An Evening In Roma 38th Golden Bell Auction Saturday, March 29, 2014

Benefiting Bellarmine’s Direct Financial Aid Fund

38th Annual Golden Bell Auction Message from the President Dear Friends, It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 38th Annual Golden Bell Auction: “An Evening in Roma.” Buona sera to you all! Thank you for your commitment to our students and to our mission. Your presence here this evening, and your active participation as an auction bidder, is greatly appreciated as together we meet the continuing challenge of providing tuition assistance to qualified students who have demonstrated financial need. With Bellarmine’s financial aid budget at $4 million this academic year, and with 25 percent of our students receiving tuition assistance, all proceeds from the 38th Annual Golden Bell Auction will benefit our Direct Financial Aid Fund. The importance of this fundraising designation is underscored by the tremendous support by members of our Board of Regents and Board of Trustees, who have embraced this cause fully and have taken the Golden Bell event under its collective wing. I would like to particularly acknowledge Marc Rebboah ’77, chair of our Trustees; and Matt Medeiros, chair of our Regents; for their leadership. My appreciation also extends to the many companies and individuals who are supporting this event through underwriting, as well as the countless individuals who have generously donated so many unique items for our online, silent, and live auctions. Special thanks to Brian Christensen, Director of Special Projects for Development & Alumni; and Claudia DeNuccio, volunteer event chair and member of our Board of Trustees; as well as the Office of Advancement team; Nancy Janda, chef Jeremy Soulia, and the Liccardo Center kitchen staff who have joined the executive chefs for this evening; Juan Navarro and his buildings and grounds maintenance team; plus the numerous volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make tonight possible. Blessings on your goodness, enjoy this evening of celebrating la famiglia -- the family that is Bellarmine -and please remember to bid high and bid often! Grazie,

Paul G. Sheridan, S.J. President

Thank you to all our Donors, Sponsors, & Guests

Last Bell Standing Direct Financial Aid Program

At the 2007 Golden Bell Auction, our Last Person Standing raised an unprecedented $653,000 for Direct Financial Aid. Even more impressive is the fact that through this generosity, Bellarmine positively impacted the lives of hundreds of deserving students. The belief in an outstanding education for every qualified student, regardless of his financial circumstances, is rooted in the 480-year Jesuit tradition, but is only made possible through the support of many. In 2014, our mission remains the same, yet the need continues to increase. Many of our middle income families are struggling to find the resources to make the Bellarmine experience possible for their sons. Often, the award needed for tuition assistance may only be $1,000; $2,000; or $5,000. The school is proud that 402 students will share nearly $4 million in financial aid funds this year. They have earned this opportunity through hard work and sacrifice. It’s often asked, “Why does the school provide this level of financial aid?” The answer is quite simple: “It is the right thing to do. It is the Bellarmine thing to do.” Tonight, we invite you to stand united as the family that is Bellarmine and truly make a difference in the lives of so many of our students and their families. Your support is an investment in the future of the young men we are privileged to educate.

“Thank you for your generosity and support. You made something that I thought would be impossibble into a reality. You have given me hope and made me one step closer to my dream of being successful. Words cannot express what I feel and felt when I found out that my education would be paid for.”

“Bellarmine looks to push its students so we could exceed our own expectations, and your contributions to my tuition fuel my high school journey.”

Through my Bellarmine experience, I have matured, and I have no idea where my life would be without Bellarmine standing by my side through my struggles this year. I am extremely grateful to you and the financial help you provide my family.”
