WHAT IT’S ABOUT. The book, What My Mother Doesn’t Know is told in the point of view of your typical 14 year old teenage girl, Sophie Stein. Sophie and her mom don‟t exactly have the perfect „Mother-daughter relationship‟. Ever since Sophie‟s parents have been fighting, every time her mom gets mad or sad, she goes in the basement, watches her soap operas and eats Hershey kisses. Good thing Sophie has her best friends, Rachel and Grace. Sophie, Rachel, and Grace have been best friend since the 5th grade. They‟ve been there for each other through everything; boys, parents, and just your typical every day problems. Sophie builds a relationship, and grows to like Murphy, the weirdest kid in school. She has no idea how to tell Rachel and Grace…but shouldn‟t best friends not judge you on who you like? That‟s how it should be, but it seems the opposite in this situation.
