The 2011 U.S. National Championships –

ANOTHER GREAT SUCCESS! For over 43 years, Rohara Arabians has bred, owned, shown, and marketed some of the top Arabian and Half-Arabian horses in the world. In 2011, Rohara Arabians and their clients brought 24 horses to the U.S. National Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and had one of the most successful shows ever! All together, they brought home eight national championships, nine reserve national championships, and 36 national top ten awards in purebred and halfArabian halter and performance. As the Rohara team gathered for a group photo, they held armfuls of the gleaming trophies, colorful ribbons, and championship roses. All the time and work they invested had paid off and now they enjoyed the sweetness of another great success! ROHARA ARABIANS TRAINING TEAM: JOE ALBERTI, KATIE SHOWERS, AND JOHN RANNENBERG

The impressive array of trophies, garlands and ribbons decorating the Rohara hospitality area at the show proves that the Arabian truly is the most versatile horse in the world. The colorful stash also confirms the versatility of the Rohara Arabians breeding program, the multi-faceted skills of the Rohara trainers – John Rannenberg, Katie Showers, and Joe Alberti, as well as their very accomplished clients. This combination of top quality purebred and half-Arabian horses, skillful trainers, and dedicated competitors is the key to their success. However, something even more special contributed to their triumphs; the camaraderie that’s shared among the members of the Rohara team. Visiting the Rohara stalls was almost like crashing a family reunion or private party. Everyone was buzzing about; some were preparing delicious grilled food and tasty refreshments, others were helping each other prepare for their classes, encouraging each other, cheering each other on, laughing, joking, and enjoying each other’s company. It was such a positive and fun-filled atmosphere – you just couldn’t help but want to be a part of the team. Everyday it seemed like there was something new to celebrate!

Some of the most exciting classes at the Nationals were in the performance divisions. The bonds between horse and handler are significant and deeply meaningful. One example is Forthe Loveof Thunder, a beautiful and talented half-Arabian mare, and her owner Marikate Mathews. From day one, Forthe Loveof Thunder, or “Lovey”, has been an important part of Marikate’s life and they have shared some very special moments. Marikate rode Lovey to 2006 U.S. National Champion Half-Arabian Show Hack in Open and Amateur, as well as 2007 U.S. National Champion Half-Arabian Show Hack in Open and Amateur. Then, 10 days before the 2008 U.S. Nationals, Marikate broke her arm. She turned to her dear friend, trainer, and mentor, John Rannenberg and asked him to show Lovey for her. John and Lovey were National Champions in Half-Arabian Show Hack Open. Marikate was encouraged and decided to ride Lovey too – even though her arm was broken and she was wearing a cast. Makikate explained, “Lovey is so intelligent and John has done such a fantastic job training her; it gave me the confidence to try. Lovey and I have an amazing bond; that day I rode her with my mind and body. I never once stressed my hand or arm.” Marikate and Lovey earned a sixth national championship title. In early 2010, Marikate decided Lovey needed a break and gave her a full year and half of well deserved rest. In the fall of 2011, Marikate was ready to get back to the ring with Lovey, but the pair was looking for a new challenge. Marikate decided they would give the Country English Plea-

sure division a try. Never in her wildest dreams did Marikate expect such amazing success with their first time back in the ring together, and in a brand new division. However, this talented team would not be denied and they were U.S. National Champion Country English Pleasure, AAOTR 55 & Over. This was the seventh national championship title for Forthe Loveof Thunder, a mare that exemplifies the amazing versatility of the Arabian and half-Arabian performance horse.

NET WORTH LOA

Another exciting champion presented by Rohara Arabians was the glamorous black-bay gelding Net Worth LOA (Krewe x Worthy Decision). This beautiful and talented horse was named National Reserve Champion Half-Arabian Country English Pleasure Open with John Rannenberg and National Top Ten Half-Arabian Country English Pleasure, 55 & Over with Linda Musso. Although Net Worth LOA is a relatively new member of the Rohara team, he has been a wonderful addition. Earlier in the year, Net Worth LOA was named 2011 NSH Grand Champion Country English Pleasure AOTR, with Linda Musso; and NSH Champion Country English Pleasure Geldings & Stallions with John Rannenberg, as well as NSH Unanimous Grand Champion Country English Pleasure Open with John Rannenberg. Net Worth LOA is certainly proving his worth as a highly competitive performance champion.

SHAKEN NOT STIRRED

U.S. National Top Ten HA NATIVE COSTUME with DEBBIE HOLDEN

One of the most popular classes of the entire U.S. Nationals, as well as one of the classes that brings in the most spectators is the fast and furious competition in Native Costume. This year Rohara team member Debbie Holden and her mount, Shaken Not Stirred (Justafire DGL x La Mirabella), gave a great performance and earned a U.S. National Top Ten in Half-Arabian Mounted Native Costume. Rohara Arabians rolled into Tulsa with 24 horses, three trainers, a support staff of six, and a fantastic group of talented and highly motivated clients. After nine days of hard work, long hours, and lots of fun, they were able to celebrate with eight national championships, nine reserve national championships, and 36 national top ten awards in purebred and Half-Arabian halter and performance. It was a memorable year with family, friends, clients, and wonderful horses; and for the Rohara Arabians team the 2011 U.S. National Championships was another big success!
