About Us If you have ever dreamed of bowhunting Africa for the first time, or you are a seasoned international bowhunter, Kunkura Lodge and Ranch is a destination you should not miss. Kunkura was purchased in 2005 by African bowunting speciaists, Nico and Willie Pelser, to create a bowhuntingonly paradise not found anywhere else on the African continent. With over 40 years of professional hunting experience between them, this unique father and son team will share their special skills and instantly bond with bowhunters at all levels. Between them, their past clients have over 400 entries in the SCI Archery record books, many entered in the top 10, and several world records. The needs of a bowhunter can only truly be appreciated by another bowhunter, regardless of what other gun/bow outfitters tell you. What is so special about Kunkura? That’s simple. It’s the unique terrain of the Waterberg area, the fact that the ranch has never been commercially hunted and that the construction of all facilities were created by bowhunters specifically for bowhunters. Spacious and functional ground and tower blinds (called hides) have been constructed over waterholes providing close, downwind shots that make Kunkura a bowhunter’s heaven. There is a lighted practice range and both Nico and Willie are skilled bow technicians with the equipment to quickly resolve any unexpected bow problems. Kunkura is home to over 30 different species with special emphasis placed on trophy quality Kudu, Bushbuck, Bushpig, Mountain Reedbuck, Nyala and Livingston’s Eland. For those interested in bowhunting dangerous game, Nico and Will Pelser can also provide you excellent trophy hunts for lion, Cape buffalo, Hippo, leopard as well. While the hunting experience is first and foremost, no expense has been spared to create a true African spirit around the lodge. All the comforts of home with five-star African accommodation are yours to enjoy. From the bar and recreation area to the dining room, all your non-hunting hours are spent in African luxury. A dip in the pool before lunch or dinner completes a very special day. Kunkura is also the perfect location for non-hunting guests, where your entire family can be made to feel completely at home. For the non-hunters in your party, photographic tours and expeditions are available both inside Kunkura and in historical areas of Africa, including South Africa’s Kruger National Park. We look forward to speaking with you to customize your first (or tenth!) African bowhunting adventure.

Lodge & Accomodation
Kunkura’s lodge includes eight rustic but elegant suite chalets situated around the lodge with hot and cold water and all the amenities to include a swimming pool to cool down in hot weather. There is a large thatched lapa and boma with an open fire for relaxing evenings after a great hunting day. Inside the lodge is a large living area with TV, dining area, recreational bar area and kitchen facilities.
Kunkura only books hunting parties during the dark of the moon each month from March – October. Length of hunts is customarily 7-10 days, excluding days of arrival and departure. Bowhunting (crossbows are permitted) is done in ground and tower blinds over waterholes. Hunters are provided with a portable radio to contact Professional Hunters for any needs or assistance. Hunters will observe a variety of species throughout the day at their waterholes, not just in early mornings and late afternoons. Blinds are large enough to accommodate companion observers or multiple hunters if desired.
Kunkura is situated in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, between Vaalwater and Lephalale, 50 km from the Limpopo River. It is only 2 ½ hours from Johannesburg (OR Tambo International Airport). Kunkura staff provide comfortable private van service to and from the airport. South Africa has well-developed private medical facilities that are on par with the best in the world. Contrary to popular belief, by coming to South Africa, you will not be at the mercy of nature or witch-doctors should you need medical attention. Fine doctors and well equipped medical facilities as well as air evacuation are readily available. Clients should consult their personal physician for any medical precautions they deem necessary.
