Installation and maintenance
Stone tiles Blend from different boxes Stone is a natural product and variations in colour and surface finish are common. Variation is part of the beauty of stone. When laying stone, never work from just one crate or pallet. Open several crates or pallets and work from each to blend variations to achieve a pleasing result. Pre-Seal Many stones will benefit from pre-sealing prior to laying, especially light coloured stones, more porous stones and in dirty working environments. Prepare the substrate Stone tiles must be laid on a solid substrate, such as a concrete slab, that is both level and free from movement. We recommend stone tiles be laid on a base of concrete that is at least 75mm for normal foot traffic. For driveways the base should be a minimum of 100mm.
Allow for expansion joints Expansion joints for both the substrate and the tiles are necessary to prevent cracking due to movement. Any stone laid against a pool edge or house must also have an expansion joint at this point. Drainage, appropriate to your particular application, is an important consideration to prevent moisture related issues. Please refer to the Australian Standards. Select the correct adhesive Selection of the correct adhesive depends upon both the tile and the substrate. All our stone has been tested by our adhesive manufacturers. Ask a Beaumont staff member for their recommendation on the most suitable adhesive. Adhesive should be applied to the back of the tile with a notched trowel and ideally back-buttered for even coverage.

Cut the Stone It is likely that cuts will need to be made and we recommend the use of a wet saw for high quality edges. Grout Grout should be chosen to blend with the colour of the stone. Apply so that no voids are created and sponge off residue with water as you work. Final clean Once the grout has set, clean again with a pH neutral cleaner prior to sealing. Sealing Sealing with a penetrating sealer is essential to assist future cleaning and longevity. We only recommend a high quality penetrating sealer, such as Miracle 511 H20.
Stone pavers The substrate Stone pavers may be laid as per stone tiles or can be laid on a 100mm bed of compacted road base plus 40mm of washed bedding sand.
Pre-Seal Many stones will benefit from pre-sealing prior to laying, especially light coloured stones, more porous stones and in dirty working environments.

Drainage Drainage, appropriate to your particular application, is an important consideration to prevent moisture related issues. Please refer to the Australian Standards. Leave space between the pavers to allow for expansion.
The gaps Once laid and dry, sweep jointing sand into the gaps. Sealing Sealing with a penetrating sealer is essential to assist future cleaning and longevity. We only recommend a high quality penetrating sealer, such as Miracle 511 H20. Note: There are special instructions which must be followed when laying Basalt.

Special laying instructions Extra care needs to be taken when laying Basalt. Here is a short rundown on the installation advice: > Basalt needs to be completely sealed on all sides before it is laid. > A rapid setting adhesive for moisture sensitive stone should be used. We recommend CTA Opticure. > When laying basalt, use a back butter technique to cover the entire surface. If glue is applied in blobs it may seep through and alter the colour on the front. > Dark grout should be applied to the grout lines plus a thin application across the whole tile. If it is only applied to the edges, a picture frame effect will occur. > It is recommended to apply a final coat of sealer once the stone has been laid and is completely cleaned. See specific laying instructions on page 3 for full details. 4
We insist that all natural stone is sealed to protect and extend the life of the stone. Sealing stone gives it the absolute best protection against stains and dirt and makes cleaning much easier.
When sealing, the surface must be clean and dry. Never seal outdoors if rain is predicted within 12 hours. Never seal in extreme heat or windy conditions.

Cleaning tips for Natural Stone
Tips to keep your stone looking good for the long term Outdoors

Tips to preserve your stone at home
Keep in mind that cleaning products that contain lemon, vinegar or other acidic products may dull or etch the surface of calcareous stones. Some scouring powders or creams contain abrasives that may scratch certain natural stone products.
Avoid Heat: While many stones can withstand heat, the use of trivets or mats is recommended. Mats/rugs: Mats or areas rugs inside and outside and entrance will help minimise the sand, dirt and grit that may scratch the stone floor. Be sure that the underside of the mat or rug is a slip resistant surface. Clean the mat or rug regularly.
• Granite • Limestone • Natural Stone • Quarry Tile • Porcelain Tile
• Marble • Travertine • Ceramic Tile • Grout
Spills: Blot the spill with a paper towel immediately. Don’t wipe the area, it will spread the spill. Flush the area thoroughly with a soft cloth. Repeat as necessary.
