Reflective Working Journal 1 During the project, I found it helpful to create a working journal of thoughts, research and diagrams that helped to establish the connections I was making. I kept two electronic journals because one was via an app and allowed handwritten notes and one was to collect information on the computer. These resources were combined to form the basis of my main report.

Core Traits - Strengths
Openness to experience Enjoys new ideas / enjoys intellectual debate Ethics Sees no need for pretence / candid, frank & sincere Empathy Sympathy for other’s emotions / considerate & tolerent Imagination Grounded / Simplicity & quality / Dependable & loyal Dutifulness Views plans & commitments as moral obligations & when falling to fulfil experiences strong feelings of guilt Cautiousness Makes decisions carefully / thinks of the consequences / avoids danger https://graduateplus.bcu.ac.uk/information-and-resources/potential.ly
INFJ - THE PROTECTOR Values compassion and co-operation Good problem solver, organised. Introverted; sensitive and reserved. Compassion for others welfare. Able to complete tasks without losing their personable and delicate approach.
Collaborator Yes, on reflection I think this is fairly accurate.
I’m happy to lead or work with others on a level playing field. I know I don’t have all the skills I may need to complete a job - I appreciate others have more knowledge than me. But if the project isn’t moving as quickly as it should, or is bogged down in frustrations, I’d rather take control and get on with it! It has taken a long time to realise this!
I don’t feel like this anymore - I used to be. Recently - I feel less hands on and more paperwork. I’d like to return back to this and gain my confidence back!

HOW DO I GET THERE ///
2020 - THE LOCKDOWN YEAR! Having completed online courses to save my sanity during lockdown this Summer, I embarked on my MA Design Mgt. Fearing that if I had to join the job hunt - who was I? How did I put my skills onto paper and was I relevant anymore?
WHAT I KNOW... I know I am a multimodal learner - I like different forms of learning, I like to jump and give it a go. My interpretation - I have a short attention! I was surprised visual wasn’t higher - as I would consider myself a visual communicator, but may as the years have passed, my traits have changed? Visual: 6 Aural: 5 Read / Write: 7 Kinesthetic: 10
WHAT I WANT TO DO... I want to have the confidence to build my freelancing business. I have the ability and skills to deal with suppliers, to negotiate prices etc. However, I have a limited understanding of business issues; insurance, contracts etc. It worries me! I have considered whether a partnership would be more fitting - I would have someone to share these worries with. Someone who may have strengths to complement mine. Concerns: It has to be the right person, trust is imperitive!
WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT... I have applied for the mentor programme. I want to learn from people who experienced these challenges, what have they learned? I have signed upto some of the Natwest seminars to learn business skills via the BSEEN programme.
2021 - 2022 PROGRESS Whilst balancing my MA and a fulltime role, COVID permitting. I want to grow. I want to gain confidence, but more importantly I want to be open to discovery.

My INTRINSIC motivation Act of doing something with no reward
Longbottom, H. (2020) My Intrinsic
Reflecting on how Blooms Mastery fits in with Tuckman’s Team Model (Power of Four) Forming, Storming, Norming & Performing. Contemplating how this fits in with Kolb’s concrete learning experience. Longbottom, H. (2020)
Irvin, N. (2020)
Longbottom, H. (2020) Goal Setting.
I have been considering my ‘Goal Setting’, what I want to do & how I can achieve it but to build a successful business / partnership - I have to face my challenges, identify the commitments I need to make. Consider the feedback, and then face my task complexity.
Although I find commonalities within a number of the learning cycles, I think by converging select points of each and re-creating Hannah’s learning cycle - it would fit better. I understand the need for Kolb’s learning cycle of ‘concrete’ (do / have) experiences, ‘reflective’, ‘abstract’ (conclude / learn) and ‘active experience’ (plan / try). I think some elements are reflective of Honey & Mumford’s stages ‘reflector’, ‘theorist’ and ‘activist’. However, I feel the cycle would function better if you slotted in reward / further learning stages, as identified by Bloom. For my motivation - I think there needs to be reward opportunities regularly, not necessarily significant ones but enough to stay focussed.
Longbottom, H. (2020) Proposed Learning Cycle
Apply a learning cycle to my Master’s experience - a simplified view would be: The first two modules where I am learning all the ‘basics’ and ‘foundation’ of research practice knowledge I have worked or am working through the whole process with the reward at the end taking Route 1 (R1). As I expand my knowledge base, it may be that there isn’t a need for the further learning process stage and Route 2 (R2) is taken and the ‘reward’ stage is reached earlier. It may be if I undertake mini projects or build on my knowledge excessively Route 3 (R3) can be achieved.

CAPTURING YOUR DNA
WHY am I in business?? * To have a better work life balance. * To be able to choose the projects I work on, and work on projects that inspire me. However, this will take time as there are bills to pay before then! * To run a business how I want to - so for work based issues that I don’t agree with I will be in a position to make a difference.
WHAT do I do differently or better than anyone else?? In the Q&A I discussed with Angela Podmore, USP’s and “Good to Good” (G2G) responsible conduct. Her suggestion was to always get sign off before you print, release or press ‘go live’.
HOW do you do things differently?? In the Q&A I also discussed with Angela Podmore how I quote, I explained I normally include two rounds of proofing and alterations. She suggested a good USP would be to charge a ‘premium price’ and offer ‘lifetime’ changes (within reason?) I like this idea as it builds a sense of trust - that you aren’t just an invoice number and that your valued.

For one element of my submission I would like to rebrand my website, so that it focusses on my freelancing work rather than a mish-mash of portfolio pieces from the last 10 years, current freelancing work and links to my Etsy store. I would like it to be: - Freelancing work - Etsy Store This can then be ‘plugged’ into the ‘Exhibition site’. Along with a possible report or images or a short video / voice over??
Potential very rough plan of the website. Thumbnails for ‘type’ of project or a ‘client’??
