Check out their lineup in the Bars & Bands section of this BeachLife, or on their website. Many exciting things are happening at Ricky T’s, owner Brad Piche tells BeachLife. They brought on a new head chef a few months ago, who has updated their menu with some fresh choices. Try the Seafood Fra Diablo: fresh black grouper chunks, fresh P.E.I. mussels, shrimp and sea scallops, sautéed with garlic and olive oil, in a spicy tomato sauce. Warms you up on a cool February night! This is a restaurant where they clearly take pride in great food and great service. Ricky T’s grouper is always fresh and locally sourced, and they have a true made-from-scratch kitchen. They serve a full breakfast daily, perfect to fortify yourself for a day at the beach. For something different, Brad suggests their Breakfast Pizza, which features a delicious sausage biscuit gravy and toppings like eggs and bacon.

Ricky T’s is located at 10601 Gulf Blvd. in Treasure Island. Their phone number is 727-363-7425. Visit their website at www.rickytsbarandgrille.com to see their menu and live music calendar. Heavenly Facials and Massage Therapy

Vincenza’s Holistic Spa cristina juska

If you are looking for a place you can go to get away from the stresses of daily life, even if only for a couple hours, Vincenza’s Holistic Spa in St. Petersburg is heaven-sent. Owner Vincenza, a licensed esthetician for more than 25 years, has added three talented massage therapists to her team, who love to pamper clients as much as she does. Trained in Milan, Italy as well as here in the U.S., Vincenza provides a “TRUE European facial” to help her clients look and feel their best. This type of facial includes quite a bit of effleurage, a form of massage that involves quick, circular stroking motions to help tone the muscles of the face and promote lymphatic drainage. During a luxurious hour-and-15-minute facial, Vincenza also applies about a dozen delicious-smelling concoctions from the French line Yon-Ka, including cleansers, masks and exfoliating AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) solutions. She has been using Yon-Ka products, which are all-natural and based on a proprietary blend of five healing essential oils, for 25 years, simply because they work! The products are exceptionally gentle and suitable for all skin types. The end result: smooth, baby soft, glowing skin! Be sure to ask about the Vincenza’s Best facial, which also includes a relaxing foot massage. In addition to the facial massage techniques and skin preparations used, Vincenza also performs thorough extractions—meaning she looks at your skin under a lighted magnifying glass, finds imperfections like white heads and other pore-clogging debris, and removes them using a thin, sterile needle. This method, when done by a seasoned professional like Vincenza, leaves no scars and allows your skin to heal naturally. At age 60, Vincenza knows that there is “no quick fix” to looking younger, no matter what the plastic surgeons in town would tell you. She believes in helping her clients to “age gracefully,” rather than fighting the aging process or trying to look much younger than they are. “Before you spend thousands on an invasive procedure with a doctor, come see me first,” she said. With regular facials every four to six weeks, a healthy diet and exercise, you may just love your skin so much that you decide against plastic surgery, or at least to postpone it for a few more years. Vincenza’s Holistic Spa is so named because they do truly take a holistic approach, meaning they treat the whole person, not just individual symptoms, in an attempt to help you achieve overall health and vitality. That’s where the massage therapists come in. Regular massage therapy, in addition to being a great way to pamper yourself, can actually help you manage chronic pain, improve circulation and sleep better at night, among other benefits. Reagan, Autumn and Kim each provide unique approaches to massage, to meet a variety of needs and preferences. No matter which therapist you book your massage with, you will notice that they, like Vincenza herself, really care about you and your wellbeing, and want you to have a wonderful experience each time you visit the spa. Reagan, who has been a licensed massage therapist for four years, specializes in decadent relaxation massages, using a combination of Swedish, Hawaiian and Thai techniques to help clients relax and destress. Reagan lives in Gulfport and thrives in the creative scene there. In addition to practicing massage therapy, she is also a karaoke DJ and lead singer in a rock band. Kim has been a licensed massage therapist for more than 22 years, and her area of expertise is neuromuscular therapy (NMT). Kim’s deep-tissue technique focuses on muscle origins and insertions, or the points where the muscles attach to the skeleton. By identifying these trigger points and applying pressure, the toxins built up in the muscle are released, providing healing and relief for injuries and European Facials • Massages • Chemical Peels chronic pain. In addition to decadent facials and massage, Vincenza’s Holistic Spa also offers an infrared sauna—the safest type of sauna, which can help you burn up to 600 calories in a 30-minute session. Situated in Vincenza’s private, outdoor Zen garden area, the sauna is a great way to prepare for your massage. Often, groups of friends or bridesmaids will book a “day of pampering,” in which they will take turns in the sauna, as well as getting facials, massages, manicures and pedicures. Vincenza will put out a beautiful spread of fruit and other healthy snacks for the group to nosh on as they relax in soft, fluffy bathrobes between spa services. She will even pour mimosas if you bring the champagne! When it’s time to give yourself the gift of self-care, your very first step should be to book a massage or facial (or both; package deals are available) at Vincenza’s Holistic Spa. But be warned…you will soon become more than a client, but rather, part of the family! They are located at 5234 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg, just minutes from the beaches. For a full list of services and pricing, please visit www.vincenzasholisticspa.com. To book your first appointment, call 727-600-9227. You’ll be glad you did!

