SURVIVOR ST
My husband of twenty-two years has been having an affair on and off marriage. This affair was devastating, heartbreaking, and sad, but most of all, what was to come in the years to follow made me question at times my sanity, my value, and my contributions to the family As the affair continued throughout the years, I was told time and time again it did not, and was not, happening He told me that things I read were not real, that things I saw with my own two eyes I did not see. I was at a point where I was so confused. I felt lost, hopeless, and was miserable. I begged to be able to talk to a therapist, but I was told that if I was going to seek help they would kick me out of the family.

There were multiple times in our marriage that I tried to leave, but I kept being drawn in by his lies and manipulation
My breaking point was a four-day period when I couldn’t call or talk to anyone, not even my mom. There was always someone by my side, twenty-four hours a day. When I finally had a few moments to myself I reached out to my mom, who had seen the abuse for years. She called my friend and asked him to help He tried taking me to the hospital, but because I was so afraid of my husband and his career, I would not go I agreed to go to the Beacon Center because it was 100% confidential and would not be reported, therefore not hurting my husband’s career.
When we arrived, I looked at the sign and it said it was for domestic violence and sexual abuse. We walked up to the door and I could not go in I said, “This is not me ” Those things are not happening to me, and I did not want to take resources away from someone who really needed it. After driving away, my friend received a call from the center and they asked to speak to me. I agreed to return to the center and I am so thankful I did. That day changed my life forever.
The counselor spoke to me about gaslighting. As she’s describing it to me, my heart sank. This was what was happening to me all these years She told me about manipulation being a form of emotional and mental abuse I felt relieved that I finally had someone confirm I was not crazy. They offered me counseling, a safe place to stay, and twenty-four-hour access to someone to talk to.
The Beacon Center has helped me to understand that mental and emotional abuse is real. It is harmful Some survive; some do not It does hurt It is dangerous I am so grateful for my family, my friends, and the Beacon Center I am finally starting to be myself again I am in a healthy relationship. I am happy.

BECOMING A SPONSOR
Corporate partners are a vital part of our organization. The generosity of our community ensures that victims and survivors have access to services to help keep them safe while attempting to leave an abusive relationship. Without the Beacon Center, which provides shelter to clients at nocost, the community or clients themselves would have had to provide shelter in order to safely leave their abusive relationship. In 2024, this cost would have totaled approximately $289,700
Each year, Beacon Center engages new and returning sponsors to support our mission and events. Through corporate partnerships, businesses are able to support Beacon Center while gaining access to our sponsorship benefits.
Together, we can promote a positive brand image, increase brand awareness and help you achieve your company’s corporate social responsibility goals. We can also help your business reach a wider audience through event advertising, donation matching and promotional opportunities. Specific benefits awarded by each sponsorship level are outlined on the following page.
Tax Exempt Status: Beacon Center is a 501(c)3 Organization.
