PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE WELCOME TO THE BCA 9TH ANNUAL GLOBAL FOOD & WINE EXPERIENCE I would like to welcome all of you to the 9th Annual Global Food and Wine Experience. This has been a trying year for so many people especially in the New York area. The trials and tribulations are a reminder that so many things are taken for granted and that the simplest things must be appreciated. Our event tonight symbolizes and represents some of the tenacity present in the hospitality industry. Many of this year’s participants and supporters have suffered losses or know someone close to them that has. We would also like to offer our thoughts and prayers for those who were not able to participate this year because of dire circumstances. We wish everyone a speedy recovery to normalcy in the coming New Year. The work of the BCA continues at this year’s event with new food concepts as well as wine and spirits debuting in the food marketplace. We also continue the tradition of students from our educational partners being paired with the chefs and restaurants to receive real life exposure and experience. This is the only Food and Wine event that focuses on diversity within the country and we are proud to continue this tradition for the past nine years. As we continue to focus on diversity as a platform, we must remember the food world consists of restaurants, caterers, retail and fine dining establishments with multi-ethnic cuisines. Creating a platform where ethnic food can be highlighted with the wine and spirit sector is a key component in growing a new sector of educated consumers and potential career paths. Tonight represents America’s melting pot while providing the environment and perfect atmosphere to deepen appreciation for the world of gastronomy to as it plays a more importance role to diversity in the food-service industry. Without support for this event and the BCA, our existence would be remote, so our thanks goes out to all the sponsors and supporters that make these programs and events possible. Our appreciation also extends to John Rose and the staff of Guastivinos, the vendors, chefs, and volunteers that make this event seamless in the making. As we share this evening with companions and colleagues, let’s reflect on the future of this great industry and its value to each of us. I look forward to a wonderful night in good company and a festive atmosphere in celebrating this year’s BCA 9th Annual Global Food and Wine Event. BCA VISION IN WINE AWARD The Vision in Wine Award is presented to individuals in recognition of their dedication to building awareness, appreciation, and creating exposure for people of color to provide a higher level of understanding for the culture of wines. These individuals have devoted themselves to educating people of color in the history and health benefits of wine as well as the wine industry. Through their merit, reputation and commitment, they have dedicated their time and energy to lay the groundwork for future generations to follow in their footsteps in seeking and sharing a deeper knowledge of wine and its role in the culinary industry.

2012 HONORE E VISION IN WINE AWARD HELEN SHELTON Senior Partner, Finn Partners (Metro NY) Helen Shelton is a sought-after expert in the marketing and communication of lifestyle brands in the spirits, wine, retail, financial services, entertainment and pharmaceutical sectors. In the spirits and wine sectors alone, she has represented some of the most iconic brands in the industry from the mass market Seagram’s Gin portfolio to the Villa Antinori Family of wines, Champagne PiperHeidsieck and To-Kalon, the red winemaking facility at Robert Mondavi. In 2007, Ruder Finn Founder and Chairman David Finn appointed Helen to lead the firm’s newly-established Multicultural & Image Marketing practice. In the summer of 2010, Helen was appointed to Senior Partner of Ruder Finn’s lifestyle boutique agency, Finn Partners. In this capacity, Helen serves as a senior strategist responsible for developing signature public relations programs for Fortune 500 companies as well as non-profit cultural and social service organizations. Helen has a particular expertise in creating marketing communications, branded entertainment and cause-related platforms designed to address the needs and interests of diverse audiences nationwide. Helen is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she double majored in art history and government. She also holds an M.S. degree in journalism and communication from Boston University’s College of Communication, where she was selected to serve as a Writing Fellow. Helen serves on the Board of Directors of ReadNet, Inc., the Board of Directors of The Support Network, Inc., and is a charter member of the Pi Theta chapter of the national social service sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. The Support Network, Inc.’s “Woman of the Year,” Helen is a recipient of the Ebony Outstanding Women in Marketing & Communications Award and a recipient of The Network Journal’s “40 Under 40” Award. She was also named one of the “Top 50 Women in Entertainment” by Black Noir Magazine. In her spare time, Helen enjoys Italian cinema and literature and can often be found in her kitchen, baking or shopping for new handbags. She also serves as WABC 7-New York’s official handbag expert with particular expertise and connoisseurship for the Louis Vuitton brand.
