atigue, as we know, is the overall feeling of tiredness or a lack of energy that is often traced back to our routines and behaviours. A new topic of discussion focuses on digital fatigue, who many are not even aware exists. Those days when your eyes feel dry, that dull headache you can’t seem to shift, neck strains and poor posture – those can all be signs you are suffering from digital fatigue, which can affect our bodies mentally and physically. According to The Sleep Foundation, an excessive amount of screen time can affect the body’s levels of Melatonin, often referred to as the sleep hormone. The blue light emitted by screens including phones, laptops and televisions can reduce the amount of Melatonin that is produced

and in turn, disrupt the quality and duration of your sleep, upsetting our cardiac rhythm; a key factor in digital fatigue. Blue light from our devices has also been found to cause slow yet serious degradation of our skin’s structure. Too much screen exposure can lead to more fine lines and wrinkles and a loss of plumpness. Recent studies also show that blue light has a greater ability than UV light to penetrate our skin and could be just as, if not, more active in causing pigmentation across our skin.

1. Be mindful of your screen time – allow plenty of breaks away from your TV, phone and laptop. Incorporate gentle movements and stretches to keep you nimble and try to factor in short walks to get as much fresh air as you can. Many devices now offer features that send alerts when you have reached your daily screen time limit and allow you to change the screen display to a warmer, more yellow hue to reduce eye strain. For when you need to use a screen, you can purchase a blue light screen protector for your devices or invest in glasses that block out blue light altogether. 2. Build a consistent skincare regime – packed with antioxidants that nourish, calm and revitalise dull-looking skin to combat the effects of daily blue light exposure. Vitamin E and C contain powerful anti-ageing properties which help uncover a more youthful appearance. If you don’t already use them (and we highly advised you do) SPF creams and serums with zinc oxide protect our skin from harsh UV rays and blue light emissions that we are exposed to every day.

Incorporate gentle movements and stretches to keep you nimble and try to factor in short walks to get as much fresh air as you can. Therefore, as we steer towards a progressively digital world and continue to live in lockdown that has us glued to our screens, we offer some tips to help you reduce your screen time and exposure to blue light, in hopes to avoid the feeling of digital fatigue:

3. Master the night-time wind-down routine – consciously set aside time in the evening to wind down before heading to bed, ideally 1-2 hours. Try to steer away from digital devices during this time, to allow your mind, eyes and body to completely relax and de-stress. Fill your ‘Me Time’ by reading a book, writing a journal of what went well during the day, listening to a relaxation playlist or submerging in a hot bath with bath salts and essential oils designed to soothe, such as lavender and chamomile.

The Bases of Beauty By Sophie Paravicini Skincare and makeup shouldn’t always be treated as two separate entities, especially when it comes to laying the foundations of your makeup in order to achieve a flawless finish. Makeup Artist Sophie Paravicini talks us through the products that should have a secured place within your routine and at the start of every makeup appointment, to ensure a glowing complexion and wearable durability.

1. PRIME TIME Priming and prepping your skin is vital to achieving your desired finished look. It is most important for giving your makeup longevity and staying power - as well as keeping your skin hydrated and preventing your foundation becoming dry and patchy, which unfortunately can often happen in the colder months. As we age, our skin struggles to produce its own moisture, so the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base is my go-to product to give my skin the little boost it needs. Infused with Shea Butter and Vitamins B and E, this primer doubles up as both a moisturiser and primer; making it super nourishing. It’s definitely one that will leave your skin feeling supple, plump and hydrated as well as smelling heavenly.

2 . L AY I N G T H E F O U N D AT I O N S Choosing the right foundation throughout the winter months can be tricky as you want the coverage without looking ‘cakey’. This can be achieved with the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation. Exactly what it says in the name, it’s a cocktail of vitamins and antioxidants to brighten the skin and protect it from the cold weather. It is designed to even out redness and pigmentation, boost tired skin and keep your face looking hydrated, dewy and naturally healthy. IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream Original SPF 50+ | 32ml | £32 | Available at www.boots.com

Another favourite of mine is the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50. I can’t stress enough that even in the winter months it is important to wear SPF! Just because we can’t see the sun beaming as much as it does in the summer, does not mean it is not emitting those nasty UV rays that age us. This foundation has a fuller coverage than the Healthy Mix Serum but still gives a natural finish. It is full of anti-aging peptides, vitamins, antioxidants and is designed for someone looking for hydrated, glowing skin that wants to colour correct any redness and smooth the look of pores. Not forgetting to make our eyes bright and beautiful with Sarah Chapman Eye Insurance SPF 30. A lightweight, protective tint for the eye area to help lift and illuminate!

Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base | 50ml | £44.50 | Available at www.bobbibrown.co.uk Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation |30ml | £10.99 Available at www.bourjois.com

I love the versatility of a liquid highlighter as you can apply it on its own, on top of makeup, on those high points or even mix in with your foundation to make your very own dewiness cocktail. My liquid highlighter favourites are between the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter or Iconic London’s Illuminators. The Hollywood Flawless Filter gives a slightly more natural, soft-focus glow and the look of healthy, radiant skin. The Iconic Illuminator is more for someone looking to sparkle! Both can be turned from day-to-night and intensified by adding a pop of powder highlighter over the top.

Cuffs ‘n’ Collars

Every dinner party, gathering or social event is different, but what remains the same is the fact you want to avoid a dress code dilemma. Whether it’s for the office, brunch date or evening wear, you must always dress to impress. This year, instead of chasing trends, find a shirt (or three) that you can always rely on to boost your style. It can be difficult to differentiate between the many styles, patterns and fits available on the market today and of course, which will suit your personality best. To help you narrow it down, we advise that when choosing your desired fit, you look for high-quality collars with removable collar stays to avoid bobbling and indentations that entry-level shirts often present. Be aware of the stitching, ensuring the shirt has a beautiful finish and buttons that have been tightly sewn to the placket.

“The difference between style and fashion is quality” — Giorgio Armani As for style, look for shirts that give your wardrobe a debonair finish and bring class to even the simplest jean and jacket combo. For the more flamboyant gentlemen, search for patterns and colours to make the shirt the statement piece of your outfit. Here at Beautiful South, we’ve selected a handful to treat yourself to this winter.

Woven using two-fold 140s Egyptian Giza yarn, the semi-cutaway collar shirt from Charles Trywhitt is unmistakable in its quality and comfortable for all-day wear. Its luxury features include complimentary brass collar stays and heat-sealed shanked buttons, which have a special thread wrapped around them to make the fastening extra secure. The beauty of the Scarlet Chain from Gresham Blake is that it can be dressed both up and down, pair with crease-free pair of dark wool suit trousers for an evening look or match with navy chinos and trainers for a more casual style, now available to pre order.

ombining the colours, shapes and styles of old and new creates an eclectic and unique style in your home. Blending modern trends with antique-inspired pieces produces a space that evolves and adapts with your life. There is something special and comforting about a room which brings you both nostalgia and style. From brass radiators and antique drawers to sleek armchairs and statement lighting, merging a time period with contemporary is exciting to create. It can require a critical eye and attention to detail. If you’re looking to enhance this style in your home, then follow Beautiful South Magazine’s essential guide on how to.

Antiques Antiques are the backbone of any vintage homes. Regardless of which decade is your personal favourite, they are the key pieces that help cement the vintage feel in your design. As a rule, if you don’t think the piece will stand up to daily wear and tear, keep looking for a more efficient option. When selecting antiques for your home, pay special attention to the weight and sturdiness of the piece. Heaviness is a sign that the antique was made from real, natural materials. When you do find antiques that fit the bill, make this the focal point of the room. Putting a true antique into this role will help set the tone for the rest of your room. If you are on the hunt for some new antiques, we are lucky enough to have some brilliant antique shops in the local area. Our current favourite is Heritage Antiques in Chichester.

“To make your room appear bigger, decorating your wall with mirrors is a great method to add depth and space.”

Textures Welcoming a variety of textures such as leather, faux-fur, wool, silk, and linen will help to create an exciting and unique living environment. Whilst worn and aged pieces are beautiful and historic, it’s important not to go overboard and mix them alongside smoother and unblemished textures. For example, place a mirrored tray on top of a worn, timber coffee table. Or, a velvet cushion on-top of a distressed leather chair. Introducing such textures creates a more dynamic style in your home. Beautiful South is particularly enjoying textured lighting at the moment. Oliver Bonas is currently stocking a variety of different velvet tasselled lamps, which add a real statement to a room.

