have supported our programme in 2014. Thank you. Port Nelson Golf Tournament proceeds A huge thank you to Port Nelson Limited for choosing Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nelson as the charity of benefit, for their 2014 Golf Tournment. Big Brothers Big Sisters Launch in Motueka

Big Brothers Big Sisters will be operating in Motueka from 2015! We had a formal launch for this exciting venture in October. Thanks to the Motueka community for the wonderful support we have received. Building our programme in Motueka, will be an extension of our present programme here in Nelson. Thank you Rotary Club of Motueka, for organising our very first event in Motueka.

Breakfast Fundraiser Our October breakfast fundraiser was held at Trailways, and sponsored by SBS Bank. It was thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfasting with Jason Pemberton, co founder of the Volunteer Army Foundation, Jason delivered a thought provoking, informative speech. Thank you to all those who attended and supported our raffle sales on the day and SBS Bank our sponsor for the event.

Sold out event in Nelson raises funds - big time! The Nelson team really know how to run a brilliant fundraising event. Guest speaker Billy Graham's inspirational stories of lives being turned around by the influence of mentors motivated people to bid high, resulting in fantastic fundraising total. What a fantastic evening. So good in fact that anticipation alone for this event meant that it completely sold out well before the night! The venue itself is already such a cool setting, but the team had gone to extra mile to make the room look simply stunning. The National Director, Dave Marshall, spoke about how the Nelson programme had started something big, now with programmes in 15 locations across the country. Nelson can be very proud of this role. Raising over $18,000 for the Nelson organisation is a big deal. This will significantly help the agency to continue to support quality mentoring for children who need it in the Nelson area. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this event.

Thanks to our supporters... We would like to acknowledge the ongoing support of our sponsors and funders...

Such a great night out (don’t forget to look for next year’s event) but even more than a great night, it will make a lasting impact on many children’s lives. That is a big deal!

As the year draws to an end, I have been looking at what we have achieved in 2014 and I have to say that it is a lot! I am not sure how we fitted in all of the meetings, events and fundraisers that we were either organising or involved in over the past 12 months. I had a quick look at the calendar and counted that we had provided, either ourselves or with a local organisation, more than 21 events and activities, have run or been involved in 11 fundraisers and I have done over 50 presentations to organisations, schools and businesses, and that is all on top of what we actually do – recruiting, training, supervising and supporting our mentors as well as supporting our young people and their families! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful people in our community who have been so kind and generous with their time, donations and support of our programme in one way or another, making a difference to the lives of young people and their families. It is very impressive to have such willingness to contribute in our community and I think how lucky we are to live in such a caring place. It is what we make it that’s for sure! With the festive season in full swing, it is timely to remember that it can be a stressful, busy period for many. Taking time to consider others, being a little bit extra thoughtful can make a difference!