Let’s Party!

Shark Tales Celebrates 1st Anniversary cristina juska

Come on out to Shark Tales Waterfront Restaurant on Friday, February 17, to celebrate their One Year Anniversary with live music, promos and giveaways all night long. The party will kick off with Carlos & Joe at 6pm, followed by Soul Circus Cowboys from 10pm to close. Shark Tales offers two levels of bars and dining, indoors and outside, and has the perfect location overlooking Blind Pass, the waterway separating the north end of St. Pete Beach from Sunset Beach. Since new owner Craig Munroe took over a year ago, it has become known as much for its awesome food as for its top-notch entertainment. In the past year, Craig and his team have remodeled the place from top to bottom, introduced a new menu, added a ton of big-screen TVs and booked live music daily. The menu features juicy burgers, the largest peel-and-eat shrimp on the beach, award-winning chowder, fresh seafood entrees and more. Try mouthwatering signature dishes like the Tachos (tater tot nachos...where have these been all my life?), Lobsta Mac-n-Cheese or the Pasadena Pot Pie. Shark Tales has the perfect dock-and-dine location, if you’d like to come by boat. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday, 2pm-6pm. At night, they have a really cool underwater light show that brings a ton of fish to the dock to view from above. Shark Tales is located at 677 75th Avenue in St. Pete Beach. continued from page 4 Gulfport has a growing reputation as an arts destination with its many galleries, stores and talented artists’ community. Building on that, the 2nd Annual Gulfport Masters Fine Arts Festival will take place on February 18 and 19 at Veterans’ Park, located at 5350 31st Avenue South, Gulfport. The event is from 10am to 5pm. It is being sponsored by the Gulfport Merchants Association, the City of Gulfport and Gulfport Chamber of Commerce. The event is a juried show focusing solely on fine art and fine craft, and will feature dozens of artists from all over the nation, offering work for display and sale. A wide range of artistic media will be featured including paintings, photography, glass, wood, metal and fiber. The event is free and open to all. It is family and pet friendly. For more information call 727-366-4086. There is a new addition to the Edge District—a Grateful Dead themed pub called Grateful Fed. Located in the former home of Taps and Tequila at 300 10th Street South, St. Petersburg, it is a late, late-night venue with hours from 4pm to 4am, Monday through Thursday, and noon to 4am on Saturday and Sunday. Sean Ford, formerly of Tryst, saw the need for the city’s late-night workers to enjoy a healthy meal when they finish work. Grateful Fed will be the first restaurant in St. Petersburg to offer a late-night, made-from-scratch menu. So, while the menu features some bar fare standards such as wings and burgers, there are also healthy and nutritious menu options available. Ford has also set up a mini convenience store stocking snacks, coffee and hygiene products, which will be available for delivery with food order until 5am. The establishment features a full liquor bar with craft beers and signature cocktails. In good weather enjoy the outdoor seating on two patios. Phone 727-394-3408 and see their

This establishment operates on the premise of fast/casual service. Guests can order takeout, or eat in at the standing counters or at one of the tables. Because 28 Grams Pizza utilizes wood-fired ovens, the pizzas are cooked to perfection extremely quickly (five to seven minutes) and the wood firing imparts a great flavor. The dough is made in-house daily and a special long fermentation process is used to give it a superb taste. And you can buy the dough to take home and make your own pizza! Fresh, local ingredients are used for the toppings. You will find all the classics as well as some specialty and signature pizzas on the menu. There are other menu items, too, such as garlic knots and wings. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 11am to 9pm; Friday and Saturday, 11am to 11pm. You can order through Uber Eats and Food Now. Lauren’s Corner lauren copenhaver Presidents’ Day is coming up in only a few days on February 20. While most teens are grateful for the day off from school, many do not know much about this important holiday. Why is Presidents’ Day even considered a holiday? Well, Presidents’ Day was established in 1885 to commemorate George Washington’s birthday. It is officially called “Washington’s Birthday,” but became known as “Presidents’ Day” when the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed in 1971 as a way to give the nation’s workers more three-day weekends. Surprisingly, it is still called Washington’s Birthday in the federal government. Even though some states have additional days celebrating Presidents, the third Monday of February has always been set aside as a day to celebrate Presidents of the past and present. This Presidents’ Day, I encourage you to set aside time to think about how teens can get involved and make a difference within their local, state and federal governments. It is important to know that no matter what your age you can make a difference. There are many ways you can get involved and state your views in all branches of government. If you do not like what you see happening within your city, you have the right to stand up and voice your opinion. In St. Pete Beach, the