Walls Adorning your walls with pictures, paintings, and mirrors can be a brilliant way to achieve this interior look. Why not try adding a display of images on one of your walls, mixing and matching different bronze rimmed frames and ornate dusty copper frames. Here you can frame some of your most cherished memories for all to see. Pairing these against a contemporary coloured wall such as a pastel pink or olive green will create the perfect contrast. Or, decorating with artwork and paintings lends the opportunity to merge different styles. For example, British artist Luke Edward Hall’s paintings are influenced by Grecian-Roman sculptures, yet are eclectically painted with a bright, modern twist. To make your room appear bigger, decorating your wall with mirrors is a great method to add depth and space. Anthropologie has a whole host of gorgeous, antique-inspired mirrors and our current favourite is the Gleaming Primrose Mirror.

Statement Tables Having a statement dining room table or coffee table acts as a natural centrepiece for a room. Social events conjure around tables, from latenight dinner parties with loved ones to our new working from home environments; we spend so much time at them, so it is wise to invest properly. Whether you’d like to add something rustic or contemporary, it’s important to find a table that suits your needs, style and captures your heart. Beautiful South loves the Mid-century modern style, which remains a timeless trend year after year. Mid-century modern is a brilliant way to bring both modern and vintage into your space, pairing the decor with earthy green and emerald hues. The Conran Shop currently has an array of tables in this style, with our particular favourite being the Solo Oblong Table in Walnut. Paring the table with mix-matched dining room chairs helps create an eye-catching, adaptable and timeless space.

Colours and Patterns Colour themes and patterns are great ways to drive home vintage aesthetics. There’s nothing like polka dots to transport you instantly back to the 1950s, or rich reds to take you to the Victorian era. Immerse yourself in nostalgia by opting for the right palettes and patterns. Why not be bold, and introduce something new to your home? Opt for warm tangerine and pumpkin hues, or midnight blues and navys.

I love the three-dimensional aspect of flying. I love the freedom of being up there in that vast, limitless sky. I love breaking through thick cloud into a world of deep blue, far from the humdrum of everyday life. I love that every flight is different. I love the risk involved. I love that it challenges me. And I love the fact it makes everything seem possible.

- Mandy Hickson

andy Hickson is certainly no ordinary woman, as a tall attractive (6ft) blond with a gregarious and warm personality, she makes her mark on everyone she encounters. Her positive can-do attitude has helped her to achieve many of her dreams, including being one of the first female fighter pilots in the RAF flying a Tornado on the front line, completing three tours of duty and 45 missions over Iraq.

“What had drawn me to the RAF was that it seemed I could be myself, being gregarious and loud never seemed to be a problem. In fact, it appeared to help. I didn’t have to pretend to be something I wasn’t. I didn’t have to be a pretty girl wearing high heels and make-up. I could be true to myself. I fitted in, and I relished the camaraderie.”

“All that training, all the heartache of not quite making the grade, the battles to prove myself, the sheer hard work and mind-twisting learning curves and struggles to find my way in the squadron, it was worth every single second,” commented Mandy.

Mandy Hickson’s book ‘An Officer. Not a Gentleman’ is available on Amazon £9.99

Mandy’s fascinating career has been full of high points and great challenges including becoming the Squadron’s Combat Survival and But as a woman stepping into a traditionally male role, she had Rescue Officer, working closely with the US, instructing Squadron many mountains to climb to achieve her dreams. Joining the RAF members on Escape and Evasion tactics. in 1994, Mandy has over 25 years experience within aviation and was only the second “THE SHEER Throughout her time at the RAF, Mandy was the woman to fly the Tornado GR4 fighter jet only female aircrew and encountered some sexism operationally. he Star & Garter Country Inn is a charming flint-and-brick pub in village of East Dean. We arrived at the Star & Garter in the evening and as we stepped inside, we were greeted by host Will and Manager Jim who reassuringly advised us how the pub operates within the new government guidelines. The pubs interior instantly set a great atmosphere with its twinkly lights, church benches and lit stove; creating a comfortable, cosy setting from the outset. We were shown to one of three 3 spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms within the pub which are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness. Our large bedroom kept a grand king-sized 4 poster bed, lovely bathroom with a freestanding big bath (perfect for a relaxing soak), Nespresso coffee machine, serving Hampshire roasted Mozzo coffee, and bottled water. Aligning with the pub’s ethos, the amenities inside each room were all local and eco-friendly, including sustainable facial tissues and loo roll and natural toiletries from New Forest Aromatics. Each room had a distinctive character with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. I greatly appreciated the excellent extras touches that each room offered; specifically,

