The Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors (MSWPS) is proud to present its 116th Annual Exhibition, Changing Perspectives 2025, celebrating the creativity and diversity of contemporary women artists.
Running from September 24 to October 5 at the Victorian Artists Society Galleries in East Melbourne (VAS), this highly anticipated exhibition showcases new works created over the past two years by MSWPS members. Disciplines include painting, printmaking, and sculpture, with mediums ranging from oil and acrylic to bronze, ceramic, timber, glass, and more.
An online catalogue will accompany the exhibition.
The MSWPS website also provides a platform to promote member profiles, artworks, and events throughout the year.
Founded in 1902 by former students of the National Gallery of Victoria Art School, MSWPS has a proud history of supporting women artists through exhibitions, community, and advocacy. Notable past members include Violet Teague, A.M.E. Bale,
Ethel Carrick Fox, Sybil Craig, and Valda Cuming OAM.
The Society remains grateful for the generous bequest of sculptor Ola Cohn, President of MSWPS for 15 years until her passing in 1964. Her East Melbourne home, the Ola Cohn House, continues to be a vibrant hub for life drawing sessions, committee meetings, and monthly gatherings. Its leafy sculpture garden also provides the perfect setting for the annual winter and Christmas luncheons.
Beyond exhibitions, members enjoy train and bus trips to regional galleries, paint-outs, and gallery visits—activities that foster lasting friendships and the exchange of ideas, so vital for artists who often work in solitude.
Through its exhibitions, events, and strong community, MSWPS continues to bring women artists together to share their work with audiences across Australia and beyond.

This year’s exhibition will be assessed by a distinguished judging panel.
Kelly Gellatly, chair of the Sheila Foundation, Kelly is passionate about encouraging broad access to the arts, particularly contemporary practice, and supporting women’s leadership in the sector.
Joanna Bosse, curator at Bayside Gallery since 2016, has also held curatorial roles at the Ian Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne, and Queensland Art Gallery. In 2010, she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to research the collaborative ways in which museums work with indigenous artists and their communities in the United States and Canada.

Kelly Gellatly and Joanna Bosse will and Joanna Bosse will award the following Prizes: award the Prizes:
