From November to January each year, you and your family can enjoy ice skating right here in Baytown. Operating an ice rink in Southeast Texas is no easy feat... in fact, our crews spend three to four weeks preparing Town Square for the transformation. Then, over the course of 12 days, approximately 29,000 gallons of water are frozen into a solid layer of ice, perfect for skating! The Town Square Ice Rink is open from November 29, 2019 to January 11, 2020. For more information on the Town Square Ice Rink, call (281) 422-1150.

“I started practicing yoga 3 years ago and was transformed by the practice so much so that I wanted to teach others about yoga,” Nakia said. “Founded by an outburst of love for my hometown, I wanted to share more of the light of yoga to a place previously untouched by the healing qualities of the practice. So I started exploring opportunities to find places to teach yoga!” Nakia recently started teaching yoga classes at the Baytown Farmers Market on the third Saturday of each month at 10:00 am, and will expand to teaching classes at the Baytown Community Center this fall. Nakia says she is excited to expand her practice further in the community. “I believe yoga is a catalyst to physical and mental well-being and once established, individuals find a freedom within themselves and thrive in life,” Nakia said. “I desire to foster a sense of community and share my love of the practice with those who are willing to learn.” Nakia’s next yoga session begins on September 24. Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Baytown Community Center. Registration for this session is $60.00, or $5.00 per dropin class. Join us each month on the Saturday closest to the full moon to explore a different section of the Baytown Nature Center in hopes of seeing nocturnal animals, such as raccoons, opossums, coyotes, fireflies and flying squirrels. These monthly 90-minute hikes begin just after sunset. Hikers are asked to wear comfortable clothing. Small children should not attend since hikers have a better chance of viewing nocturnal animals in a relatively quiet atmosphere. Routes and start times vary monthly. Hikers should meet at the Visitor’s Center unless otherwise stated. Hikes are weather permitting and free with general admission.