the picnic hamper which can be organised as a packed lunch for when you are out exploring the surrounding deer-populated woods. Maps and walking routes are also provided with a list of attractions to see and do. After a quick spruce up, we made our way to our dinner reservation. The outstanding menu reflected the pubs love for seasonal British produce. The pub and its sister brewhouses and restaurants, who trade under the Thomas Babb Brewing Company, all strive to reduce food miles with a ‘field to fork’ approach and design their seasonal dishes using, whenever possible, the best local ingredients.

we feasted upon a Butcher’s cut steak, cooked to absolute perfection. The fresh fish is sourced from Fresh from the Boat Emsworth and vegetables from Richard Foot in Chidham. Goodwood Estate, M R Starr of Emsworth and Southdowns Venison provide the Meat and Game and the Dairy and Cheese celebrates local producers including Hampshire Cheese, IOW Cheese and Bookham Harrison Farms. I was so pleased to see my favourite Rosé, AIX Rosé 2018 Coteaux d’Aix en Provence, served by the glass as my partner enjoyed a pint of local Ale. For starter, we enjoyed delicious Braised Short

Rib of Beef, served with celeriac remoulade and watercress for £7. The grilled Sardines Escabeche for £7.50 were sat upon endive and horseradish – ‘so good, I could have eaten them all again’. For mains, we feasted upon a Butcher’s cut steak, sold at market price and cooked to absolute perfection. This came with portobello mushroom, slow-roasted tomato, hand-cut chips and the option of peppercorn sauce, blue cheese, chimichurri or garlic butter, which we opted for. The taste of the pineapple glazed Confit Pork Belly was truly outstanding. For £16.50, this was accommodated with creamed potato, beetroots, carrots and finished with a red wine reduction. As avid cheese-lovers, we chose to share the Four Cheese Board for dessert and a glass of Taylors Late-Bottled Vintage Port. At, £9.50 this board contained local cheeses, quince jelly, grapes, celery and rye crackers – a delicious end to an absolutely exquisite meal. After a peaceful night’s sleep, we lined our stomachs with a breakfast of smashed avocado and poached eggs on sourdough toast and a full English breakfast, which were included in our stay. As we left to head home, we admired the pubs’ picturesque surroundings of the famous Goodwood Estate. It’s hard to find a flaw for The Star & Garter; an idyllic, charming and welcoming place for those seeking a traditional, luxurious country getaway; to enjoy a delicious meal or a relaxing overnight stay.

‘Farm Gate to your Plate’

Fresh, seasonal, ethical and local produce

sold at new open-air Farm Market

other Valley is a family-run farm and traditional butchery who aim to reconnect the local community with high-welfare, fresh and tasty food from the farm and other various local artisan producers. Based in the village of Rogate near Petersfield, Hampshire, the farms online butchers shop sells some of the finest, free-range, grass-fed and ethically-raised meat in the UK. Farmer and Business Owner, Shon, was born on the farm, the very house he still lives in now. After graduating from the Royal Berkshire College of Agriculture, Shon came back to Rother Valley to

set up the first line of Aberdeen Angus beef to sell to Waitrose. Since it began, part of the farms’ remit is to help preserve the environment and to date, is the biggest conversion the Soil Association has seen, with much of the grazing land working as an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) or an ESA (Environmentally Sensitive Area) and Organic. The farm animals are grazed on the Thorney Island marshlands which is high tier environmental ground, SSSI and supports the bird reserve on the island and at Chichester Harbour. Through the management and keeping this ground organic, the farm helps improve the island’s biodiversity including ground nesting birds and many unusual plant species. The farm’s free-range, high welfare meat is available via their online butchers’ shop, weekly Farm Market and in local restaurants and pubs.