city sponsors a Youth Council for teens, ages 12-18, who are interested in having a voice within their community government. Members of the Youth Council conduct community service projects, promote youth activism and involvement, and provide input at City Commission meetings. Want to learn how you can get involved? Check out the St. Pete Beach Youth Council on their website (www.spbrec.com/recreational-programs/youth-teen/) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pg/SPB-YouthCouncil-402460789901474/about/). I am certain there are similar programs for teens in your local area. Visit your local community/recreation center and ask about how to get involved or volunteer to start a youth program to stand up for issues important to teens. The YMCA offers a fantastic program called Florida Youth in Government (YIG), which has many chapters all around Tampa Bay. Members of YIG participate in debate practice, service-learning projects, fundraising efforts, and State Assembly preparation. The State Assembly preparation program is extensive, with students selecting a specific aspect of government to learn more about, including: the Legislative, Executive or Judicial branches of government, lobbyists, and the Press Corps. This program helps educate high school students on the process, organization and roles involved with our state’s governmental process. It helps prepare students for activities like Model United Nations, to participate in local government meetings, and the Youth Conference on National Affairs. Participation in YIG would definitely help teens to learn more about the structure of government and get involved in their local communities. One other easy way to get involved in government is to simply write a letter to your state legislator voicing your

opinion or concerns. Legislators are your representative to the federal government and want to hear from you to ensure that they are reflecting the voice of the citizens within their community. If you do not like what is going on within your city, state or the nation, it is your job to speak up and say something about it. As much as you think your letter may not matter, letter-writing campaigns can actually be very effective. The letter, email, or even a phone call to a single legislator could be beneficial in getting your views acknowledged. We have the power to change the way the government runs. For additional tips on how to write to your legislator, visit the National Education Association’s website: www.nea.org/home/19657.htm. Overall, I believe it is very important to be an informed and active citizen in government, whether it be local government, state government or federal government. It can be as simple as writing a letter or joining a local youth council in your area. So on Presidents’ Day this year, I hope you will take some time to consider getting active in government and using your voice to stand up for the issues that are important to you and your life.

The Edible Peace Patch Project is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to eliminate poverty as a factor in educational success and diet-related health issues by cultivating healthy minds and bodies. They provide education through hands-on learning in their organic garden beds. These sustainable gardens are

Gulfport Gulfport’s Get Rescued Gulfport’s Get Rescued, the animal rescue festival and fundraiser, is preparing for its 13th annual event to take place on Saturday, February 25th, 2017. This popular event has evolved from one block and a handful of animal rescue groups in its first year to a popular and festive event representing rescue groups from throughout the region. Gulfport's Get Rescued is one of the largest animal rescue events in the state, with all profits to benefit participating non-profit rescue groups. From 10am to 6pm, animal rescue organizations, many appearing with adoptable pets, take over Beach Blvd. to raise money and awareness for their causes. Additionally, animal-related vendors, artists and crafters offer their wares to festival-goers. Pet Related activities will include an adoptable pet parade, pet care education, pet services, a pet food and supplies drive, animal rescue groups, free samples, training demos, a Bark-B-Que, food, DJ music & more. Each year, thousands of attendees, many accompanied by their own critter companions, make their way to Gulfport to participate in what has become a beloved tradition. Well behaved pets and their leashed people are welcome! The daytime event is free for the public to attend, with plenty of free parking in and around the area. Salty’s will celebrate its 4th anniversary by hosting the 4th annual Bark-B-Que from 11am to 6 pm, or until sold out. Hamburgers, hot dogs and “Doggie Daiquiris” are on the menu. A donation of $5.00 will get you a burger, a bag of chips and a soda, or two hotdogs, a bag of chips and a soda. All-natural frozen treats for the pups will be

