OUR MISSION Here at Beauty & Lifestyle Mommy magazine, we are mothers first and then we are editors. The pages of every magazine and every post on our website have been inspired by the hearts of real women; whether it be inspired by our own journey of motherhood, the stories our readers in our community share, or even those who have traveled the road of motherhood long before us. Our mission for the publication and community of mothers is what we would desire in a publication ourselves. We want to inspire you to embrace the beauty of pregnancy, to empower you to birth without fear, and to equipt you with inspiration and tools to parent with not perfection, but purpose. In a society that diminishes the role of a mother, we believe the role should be celebrated and honored everyday for what it stands for. “In life your greatest purpose may not be what you do but who you raise”, our editor’s well worn quote. We believe that mothers are the central core of society and community. It is the most important journey you will ever travel and that parenting with purpose means choosing to parent with intention by creating a meaningful upbringing for your children. Dive in, share your story with us and join our community of mothers who celebrate each other!

LETTER FROM EDITOR
B eing a m o m is a ful l er th a n ful l -tim e j o b a nd o u t o f 8 , 7 60 h o ur s a yea r, yo u des er ve t ho se 24 o n M o th er ’s Day ! Is it too soon to wish you a Happy Mother’s Day? I don’t think so! Maybe we should make it into a huge week-long celebration! How about a week of no alarm clock and sleeping in? A week without doing dishes, or cooking? A week devoted to putting your own priorities above everyone elses? Well, now that I type that out, it’s suddenly clear why it’s only one day a year, and always a Sunday! Because the world would cease to exist as we know it if moms stopped being moms every day! I used to think of Mother’s Day as everyone on their best behavior, no arguments and talking nicely to one another, no one leaving anything on the stairs or dishes around for me to clean, and that my children would compliment me all day long on how amazing my mothering skills are! Obviously, when my ridiculously HIGH EXPECTATIONS weren’t met for several years in a row, I let go of them and realized that really it was just another day. Everyone would still expect the same effort from me, but on this one day a year I was rewarded with an adorable handmade card of some sort (which I love!) and probably a last-minute gift that I would stuff in the closet never to be worn or used. Then last year everything changed; Don asked me what I wanted and for once I decided to tell him exactly what I wanted. Because being a mom is a fuller than full-time job and out of the 8,760 hours in a year, well I deserve those 24 hrs. There is nothing wrong with us asking for what we want and giving others ideas on just how to put a smile on our face for Mother’s Day. It’s okay to ask for a pretty necklace you’ve had your eye on vs. nose hair clippers (yes, one of our readers did in fact receive nose hair clippers for Mother’s Day one year) because most husbands and kids are terrible gift givers, though their hearts are in the right places. They will actually appreciate you telling them what you want. Whether your idea gift is wrapped with a bow in a Tiffany Blue box or sleeping in and a clean house, your Mother’s Day should be your day, your way!

GIRL WASH YOUR FACE by Rachel Hollis
THE LIGHT WITHIN ME by Ainsley Earhardt When Laura Flynn was a little girl, her beautiful, dynamic mother, Sally, was the center of her imagination. It wasn’t long, however, before Sally’s fun-loving side slowly and methodically became absorbed by madness.
Each chapter of Girl, Wash Your Face begins with a specific lie Hollis once believed that left her feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, or ready to give up. As a working mother, a former foster parent, and a woman who has dealt with insecurities about her body and relationships, she speaks with the insight and kindness of a BFF, helping women unpack the limiting mindsets that destroy their self-confidence and keep them from moving forward. SPILLED MILK by K.L Randis Brooke Nolan is a battered child who makes an anonymous phone call about the escalating brutality in her home. When social services jeopardize her safety condemning her to keep her father’s secret, it’s a glass of spilled milk at the dinner table that forces her to speak about the cruelty she’s been hiding. In her pursuit for safety and justice Brooke battles a broken system that pushes to keep her father in the home.

Thank you a Brunch
SOUTHERN CHARM AT ITS FINEST TIPS TO HOSTING A STRESS-FREE BRUNCH When you have beautiful moms who take a day off to model the most stylish diaper bags of the year for your magazine photoshoot, you throw them a “ Thank You a Brunch”. While my alter ego does not include master party planner, I am lucky enough to have an amazingly talented editor, Kate, who is! Here are seven tips to host a brunch without stress, and without getting up at 5 am to prep. 1. Set up the night before. It’s never a good idea to rush things right before guests arrive… so if your party begins in the a.m., it’s especially important to set up your spread the night before. Lay out place settings, hang decorations, and make sure there are plenty of seats to go around. It might seem silly, but take time to jot down a game plan of the steps you need to complete the next day. Think of reminders about reheating muffins, brewing coffee, cleaning last-minute dishes and more. A little extra legwork in advance will ease stress levels the morning of. 2. Set up a self-serve bar. Having a themed buffet station gives parties a lighthearted touch. Make space on the counter for a special bubbly bar or coffee station for guests to serve themselves as they mingle. Your party-goers will love being able to customize their beverages. Plus, it gives you a chance to make a super-sweet display. 3. Do not make pancakes. Ever. Skip the flapjacks in favor of muffins that can be prepared the night before and popped in the oven, or even better, pick up fresh bagels and croissants from your local baker the morning of and forget using your oven.