Safety is also paramount to the farm. In line with the current restrictions, the farm now offers a contact-free delivery service within 23 miles of the farm offices and a zero physical contact click & collection service. In recent months, the farm launched their Farm Gate Farmers’ Market; an open-air, socially distanced market which is COVID-safe and held every Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. Initially set up as a way to support the business, local enterprises, and the community during the COVID-19 lockdown, the successful market now offers a variety of products from local suppliers including an artisan Coffee and Cake stand, Hand-cut flowers, Bread, Pastries, Antiques, Chutneys, Fruit and Vegetables, Milk, Cheese and Ice Cream.

“The farm helps improve the island’s biodiversity including group nesting birds and many unusual plant species.” The online shop and market also sell a variety of fantastic South African products including freshcut biltong, boerewors, melkterts and more. The farm also works in conjunction with Hill Ash Estate, who sell their superb ‘really local and really loved’ game at the market and on the farm’s website. As well as selling the farms own highwelfare, grass-fed meat, the market holds a ‘Fresh Fish Friday’ every week, which sells locally caught fresh fish. Locals are invited to attend the farms’ courtyard and barn every weekend to browse the fresh and seasonal produce. As the majority of the market is covered, people are welcome to come rain or shine, to purchase local delights or enjoy a coffee with friends at the favourite local coffee company’s stand God Save the Bean. Visit Farm Gate Market, every Friday and Saturday | 9 am - 3 pm | Sandilands Farm, Habin Hill, Rogate, Petersfield GU31 5HU or browse the online shop and order your contact free delivery or collection via www.rothervalleyfarm.com. A stay at the historical Hotel

in the heart of Windsor Beautiful South’s Lily Lloyd enjoys a night at a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Windsor… The grand Castle Hotel sits elegantly within the quintessentially English town of Windsor, in the Royal County of Berkshire. As my friend Arabella and I made our way to our stay, we were amazed by the rich history that surrounds the hotel, including the famous Windsor Castle and St. George’s Chapel, which are both a short walk away. The hotel is steeped in fascinating history and has been dedicated to exceptional hospitality for more than 500 years. Dating back to 1528, the property began life as the Mermaid Inn before it became one of the finest boutique hotels in the area. The property was fully renovated in 2015 and Castle Hotel restored and modernised the interiors to pay homage to its rich Georgian history with a refined take on contemporary design. Upon arrival, a parking space was kindly reserved for us within the hotel’s car park. However, if you’re travelling by train, the town has excellent

connections to London Heathrow and direct trains from London Waterloo and London Paddington. Reassuringly, the hotel holds an ALLSAFE label verified by Clifton and hand sanitiser was provided as we entered the hotel which operates with a one-way system, as well as a ‘Protection Kit’ for guests in each room; giving confidence that measures are in place to keep COVID-safe. Once we checked in, we were greeted with fresh fruit and pastry treats inside our room. The hotel’s 108-rooms and suites sophisticated taupe décor is accented with original features, modern cuttingedge technologies and amenities including luxurious White Company toiletries. After a day of exploring the historical town and building a hearty appetite, we were eager to make our dinner reservation at the hotel’s highly

