborn Photographer Needs to Know, and also runs TAoPaN (The Art of Pregnancy and Newborn) providing mentoring, workshops, and an entire clothing line for photographers choosing to focus on pregnancy and newborn stage.

Hi, I’m Valerie! I am fortunate enough to be a native of Santa Barbara and still be able to call this paradise, home. I am a wife and a mother to a four year old daughter and humbled that my maternity and then newborn clients welcome me into their lives to be part of their growing family. Allowing me the opportunity to capture these moments for them is a privilege and honor. My specialty is being there for the little details and those in between moments that memories are made.

Lil Buttons Photography was born out of owner, Jessica Rogers’ creative nature and her desire to have a non-traditional job after the birth of her own little boy. After months spent training in newborn photography, she took up her longtime passion with renewed appreciation for the fleeting moments of baby’s first year. Where some photographers rely heavily on over-the-top props, Jessica prefers delicate knits and subtle pieces that highlight the natural warmth of her tiny subjects. Her full-service San Clemente studio offers eco-friendly, heirloom-quality products as well as digital images.

Hi! My name is Leigh Castelli and I am the proud owner and operator of Leigh Castelli Photography in San Diego, California! Photography has always been a great passion of mine but my career out of college took me down a different path. After spending more than a decade producing daytime television for TLC and The Oprah Winfrey Show, I knew the time had finally come to turn my lifelong passion into a full time career. I have met so many amazing people and I truly feel that I have the BEST clients in the world! As a busy mother of two, I know how fleeting the moments are and it is my absolute pleasure to capture those authentic emotions and memories to be treasured for generations to come. Knowing that my clients trust me is the greatest feeling in the world and I’m so honored to share my passion with all of you!

I’m a wife, momma, and a professional photographer. I found my passion for photography almost ten years ago when I started as a high school senior portrait photographer. Shortly before becoming a mom, I began specializing in newborns, children, and families. As a wife and mother, I recognize that things change way too fast and photographs help me remember what I might otherwise forget over time. For that reason, I’m here to help you by documenting your family’s journey! I love what I do and find joy in meeting new families as they welcome their little one into the world. Whether it’s photographing your newborn, a special milestone, or your family over the years, it’s rewarding for me to capture moments for you to cherish forever through photographs. My goal is that our time together is relaxed, genuine, fresh, creative, and fun!

Hi! My name is Natalie, owner of Nurture Baby Photography. I get to capture brand new babies in the South Bay & Los Angeles area. I’m a mama, wife, & dreamer. I love sweets, game nights, & babies! I’ve always been a baby hog so it was very natural for me to transition into newborn & baby photography. The more I worked with newborns & babies, the more I realized how much I loved capturing them in their simplest forms. I believe in letting babies shine through simplicity and pureness. I am a firm believer in the quote “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.” My business really sets my soul on fire. It is always such an honor when parents have chosen me to photography their brand new babies and capture all of their freshness. It is not a responsibility that I take lightly, but that I take happily. I’m so excited to be on this journey, and can’t wait to take this little dream of mine, and make it into a huge reality!

Photography is so much more that a passion for me. While I grew up in paradise, my childhood was anything but. My parents were too busy doing other things instead of documenting our lives, and when my father passed away several years ago, I was only left with a handful of pictures. So when my daughters were born, was when I first started documenting and truly enjoying photography.

After all, life is what you make of it and I intend to make it amazing! I have been a photographer for as long as I can remember. In third grade, I was diagnosed with a learning disability. This made school pretty difficult for me, and I struggled to keep up with my peers academically. For my ninth birthday, my grandmother gave me a gift that would end up being priceless to me. She gave me my first camera. My grandmother thought it would help me excel in the Arts, the part of school I actually enjoyed. And, well, was she right. From that day forward, I never put it down. My camera has become a part of me.

I am a full service photographer specializing in high fashion images for my Maternity clients and lifestyle portraiture for my Newborns. My goal is to give you an experience and images that are unique to you and a memory you will not forget.

Deanna Spivey Photography offers custom photography and strives to capture genuine moments clients will treasure. With a passion for capturing the glow of a pregnant mom to be, the amazing wonder of newborns, and the simple joy of children, it is an honor to be allowed into clients’ lives during the momentous and the monotonous.

I am a lifestyle photographer specializing in newborn, family portraiture, and weddings. I use “lifestyle” to describe my photography because to me, it speaks of real life, real moments, and real emotions. I’m drawn to emotion filled images and beautiful light.

Renee Antonelli Valente is the owner of Captured By Renee photography, a New Jersey based award winning studio specializing in Newborn and Maternity photography. Capturing the very essence of new life, Renee uses a blend of styles and works with each client to ensure the right looks and palette for them to create a stunning array of classic, artful images for her clients that quickly become their most treasured heirlooms. “There is nothing more important to me than to be able to preserve these incredibly special moments for families”, says Renee. “As a photographer, it is my greatest reward and honor to be able to create stunning, timeless images that hallmark the beginnings of this treasured journey we call ‘family’.”

littlelovestories.com My name is Stephanie Willoughby and I am a professional published photographer as well as a wife & mother of three, who resides in the great state of New Jersey. I tell other people’s stories through biographical films and photography. It’s my life’s work and I’m so grateful that this is what I’ve been called to do. I’m the kind of person who seeks to find the beauty in every thing, every day. It’s amazing how you find what you are looking for. My daughter will tell you that I’m the best photographer on Earth (she’s little, but she might just be right).

halfpintphotos.com I am the owner and photographer of Half Pint Photography. I am a special education teacher and photographer. I am also a runner, I practice yoga, I surf and I love to cook! I am married to my best friend Craig, we had our beautiful daughter in June 2010, and we recently had our son in 2013. I started Half Pint Photography after years of wanting to pursue it, but never having the courage to. After becoming a mommy in 2010, I realized I could make this dream come true. Watching my daughter grow up so quickly before my eyes made me realize that time flies too quickly, and these moments can pass right before your eyes if you don’t take the time to capture them. That’s why I am here! I want to freeze those precious moments in time when your baby is first born, or every day family events and portraits. Memories last a lifestime, but photographs help you relive those moments that went by so fast. I look forward to capturing those special moments of your family.