available for $2.00. We’ll have your sweet tooth covered as well, with a wide variety of goodies available at the Bake Sale and there will also be a “Pick-A-Prize” raffle with a wonderful selection of items from our very generous donors. All proceeds will be going directly to Gulfport’s Get Rescued, the animal rescue festival and fundraiser. Bark-B-Que is sponsored by Salty’s, Stella’s Deli, O’Maddy’s, and The Tampa Bay Adventures Meet Up group. Bring your fur-babies and check out Salty’s digs at 5413 Shore Blvd. The Get Rescued evening celebration, Tails at Twilight, is a popular component of a full day of festivities that begin with Gulfport’s Get Rescued, the beloved annual street festival and fundraiser held on Beach Blvd. on the same day. Later in the evening, after the pets have gone to bed, all are invited to a lively evening of fun for humans that will also donate to the important cause of animal rescues. The evening will include dancing and live music, catered hors d’oeuvre, a cash bar, and festive décor will add to the party atmosphere. Opportunity drawings will take place during the evening. Proceeds from ticket sales, after expenses, will be donated to rescue groups participating in the evening event. Live and silent auctions will offer a chance to support participating non-profit rescue groups with a variety of auction items up for bids including travel, hotel stays, art, wine and food, pet accessories, restaurant gift certificates, an African Safari and much more. Rescue groups solicit their own items and will receive 100% of proceeds from their auctions. Tickets for the Get Rescued Evening Celebration are a $25 donation. Advance tickets are recommended, however, a limited number of tickets may be available at the door on Saturday, February 25 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom, 5500 Shore Blvd. South. Pink Flamingo Gulfport Fine Arts Home Tour Festival The Second Annual Gulfport Masters Fine Arts Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, February 18 and 19, from 10am until 5pm on both days. The Festival will again be held in Gulfport’s waterfront Veteran’s Park (5350 31st Avenue South). Last year’s first-ever festival was tremendously successful, with dozens of artists showing their work and hundreds of attendees. The event is a juried “boutique” show, focusing solely on fine art and fine craft. Purchase awards and other prizes will be offered to participating artists. There is no charge for admission. The event is open to all and is family and pet-friendly. Dozens of artists from throughout the nation are expected to participate in this year’s event, offering work for display and sale. The Festival is Gulfport’s only two-day outdoor art event, intended to highlight not only the work of local and regional fine artists, but also work from artists not previously represented in the area. A wide range of artistic media will be featured including paintings, photography, glass, wood, ceramics, metal, furniture and fiber. The Festival builds on Gulfport’s reputation as an arts destination. In addition to the many artists residing and working in Gulfport, the city also hosts the twice monthly Art and Gallery Walk, the annual 2Cool Art Show and other events throughout the year, which offer opportunities for artists to show and sell their work. The event venue, Veteran’s Park, is a scenic location overlooking Boca Ciega Bay. It is adjacent to Gulfport’s Shore and Beach Boulevards, the hub of Gulfport’s vibrant Waterfront District, with a collection of all-independent restaurants, pubs, shops, art studios and galleries. Parking in the area is convenient and free. A free trolley will also offer visitors round-trip transportation to the festival from remote parking locations. The Gulfport Masters Fine Arts Festival is co-sponsored by the City of Gulfport, the Gulfport Merchants Association and the Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce. The event is produced by Boulderbrook Productions. Artists may still apply to participate. For more information about the festival, visit Boulderbrook.net or call 239-293-9448 or visit the Facebook page at Facebook.com/events/234273733676433. For more information about Gulfport and other events in the area, go to VisitGulfportFlorida.com.

The 12th annual Pink Flamingo Tour of Homes on Saturday, March 4, 11am-5pm, will again feature unique Gulfport homes, which may be selected because they are very small, very large, very colorful, absolutely gorgeous, original, newly renovated or just “out there”. You’ll be amazed at the wonderful garden spaces and backyard retreats. Whether you are thinking of paving your backyard, creating a lush oasis with water features or raising chickens, you can see it all on the tour. With tiny homes being all the rage, there’s even one on the 2017 tour. The tour is a level route of less than two miles. You can walk, bike or hop on and off the trolley to get around. For more information, contact Karen Love at karenlovefl@gmail.com or 770-497-1139. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the tour. You may purchase tickets in Gulfport at the Beach Bazaar or the Welcome Center, both on Beach Blvd., or online at http://pinkflamingohometour.com.