regarded Marco Pierre White Restaurant. For starter, Arabella was excited to see her favourite French Onion Soup on the menu for £7.95. I enjoyed the Wheeler’s Crispy Calamari for £9.50 which came with sauce tartare and fresh lemon. For mains, we both decided to feast upon steak because after all, you cannot attend a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse and not order a steak! I opted for an 8oz Ribeye Steak for £27.50 whilst my friend chose a 6oz Fillet Steak pricing at £27.95. All cuts came from the finest quality grass-fed Campbell Brothers beef and are served with roasted vine tomatoes and chunky chips with an add-on option of Bearnaise or Peppercorn sauce for an extra £3.50. We both also shared a green side salad with our favourite truffle dressing priced at £3.50. To complement our meal, we shared a bottle of Los Romeros, Chile Sauvignon Blanc which cost £27. Dessert presented us with many sweet options. After some debating, we went for Mr White’s Classic Cheesecake with fresh blueberry sauce at £7.50 and three scoops of lemon, mango and raspberry Sorbet for £5.50. The next morning after a soothing night’s sleep against the bed’s duck feather pillows, we made our way down to breakfast before our 11 am checkout. To satisfy my sweet tooth I went for the continental breakfast which included toast with jars of jams and honey, fresh fruit and pastries whilst Arabella enjoyed a traditional Full English Breakfast. If you prefer to lay in or stay in, breakfast (or dinner) in bed is available via a room service menu. As our stay at the Castle Hotel Windsor came to an end, we were left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and safe to say, very full! From the delicious food, exemplary interior and relaxing amenities at the Castle Hotel, I would highly recommend a stay to ensure a memorable trip to this delightful English town.

creating a permanent village shop again. As they say: ‘history repeats itself ’ as we believe that there was a shop in the tea room building in the past.” The couple decided to convert half of the tea room into a permanent village community shop/ deli that can also access a huge range of unique and high-quality products, including even preordered fresh-caught fish coming up from the coast every day. “We also work in partnership with Delishop, and through us, our customers can access five thousand products that can be delivered directly to them, which is a very modern approach to a traditional village shop, as well as having

Through Simon’s connection and friendship with TV chef and food writer Lawrence Keogh, who recently had a kidney transplant, the couple have chosen The National Kidney Federation as their chosen charity to support, organising various Guest Chef events and other charity evenings to help raise funds for this worthy cause. “We would also like to do an Experimental Dishes Evening at The Greyfriar, a collaboration between our chefs and customers, where it will be all about getting their feedback to create new and exciting dishes,” said Simon. “Norma’s Spanish influence has also helped us to offer unique food experiences, including getting her father over from Spain to cook a huge traditional Paella, which was very well received. Jane Devonshire, our local Masterchef winner, also came and did a Guest Chef GlutenFree event which was very popular.”

imon Brencher’s life journey has been a rich and exciting adventure to date. From performing dangerous stunts as a comedy clown in a French Circus to following his dream to be an actor, Simon found himself drawn into the hospitality world. “I fell into hospitality as a way of supplementing my terrible circus wages and enjoyed the industry, and met my wife when we both worked in the same restaurant.” Together with his Spanish wife Norma, they run The Greyfriar, a traditional village pub and Cassandra’s Cup tea room in the heart of Jane Austen’s village of Chawton. “When the Covid crisis hit earlier this year, we were keen to do something to provide additional support to the community and opened a popup shop from our tea room. With running two food-related businesses we have been working in partnership with many local food suppliers who provide the best quality regional produce, and we wanted to be able to continue to support them, while at the same time provide a convenient and safe click and collect service to the community,” commented Simon. “We were overwhelmed with the response, and Norma came up with the idea of

a good supply of fresh mainly organic produce and groceries in-store.” Simon had spent many years working in various London restaurants for renowned chefs including running two restaurants for Gordon Ramsey, and working with chef TV presenter Lawrence Keogh and Michelin Star chef Atul Kochhar.

“Norma’s Spanish influence has also helped us to offer unique food experiences.” “Norma and I always wanted to own our own place, and we bought The Greyfriar three years ago. The community has made us feel so welcome, and we have made many friends,” said Simon. “I don’t miss London at all and love the village, community and Hampshire.”

2020 is the year of the Graze Board What was traditionally a fancy platter seen at weddings and parties has turned into a statement course on the menu to enjoy any day of the week!

llie, founder of Frosting and Flowers started making graze boards in lockdown after helping her boyfriend’s mum organise baby showers. Soon, friends and family were requesting Ellie’s grazes and her hobby grew into a business! Frosting and Flowers is a service which provides graze tables, graze board, cakes, table displays and party planning and can be found on Instagram via @frostingandflowers. The versatility of Graze boards is what makes them so special. Be it a starter, dessert or nibble, the beauty is that no graze board is the same and each board can be filled with all of your favourite delights. There are no rules on savoury or sweet either – put your own spin on your board by making a pavlova graze or vegan graze, or filling it with sweets and chocolate – the choice is yours! Images on this page from Frosting & Flowers - Instagram: @frostingandflowers.

