ASSURED FLOORING & COUNTERTOPS

WE HAVE SHIFTED our goals toward pleasing designers and customers alike. We have accomplished this in three ways—a remodeled showroom, a new warehouse and fabrication facility, and by striving to improve our company culture by investing in our team members. In addition, we’ve stayed focused on giving our customers the “red carpet treatment” as we have done for more than 17 years serving the Greater Baton Rouge Area. Focusing on client satisfaction, high quality results, and company culture has allowed us to triple the size of our warehouse and fabrication facility. Our cutting-edge stone fabrication facility offers the latest technology of CNC operations to Baton Rouge—a technique that allows us to cut

an unprecedented average of 7,000 square feet each month. Our new showroom was built with you in mind. Whether you are a designer or architect meeting with a client or an individual looking to do a small project, our showroom is perfectly suited to design or re-design your home or business. With this growth, we are now employing more than 30 full-time employees (seven full-time sales representatives and a showroom coordinator) and are now able to offer comprehensive benefits, creating better job opportunities in the area. Our sales representatives have sourced the newest products from the top flooring and countertop conventions in both Las Vegas and Biloxi.

CANGELOSI DANCE PROJECT THE CANGELOSI DANCE PROJECT is a distinguished dance academy dedicated to classical ballet training and contemporary dance styles that emphasize a codified vocabulary for each dance subject. The Baton Rouge-based, nonprofit organization focuses on refining the dancers’ skills through precise techniques to make every single movement cohesive. Along with this special attention to technique, the director offers several valuable performance opportunities to the company students enrolled in the intensive program. The Company performs their popular annual Holiday Nutcracker, which the director wrote, created, and choreographed (her version) using the traditional classical Tchaikovsky musical score. Additional community performances include EBR

Libraries, Big Buddy summer program, retirement homes, downtown festivals, and charity events. The Cangelosi Dance Project has three student performance companies that present more than 10 main shows a year and offers additional dance educational programs with invited in-house professional master teachers, and travels to regional and national dance conventions with competitions. Owner Kris Cangelosi assures her dancers receive the best training for potential future careers in dance by providing resources for a college with a dance degree, professional dance companies, modeling, TV/film, dance crews, or the opportunity to one day be asked to be a star dancer for the Big Buddy Program.

“You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls or hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that fleeting moment when you feel alive. It is not for unsteady souls.” — Merce Cunningham, modern dance choreographer

FRANCISCAN MISSIONARIES OF OUR LADY UNIVERSITY FRANCISCAN MISSIONARIES of Our Lady University’s vision is taking shape through a major building project, the first in the school’s history, with a 75,000-squarefoot, three-story building to be dedicated to academic and student development functions at both undergraduate and graduate levels. St. Francis Hall represents the initial step in the development of the University’s master plan. At the corner of Brittany Drive and Picardy Avenue, this building will serve as the front door to a cohesive and identifiable campus for FranU.

Driven by the University’s mission, the facility will provide an interactive and student-centered environment. It will contain modular spaces that can support multiple educational activities and social events of varied sizes. Learning outside of the classroom will be facilitated by interactive student spaces adjacent to instructional spaces, promoting ongoing synergies between formal and informal learning and enhancing the relationship-based education characteristic of a Franciscan University.

Within its walls, we are committed to sculpting the living stones that will advance the FranU mission and honor the University’s namesake.

ARTVARK, CURATED

SINCE 2011, Artvark, Ltd. has been both retailer of vintage, new and unique furniture and décor, as well as a provider of redesign, renovation and styling services. Now, Claire Major, owner/designer and artist/art collector, is rebranding: Welcome Artvark, Curated. “I’ve been buying more art over the past year,” she says, “as well as showing selected local artists’ work. We all know COVID put a wallop on the supply chain, and after receiving the mother lode of back-ordered décor items after my final opening last year, I decided ‘no more.’” Too many small items and clutter, as well as her growing art collection, compelled her to scale down to a selected amount of inventory: larger scale, higher-end and unique

pieces, and vintage art. Artvark, Curated will look more like a gallery, but will still offer beautiful home décor, new and vintage/found items, and will continue with social media-announced openings and exhibits. “I’m excited about what’s in store,” she says. “We’re making the space more upscale and inviting. We’ve gotten some very special pieces over the last three months from listed artists around the world, mostly postmodern and contemporary in style, but also pieces that are realism, which I find myself going back to.” Artvark, Curated will continue to offer design services as well.

RUFFINO’S RESTAURANT

RUFFIN RODRIGUE founded Ruffino’s in 1998 with an understanding that he wanted to create a place where people could come to “celebrate life.” Today, his wife Alison continues his legacy and vision with Ruffino’s Director of Operations Megan Klock (who has 27 years of experience) and Executive Chef Reid Henderson. Featuring an old Italian feel, Ruffino’s has a woodburning pizza stove, a temperature-controlled wine cellar with over 2,500 different varietals of wine, and three rooms for private parties and special events. “We are so proud to have played a part in so many celebrations over the years and look forward to continuing Ruffin’s vision,” Klock said.