Red Velvet at freeFall Theatre Meet the cast of Red Velvet, opening February 25! Jose Rufino (of freeFall’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream) stars as Ira Aldridge in Lolita Chakrabarti’s play about the first black actor to play Othello on the London Stage. The stage is set: Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, London, 1833. Edmund Kean, the greatest actor of his generation, has collapsed on stage whilst playing Othello. A young black American actor has been asked to take over the role. But as the public riot in the streets over the abolition of slavery, how will the cast, critics and audience react to the revolution taking place in the theatre? Red Velvet also features Joe Lauck, Britta Ollmann, Megan Therese Rippey, Edward French, Douglas Hall, Amy Dawn Rufino and Matt Lunsford. “Lolita Chakrabarti has written an important and exhilarating play, which in its discussion of performance, politics and race is as entertaining as it is illuminating.”—Kenneth Branagh. The theatre and box office are located at 6099 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, 727-498-5205. Visit freefalltheatre.com to learn more and book your tickets!

The date for Seaside Seabird Sanctuary’s grand opening event has been postponed. A busy time at the sanctuary, coupled with some scheduling conflicts, has prompted the sanctuary’s president, Andrew von Gontard, and the management team to move the date of the event to March. “Our team at the sanctuary has been very busy lately caring for many of the sick birds that have recently turned up in the area,” Andrew said. “Eddie, our operations manager, the staff and our volunteers are working very hard and focusing on the birds. My family also had some scheduling conflicts with the original date and I really wanted them all to be able to attend and share in our celebration. The new organization’s accomplishments would not have been possible without their support.” An exact date for the event has not yet been set. The public will be invited to attend the grand opening celebration to see the many improvements at Seaside Seabird Sanctuary and hear about what is ahead for the organization. The new organization has a strengthened mission to rescue, rehabilitate and release sick, injured and orphaned birds like the ones that have turned up in Coffee Pot Bayou and Riviera Bay Lake in St. Petersburg. The volunteers and staff have been caring for 29 pelicans, one great egret and one cormorant admitted to their avian hospital. The entire team has been working diligently and passionately to rehabilitate these birds. Caring for these birds has been costly and the sanctuary is asking the public to help. Seaside relies 100 percent on private donations to maintain operations. Donations can be made by mail, online or in person at the sanctuary, located at 18328 Gulf Blvd., Indian Shores. All donations to the sanctuary are tax deductible. The sanctuary is open to the public 365 days a year. Admission is free, but visitors are encouraged to donate to support the sanctuary’s ongoing mission. More information can be found at www.seabirdsanctuary.com.

Music Scene Sinatra Tribute The multimedia experience, It Was a Very Good Year, covers Sinatra’s life from his early days in Hoboken, NJ, to his triumphant emergence from retirement. Tony Sands’ show begins with Sinatra’s early years, backed by big bands and Tommy Dorsey, and stretches all the way to the Madison Square Garden comeback, while detailing the various stops in between. “People love the show,” Sands said. “They really don't expect what they’re going to be seeing. It really is like a musical. If you don’t feel the song, it won’t get across to the audience. And every song Frank Sinatra sang, he projected that feeling.” It’s not a spoiler to note that Sands closes his show with Sinatra’s trademark send off, Put Your Dreams Away, as made famous in his ABC television program. You can catch It Was a Very Good Year, one show only on Sunday, February 26, beginning at 3pm. The show will be held at the Catherine Hickman Theater, located at 5501 27th Ave. S. Tickets are now available at the Gulfport Casino at 5500 Shore Blvd. S. and Beach Bazaar at 3115 Beach Blvd. S. for $20 cash or check (Tony Sands). For more information, please call 727-893-1070.

U2 Joshua Tree Tour Coming to Raymond James U2 is bringing the upcoming 30th anniversary tour of their blockbuster album The Joshua Tree to Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on Wednesday, June 14, with opening band OneRepublic. Tickets are on sale now online at various ticket outlets. The Joshua Tree sold more than 25 million copies and won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1987; it still stands the test of time today as a great rock album. The album contains the hits With or Without You, Where the Streets Have No Name, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For and Bullet the Blue Sky. The band will perform the

album in full, along with some other special songs. “Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years,” Bono said in a statement on the band’s website. “It’s quite an opera. A lot of emotions, which feel strangely current: love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarization…all the greats. I’ve sung some of these songs a lot…but never all of them. I’m up for it; if our audience is as excited as we are…it’s gonna be a great night.” The Edge said, “It seems like we have come full circle from when The Joshua Tree songs were originally written, with global upheaval, extreme right wing politics and some fundamental human rights at risk. To celebrate the album—as these songs seem so relevant and prescient of these times too—we decided to do these shows; it feels right for now. We’re looking forward to it.” For more information please visit www.u2.com/news/title/the-joshua-tree-tour-2017/news/.