Traditionally, the trick to a great graze board is to get a good balance of everything. From cheeses to cured meats, fruit and vegetables, as well as dips, relishes, olives and nuts – the possibilities of ingredients to include are endless. The team at Beautiful South have tried and tested a few musthaves to steer you in the right direction to making your perfect board. Firstly, choose your main components, cheese and meat. There are so many hearty Hampshire cheeses to choose from, but we recommend sticking to around three. For your creamy cheese, bake the soft British Tunworth, a unique Camembert from Hampshire Cheeses based in Basingstoke. Pair with slices of freshly baked loaf to dip into the oozy centre and top with cranberry sauce.

“the beauty is that no graze board is the same and each board can be filled with all of your favourite delights.”

To fill the smaller gaps on your board, add in some dried berries, fresh fruit and vegetables including grapes, cucumbers and carrots. There are countless farm shops and delicatessen’s throughout Hampshire and West Sussex to stock up on all the graze board extras, all selling high-quality seasonal produce including fresh fruit and veg, freshly baked bread, preserves and chutneys, crackers and biscuits.

Finally, voted the Best British Cheddar in 2017 at the prestigious Quality Food Awards, the West Sussex based Brookham & Harrison Sussex Charmer has the perfect combination of a mature cheddar’s creaminess and the zing of an Italian Style Hard Cheese.

“There are so many hearty Hampshire cheeses to choose from, but we recommend sticking to around three.”

And whilst you’re there, we also recommend their Southdown Butter, specially aged and packed, this butter is a Great Taste Award winner for seven years in a row! For your dried and cured meats, opt for a variety of quality cured whole muscle selected cuts and salamis from local butcheries such as Hampshire Salami Co., who’s products can be found at various locations across Hampshire including Stansted Park Farmshop in Rowlands Castle and Holybourne Shop in Alton.

Whatever you choose to include in your graze board merrymaking, the lovely array of little bites will be so inviting, your guests won’t know what to try first!

The Kimpton Apple Press is a family-owned independent fruit press run from Kimpton Manor Farm Yard, on the border of Hampshire and Wiltshire. At 25%ABV, the Apple Press makes for the perfect drink to enjoy with ice, mixed with Prosecco or neat to warm the cockles at the coldest time of the year.

Festive Drinks Trolley Rather than listening out for the bells of Santa’s sleigh, imagine the tinkling of the glasses on the drinks trolley on a winters evening. Things are ever so slightly different this year, so we’re showing you how to bring the bar back home with a festive drinks trolley.

From art-deco to antique-deco, retro to glam; drinks trolleys come in all shapes and sizes, with a variety of classic and eccentric styles. Whichever you choose, a stylish serving cart is a great addition to every home and will be a statement piece for any events, parties or nights-in for many years to come. To assemble your trolley, start with glassware. The top level should feature your decanter and a few champagne glasses, cocktail glasses and crystal cut tumblers. Try to mix and match colours to create a vintage vibe and tie them all in with hints of gold. The key to a smooth sailing trolley it to have everything within reach, so set up a chopping board with a small knife, lemons and limes to keep on the top level. On the board, place your key equipment such as a cocktail shaker and double jigger.

“A stylish serving cart is a great addition to every home and will be a statement piece for any events, parties or nights-in.” As for the drinks themselves, feature two or three ‘statement’ drinks, such as a classic bottle of champagne or a decanter of port and then place the other beverages strategically on the tray below. We’ve selected a handful of drinks to include as the main components of your alcohol haven, all pressed, brewed or distilled locally.