With locations in Baton Rouge and Lafayette, Ruffino’s is a steak, seafood, and Italian-inspired restaurant that focuses on the “Celebration of Life,” regardless of the occasion. At Ruffino’s the goal is always the same— to ensure every experience there is nothing short of remarkable. In addition, Ruffino’s De La Ronde Hall in downtown Baton Rouge can accommodate up to 500 guests in their recently renovated Grand Ballroom. But it is the Learning Innovation Team that brings the museum to life, ensuring every child reaps the benefits of playing with a purpose. They are experts in early childhood learning, so they understand the unique developmental needs and learning styles of young children. Each of these educators brings a wide range of talents, interests and expertise to Knock Knock, and their

diversity amplifies the learning experience for each visitor while enhancing children’s creativity and strengthening their ability to solve challenges. Let our incredible Learning Innovation Team show your little ones how much fun learning through play can be. Children love Knock Knock’s 18 Learning Zones. Each one is designed to facilitate and encourage them to make connections to the world around them by building on their natural curiosity.

SACRED HEART OF JESUS SCHOOL IN LESS THAN one year after the launch of the Sacred Heart of Jesus School’s Creating a Centennial Capital Campaign, Advancement Director Christina DiVincenti O’Brien (’95) reports that the school has raised more than a half-million dollars. Sacred Heart has already begun renovations with the completion of four middle school classrooms, and plans have been made to renovate four to six more classrooms this summer. Working with the Louisiana Department of Cultural Development to ensure the historic preservation of the building, the Capital Campaign will assist Sacred Heart in creating the most modern environment for its

students while maintaining the historical exterior of the traditional school building. This campaign is instrumental in supporting its mission to provide an environment where every child can reach his or her full potential while educating the mind, body and spirit. On the heels of the Capital Campaign, Sacred Heart of Jesus School Principal Cecilia Methvin announced they will begin a PreK-3 program in fall of 2022. Plans are underway to prepare for the newest Tiny Tigers to join the Sacred Heart family. For more information, contact Cecilia Methvin or Christina DiVincenti O’Brien at 225.383.7481.

Steeped in Catholic tradition, Sacred Heart of Jesus School is a diverse community dedicated to educating the mind, body, and spirit.

SHERMAN & BALHOFF ORTHODONTICS

A HEALTHY, BRIGHT, CONFIDENT SMILE is priceless and important to social and career success and long-term health. While most people associate orthodontics with straightening crooked teeth, there is much more to orthodontics than meets the eye. Though straight teeth are certainly a goal of many treatments done at Sherman & Balhoff Orthodontics, we also focus on positioning the jaw, bite patterns, and spacing of teeth. Most of these orthodontic issues present early in life, which is why we recommend bringing your child to the orthodontist by age 7. Orthodontic treatment is often viewed as an option

for children and teenagers, but the alignment of teeth can be changed at any age as long as the supporting structures and gums are healthy. We offer a variety of treatments that are designed for different age groups, including adults. We encourage adults and older patients to visit us if they are experiencing discomfort. It’s never too late to take care of your teeth, so please do not hesitate to seek treatment. Our goal at Sherman & Balhoff Orthodontics is to find the treatment that works best for each individual. We welcome patients of all ages at our practice.

GARDERE COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

THE GOAL OF Gardere Community Christian School is to make a high-quality, Christian education available to every child and family in the Gardere area, regardless of their financial circumstances. We serve Pre-K 3 through 5th grade, and we believe keeping students in their neighborhood creates the opportunity to help build families. Strong families mean strong communities. This year we have added another first-grade class.

In addition to academic programs, GCCS offers daily chapel and character development along with visual and performing arts, music and after-school programs. Looking to the future, we want to continue growing and expanding our classes and community reach. We are always seeking volunteers to assist with after-school programming and events, so let us know if you’d like to be involved.

Encouraging children to grow into and become the person God created them to be.

OUR LADY OF THE LAKE CHILDREN’S HEALTH CHILDREN’S DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER AT MCMAINS FOR NEARLY 70 YEARS, McMain’s Children’s Developmental Center has serviced the children of our community. Through physical, occupational, speech, and educational therapies, and assistive technology along with our family programming, we help children with developmental delays and disabilities live their most independent lives. Since no standard therapy works for all children, our

team crafts a customized plan of treatment for each child. We wrap our core therapy services with additional services and programs to address the unique needs of the whole child and family. In 2022, we joined Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health to expand our ability to serve the kids we see. We’re excited about the possibilities this new partnership can offer children throughout Louisiana.

OUR LADY OF THE LAKE

WHEN YOU THINK you’re experiencing a cardiac event like a heart attack, it can be scary. At Our Lady of the Lake, we hear you and we’re focused on providing the right care at the right time. Dr. Mark Laperouse, Medical Director of the Emergency Department, and Dr. Denzil Moraes, Chief Medical Officer of the Our Lady of the Lake Heart and Vascular Institute, are collaborating on a Cardiac Decision Unit to streamline and standardize cardiac care for the Baton Rouge community. What is a cardiac decision unit? When patients enter the front door to the ER with chest pain, care will be brought to the patient rather than the patient traveling all over the hospital for testing. The nursing team will be educated

and trained specifically to meet the needs of patients with presentations, which are signs and symptoms of a cardiac event, to further elevate care and bring the best outcomes for a patient. This approach will ensure that some of the less classical signs will not be missed. For example, women are less likely to report chest pain compared to men, and they may experience different symptoms. The team will focus on presentations for chest pain, arrhythmias and congestive heart failure, driven by protocols based on risk stratification. The decision unit in the ER will bring together the expertise of emergency medicine and cardiology to ensure the best results for patients—bringing healing to the communities we serve.

We listen. We heal.
