Learn how to spend less on gas from Metro and the Automobile Club of Southern California With pump prices once again over $4 a gallon and more than 50 cents a gallon higher than they were in January, Metro and the Automobile Club of Southern California today joined forces to help teach drivers how to spend less on gas. Standing on the platform of the Metro Expo/ Vermont Station with some of the finest museums in the world just steps away, Metro’s Warren Morse urged L.A. residents to minimize their spring break and summer vacation dollars by picking up a $5 Day Pass and making easy-to-reach destinations on the Metro system part of their plans. “Four dollar a gallon gasoline is back and no one is happy about it,” Morse said. “But as gas gets more expensive we do have choices. So we invite everyone to begin spending vacation money on fun, rather than on gas, by exploring Los Angeles and all of its great entertainment on Metro. And for those who do choose to drive, our friends at AAA are here with suggestions for ways to squeeze more milage out of the gas we do buy." Steve Mazor, Chief Automotive Engineer for the Auto Club, explained why it's time for Los Angeles drivers to consider change. "Los Angeles gas prices have jumped in the last 10 years by 82 percent, while the median household income for Californians has gone up by just 16 percent," Mazor said. "But the good news is

“Water conservation needs to be a priority for us, and everyone else in our great state. We are happy to do our part.” The district has taken several other measures to conserve water in recent years and to limit its impact on the environment. Several schools and district buildings have been equipped with low-drip irrigation systems, drought-tolerant plants and landscape, and low-volume sinks and restrooms, district officials said. Most district schools feature advanced energy management systems for their heating and cooling units. Some of the other energyefficient features in buildings
include setback timers on thermostats, low-VOC, or volatile organic compounds, paints, recycled building materials, daylight and occupancy-sensored lighting, and low-energy light sources, district officials said. District officials also said they have made it a priority to significantly reduce the amount of paper it uses. The district has evolved to online documents and agendas, and often holds and encourages completely paperless meetings and workshops. In addition, the district opened a new compressed natural gas station earlier this year after receiving nearly $500,000 in grants. The CNG station will eliminate
an estimated 400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and save the district up to $40,000 in fuel and maintenance costs per year, district officials have said. “It’s been great to see our students, teachers, and staff be environmental leaders on our campuses and in our community,” Shawn said. “Their conservation and sustainability ideas and efforts have been remarkable.