AS SOON AS YOU HIT THE ACCELERATOR IT SURGES FORWARD. IT’S HUGE FUN AND EXACTLY AS A MINI SHOULD BE! minutes. Alternatively, a rapid public charger will do the job in just 36 minutes.

as easy as The MINI Electric is based on the familiar three-door hatchback and is distinguished by embossed logos on the side sills, tailgate and front radiator grille and has a unique wheel design to look like a plug. Inside the MINI Electric, much of the interior is carried over from the regular MINI and is just as classy as you’d expect and feels well-built, with lots of soft-touch materials and retro design features. One feature that’s unique to the Electric is the 5.5 digital display in place of conventional dials behind the steering wheel. This provides the usual necessary information such as speed as well as details on the battery’s charge levels and range remaining. Selecting which MINI Electric is best for you is as easy as 1, 2, 3. The line-up is made up of Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. If you want more equipment or more luxury, you simply move up a trim. Plenty of kit comes as standard, including a 6.5inch central touchscreen with navigation, along with MINI Online, Apple CarPlay, full LED lights,

auto lights and wipers, three driving modes and dual-zone automatic air-conditioning. There is just the one powertrain offered on the MINI Electric – a 32.6kWh battery pack paired to a 184hp electric motor and maximum torque of 270Nm. It’s the same powertrain offered in the BMW i3, but here it powers the front rather than rear wheels. The official range is given as 141 miles, but a more realistic 120 miles should be expected, depending on the weather. To get the most from the electric motor’s torque, you’ll need to master the various driving modes - ‘Normal’, ‘Green’ and ‘Sport’. The digital dashboard provides information on the current flow of energy and the range, as well as offering ways of increasing range by deactivating comfort functions or boosting energy regeneration. Using a domestic three-pin socket, the MINI Electric will take around 12 hours to charge to 80% capacity. If you have a wallbox fitted at home, the charging time falls to three hours and 12

In true MINI fashion, the Electric feels nimble and quick, particularly around town. Like other EVs, there’s no waiting for the revs to build or the automatic gearbox to drop down – as soon as you hit the accelerator it surges forward with next to no noise. It’s huge fun and exactly as a MINI should be. The steering is superb, and the MINI Electric’s low centre of gravity means it feels extremely agile. This is an electric car for people who enjoy driving. The MINI Electric is a ‘happy feeling’ little EV. It delivers on pretty much everything we like about a standard MINI but has zero emissions. It has funky looks, is very easy to drive, plus it’s quiet, has a high-quality interior and a very simple trim line-up. By Wayne Gorrett

Ones To Watch: The Luxury Watch Guide Throughout the madness of 2020, one positive note that shines through is that generally, our expenditure has been somewhat low compared to previous years thanks to cancelled holidays, race days and soirées. This year has therefore been a great time to save those extra expenses and finally get around to invest something you’ve always

Ladies Watches Traditionally women’s watches leant towards a jewellery-like style. But for the modern-day female, watches are a statement piece that rightly demonstrates independence and empowerment whilst also elevating the simplest of outfits; just like a handbag or pair of shoes do so well. The Tag Heuer Aquaracer takes authentic, yet technically advanced glamour to the extreme. This diamond-enriched, Swiss-engineered, life-proof and reliable watch is of timeless style, ideal for all occasions, ready for every challenge. Tag Heuer Aquaracer - silver lacquered dial with plated rose gold (5N) details and 11 shimmering diamonds (0.107 CT) in slender 32mm steel case. £2,400 available at www.tagheuer.com

dreamt of – a luxury statement watch that will turn heads. We as consumers are spoilt for choice when it comes to watches which can, in turn, feel slightly overwhelming, so our watch guide is here to make the decision a little easier by highlighting this year’s top luxury timepieces for both males and females.

Don’t be afraid to go bigger and bolder with the stunning Piaget Altiplano Watch. This unisex watch brings exceptional elegance to every day and features a beautiful blue dial. With a 38 mm rose gold case and diamond-set bezel and record-breaking ultra-thin movements, this is a luxury watch that is a cut above the rest.

Gentlemen’s Watches A watch isn’t just an accessory, it’s an extension of you. So, what does your watch say about you? Do you opt for convenience over style? Are you ostentatious over modesty? Whatever your preference, there are 100’s of luxury brands that are fighting for their spot on your wrist, so we’ve done the hard work and selected a few to look out for this winter.

Zero West - LS-1 Land Speed (1927) 44mm with 25 jewels and 22/22mm custom handmade leather strap. £3,300 available at www.zerowest.watch

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris - automatic stainless steel 41mm automatic self-winding. £7,000 available at www.jaeger-lecoultre.com