4. Do make scones or biscuits. If you do want to show off your baking skills, make scones ahead of time (like, even two weeks ahead of time) and freeze. You guessed it—pop these in the oven the morning of. Biscuits work well too! 5. Don’t forget about the kiddos .With all the excitement, it might be easy to forget about the kid’s table. If children are on the guest list, offer simple items like cereal and milk. They are more likely to eat what they recognize rather than try new or “fancy” breakfast food or like us, just stick to the basics for everyone like lots of fresh fruit, croissants, muffins, and bagels.
6. Keep your centerpiece fun and casual. When it comes to decorations, we’re all for having fun decor! Brighten up your brunch table by having your local florist make a couple pretty bouquets and then pick out a few pretty water goblets for a little sparkle. Another easy trick is to incorporate fresh produce naturally throughout the table. Think outside the box by using pretty fruits like pomegranate, grapefruits, peaches, and bright citruses. They’ll make a charming (and budget-friendly) display. Tip #7: Relax, you’ve got this! Above all else, remember to have fun. The whole point of having a brunch is to enjoy the company of your friends and family. So don’t hole yourself up in the kitchen like a short order cook or panic if things aren’t going according to plan. Your guests will feel more encouraged to have a good time if they see you are, too. So grab a drink or two and get out there to party with your guests!

Dainty Cheeks is the result of many years of dreaming of a fun line for kids that is a little off beat and full of imagination. Kids are wondrous little beings and I wanted to give them something they would be proud to say they made themselves. Each piece is thought up, cut out, stitched together and made with love - a true representation of handmade. All designs are made in limited quantities to embody a real one of a kind nature. With a combination of new and upcycled/vintage fabrics, many Dainty Cheeks pieces not only have a bright future, but a sweet past as well.
What makes Dainty Cheeks Dolls so special? In short, they are made with a lot of love and obsessive attention to detail right here in the USA. Each doll takes approximately 3-5 hours to complete and the combination of new and vintage/repurposed fabric used in their creation means they not only have a bright future, but a sweet past as well. You can purchase your own ready to ship doll which are listed once a week. Days and times are always listed at the beginning of the week on the Dainty Cheeks website homepage as well as on Instagram @daintycheeks.They are first come first serve and it’s usually recommended that you are ready to purchase at the time of the restock.

INSTRUCTIONS 1. To make dough: In a large bowl, mix the flour, the sugar, salt, and yeast together until evenly dispersed. Set aside. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and turn off after 10 minutes or just before placing rolls in oven. 3. To make filling: After the dough has rested for 5 minutes, roll it out in a 15x9 inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter on top. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle it all over the dough. Roll up the dough tightly and cut into 9 (large) even pieces. Place in a lightly greased 9-inch or square pan (or cut into 12 small pieces and place in a 9x13 pan) and lightly cover with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. 4. Spanish Eggs RECIPE
Homemade BlackBerry Jam - easy, preservative-free jam recipe with handpicked blackberries and organic local honey. INGREDIENTS FOR THE EGGS AND POTATOES • • • • • •
3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1 pound yellow-fleshed potatoes 1 small yellow onion 8 large eggs Coarse sea salt Freshly ground black pepper
FOR THE HERBY MAYO • Handful of your favorite fresh herbs, preferably a blend, such as mint, basil and thyme • 1/4 cup mayonnaise • 1/4 lemon INSTRUCTIONS 1. For the eggs and potatoes: heat the oil in a 9-inch cast-iron or ovenproof skillet, over medium heat. Rinse the potatoes, then cut them into 1/4-inch rounds, placing them flat in the skillet as you work. Peel the onion and cut into thin slices, adding them to the pan. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally so the potatoes brown on both sides and don’t stick to the pan. 2. Strain into a heatproof colander with a heatproof bowl beneath it to collect the oil. Position an oven rack 6 inches from the broiler element; preheat to broil. (You can reuse the oil, keeping in mind that it is onion-flavored; you will be using 1 tablespoon of it shortly.) 3. Whisk the eggs in a large liquid measuring cup, then season generously with salt and pepper. Add the drained potato-onion mixture and stir to coat. 4. Heat a tablespoon of the reserved oil in the now-empty skillet, over medium heat. Pour in the egg-potato mixture. Reduce the heat to medium-low; cook for about 5 minutes, until the edges are just set. Transfer to the oven; broil for about 3 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. 5. Meanwhile, make the herby mayo: Mince the herbs and place in medium bowl, along with the mayo. Squeeze in the juice from the 1/4 lemon, stirring until well incorporated. 6. Use a thin spatula to loosen around the edges of the eggs (tortilla) and then under them. Slide it out of the pan and onto a cutting board. Sprinkle with a little more salt. Let it sit for a minute, then cut into 6 equal wedges. NUTRITION INFORMATION Serving size: 6

How to create a relaxing bath for her in 15 steps. When it comes to your partner, you really want to do something that she will never forget. Bubble baths are always a favorite, because she never seems to have enough time to slow down and relax. 1. Clean your bathroom. It will be difficult to create a romantic atmosphere in a dirty bathroom. To set up the most romantic evening possible, you’ll need to make sure nothing in the bathroom is dirty or grimy. This includes not only the bathtub, but the rest of your bathroom as well. Mop or sweep the floor, wash out the bathtub, and clean all surfaces, including the sink. 2. Choose a good time. The best time is when you know you will be uninterrupted. Unanticipated little guests or interruptions can quickly ruin a relaxing mood. Make sure your children will be away at a friends or grandparents, so that you and your partner are able to relax without fear of being interrupted. 3. Set up a solid plan. Make sure your partner will be available when you set up the bath. Nothing will dampen the mood like being informed that your partner is suddenly busy, or will be coming home much later than expected. Set up a time with your partner, and ask that they stick with it. You can secure up a time by sending out a cute, handwritten invitation that says something like: “You are invited this evening for a relaxing bubble bath.” 4. Select a couple of items to add to her bath. Too many additions might make the water overly fragrant or look too crowded. Limit the amount of things you put in her bath to three or four components. These items can be roses, essential oils, bath salts, and bubble bath. Make a list of what you want to put in the bath, and make sure you have everything before preparing the bath. 5. Draw a bath. Don’t run a bath too long before your partner gets home, or it will run cold. You should run the bath about ten minutes before she is expecting to get into the bath.
It’s better to make the water a little hotter than comfortable because it will cool down before she steps into into it. Let the bathtub fill up to a comfortable level that will be full enough, but not overfilled. 6. Pour bubble bath into the running water. Adding bubble bath to the water while the tub is filling up adds a mood of both frivolity and romance. Look for more scents such as vanilla, rather than using the same fruity-scented bubbles you would put in a child’s bath. Don’t overdo the bubbles to the point that they flow out of the bath, but add in enough that the bathtub is filled with them. The bubbles will fade quicker than expected. 7. Add bath salts. Bath salts help soften skin and usually add pleasant scents and colors to your bath. These are available at most bed and bath shops, as well as some specialty or beauty supply stores. Epsom salts and sea salts are examples of salts that you can add to your bath.
8. Add a few drops of essential oils. Adding a couple drops of essential oils, such as lavender, jasmine, or cedar wood, to the bathwater introduces aromatherapy into your relaxing soak. The oils smell great, but they can also affect your mood. They can make you feel relaxed or invigorated. Make sure not to add in too many drops, especially if your bubble bath is scented. *Lavender oil is great for relaxation and lemon oil is good for invigoration* 9. Put rose petals on top of the water. Rose petals sprinkled on top of the water add a romantic and fragrant effect to your bath. You can also blend a few cups of rose petals with a blender filled with warm water to make a puree. Swirl it into the hot bathwater, or massage it onto her during the bath. *You can also spread some rose petals throughout your bathroom for an added romantic effect* 10. Set out a loofah or sponge. Gather or purchase large sponges or loofahs to use while she is soaking in the tub.
The more absorbent the sponges are, the better, because it allows you to squeeze the warm water over body parts that are not submerged. Use the loofah to rub on your partner during the bath. 11. Light candles. Set the scene by lighting candles around the bathroom. You can also set candles around the edge of the tub if the rim is wide enough that you won’t knock them over. Tea light candles are great because they usually come with plenty in a package to set up. Any type of candle will work though. 12. Create a playlist. Make a playlist beforehand to ensure you have a constant stream of your favorite romantic music playing during your bath. Try to find music choices that you both enjoy. Set up speakers or a music playing device ahead of time, and keep all electronic devices far away from the water to avoid electrocution. You can use an smartphone hooked up to a speaker, or a CD player.
13. Prepare a tray with treats. Prepare a tray with glasses of champagne or wine and strawberries or grapes to enjoy with your partner while soaking in the bath. Set the tray on a small table near the tub so it is easy for you both to access. *If your partner does not drink, set out a glass with sparking juice or another one of their favorite drinks* 14. Have towels ready. Have fluffy towels or bathrobes ready for when she is ready to get out of the bath. As an extra loving touch, warm the towels or robes ahead of time in the dryer or using a towel warmer. If you don’t have a dryer or towel warmer, you can set your oven to 150 °F (65.6 °C), place the towels in a clean roasting pan, and cover the pan with foil. Keep the towels in the oven only long enough for them to get warm. 15. It is all about her. The most important step in creating a relaxing bubble bath for your partner is to remember it is not about you, it is ALL about her. Romance and sex are two different things and though one may many times lead into another, that is not where your focus should be on Mother’s Day. Your focus before and during her relaxing bath should be on her relaxation, putting yourself and your needs aside and showing her that she is the most important woman in your world, but if she invites you to join her in the tub, by all means go for it!
This is all abour HER and not about you.
