Archbishop Ramon Arguelles...

at punong lungsod Vilma Abaya Dimacuha.

I enter the future by remembering the past.”

At iyong pagpapakila sa mga Biblical characters ay “in the form of poetry”. I salute the organizing committee, napakaganda ng Santacruzan!

May hypertension. The S.E.X. campaign of the DOH could be misconstrued by call center workers, sabi ng mga pumalag. “We care for the BPO workers. We want them to remain productive and be part of our country’s progress,” ayon pa kay Tayag.

“Juan does not want,” sabi PUNTONG... pahina 9

K to 12 enabling law WITH President Aquino’s recent signing of Republic Act 10533, otherwise known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, it has been institutionalized the Philippines K to 12 basic education program. Actually, K to 12 curriculum already commenced last schoolyear in what may be construed as esperimental phase. Now it’s effectivity is formalized with an enabling law. R.A. 10533 will restructure basic education in the country by requiring Filipino students to undergo one year in kindergarten, six years in primary school, four years in junior high school and two years in senior high school. After kindergarten, comes primary schooling (Grade 1-6), followed by junior high school (Grades 7-10) and two years of senior high school (Grades 11-12). The Department of Education (DepEd) declared June 3 as formal opening of classes in schoolyear 2013-2014. Private schools may deviate from the June 3 schedule, but should not come later than the last day of August. Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago yesterday questioned the huge banking fees the government has allotted for next year’s implementation of the CCT, or the P40 billion dole-out program, claimed to be the program for the poorest of the poor in society. P-Noy declared that the law aims “to improve the quality of basic education and adequately prepare high school graduates for college education, work or employment, making them globally competitive.” R.A. 10533 also provides for a mother-tongue, multilingual approach to instruction to facilitate the early learning process of students. Teachers are required to use a

Moving On & Letting Go OLD age is a gift. Having wrinkles, strands of gray hair (a headful of gray hair in some), blurred vision, slowing metabolism, baggy eyes, curving posture are some signs of getting old. In every fine line added in your skin, it has some good story to tell. My father died last March. It caused me sleepless nights and emotional pains. I was a little depressed and burnt-out. I slimmed down to 53 kilos from 61 kilos in two months time. I am now starting to move-on, realizing that I need to cope up for health reason. While I am starting to forget the pain, I received a message last week telling me that my uncle passed away. It’s really hurting to hear news like that. Letting go of the person you love hurts the most. Yes, they were both wrinkled and old, they died because of some sickness, but it still painful seeing them go. My father was 78 when he died. He’s the type that stays at home most of the time, watch tv all day long, sit on the rocking chair everyday, yes that’s his life. He’s

region’s mother tongue as medium of instruction from Grades 1 to 3. Last year, in the test run of K to 12 I wrote about its impact not only among students, teachers, parents, workers and other groups and individuals. I spent one week observing people of varied walks of life. I zeroed in on a particular person…a jeepney driver in our neighborhood. This was what I got: DRIVER FILO finds his pasada altered today. He must begin to hit the road in early dawn. Nothing unusual for fellows earning a living for their family. But the passenger jeepney which he drives on “boundary” from an operator in the neighborhood doesn’t only ply the prescribed route of Uptown-“Bayan” and vice-versa. He sidelines with extra trips ferrying 12 small children to school in the morning and fetch them for home after dismissal at lunchtime. Then he makes the ride available to another batch of graders whose class schedule is 2 p.m.6 p.m. FILO striddles to the driver’s seat. He switches the ignition key and as the diesel engine purrs the start, he glances at his watch. It’s 4:45 a.m. on the cheap wrist timepiece which a local politician had gifted him for providing driving services during the last campaign. He has just heard of the new school system dubbed as “K to 12.” The 35-year-old driver, a high school dropout, doesn’t understand what that term means. He just realizes that he needs to start early (at 5 a.m.) rounding up the kids from their residences that aren’t actually near each other. Yes, he has to start at five for the pupils to be in the room at the start of the 7 a.m. classes. He looks toward the door of their rented small apartment. He sees his wife Carla approaching with their two small daughters in tow. Sofia, Grade I, and Nympha, 5, (to start in kindergarten) have to take the ride now because their father doesn’t make a second trip in the morning. The overpopulation of students has prompted DepEd to arrange the schedule of classes in more sessions that begin early in the morning and end late in the afternoon. They had to add an extra session to the regular (two) morning and afternoon schedules. AS FILO drives toward the houses of the other pupils, PRINTALK... page 9

the serious type of a person that’s why he always looks gloomy to me. He easily gets sick. He hates loud noise, kids running and most of all, clutter. He hates it when his hands seem clumsy and his coordination doesn’t work because when you get older, the motion tends to slower. He’s the typical old man in our old story books. But that was then, when he’s alive. Sickness got much of him. It’s good I got the drive to write about him now. I lost my energy and interest to write two months ago. Losing someone I loved dearly causes me too much pain. He’s the most wonderful person in my book. He made me feel special since I was a child. Thinking that I had served him a month before his demise, having been able to kiss and hug him those times he’s in pain, makes my sorrows gone. Life is a gift. If you are in your old age, it’s high time to slowdown so you can savor everything more and better than before. Do not limit your opportunity to try new things within your limits. Do what you want to do. Be chonologically old but creatively young. Always think that the older you get, the faster the time passes. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Don’t let old age stops you from doing things that you deserve. Enjoy every minute of it. Everybody is going there, we are all getting old in due time. Let’s cherish every moment that we still have our parents with us. Let us tolerate their clumsiness, their swinging moods and their slowing moves. Their energies were spent on us, let us return the gesture by loving them with all of our hearts. Parents are one of the most precious persons we have in our lives. To my tatay, I am praying that you get straight to heaven. Your memories still lingers on my mind. Your words still etched in my heart.Your deeds shows us where way to go. You made my life’s travel easy with your words of wisdom. It’s even more beautiful where you are going.

Pagninilay Sa Salita At Mga Balita Ni Bro. PEPE MALALUAN

No man isa an island. Entire of itself, Each is a piece of the continent; A part of the main.”

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT Holy Spirit Thou Who Make Me See Everything And Show Me The Way To Reach My Ideal. You Who Give Me The Divine Gift To Forgive And Forget The Wrong That Is Done To Me And Who Are In All Instances Of My Life With Me. I, In This Short Dialogue, Want To Thank You For Everything And Confirm Once More That I Never Want To Be Separated From You No Matter How Great The Material Desires May Be. I Want To Be With You And My Loved Ones In Your Perpetual Glory. Amen. Petition from:jgm

Well, mag-move on ka na, iha…

Anyway, wala pang follow-up project ngayon ang aktor.

Thirteen years old pa lamang sila ay naging mag-on na at kahit gano’n kabata ay tumagal ang relasyon nila for five years. They remained as friends naman daw, sabi ng aktor.

some disturbing thoughts flash in his mind. While this K to 12 system which he hears to be experimental (whatever that means), has just started, he already becomes wary that it will increase the livelihood expenses of his family. Sec. Luistro statement. LAST week, DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro told a press briefing an issue which somehow answered indirectly Filo’s worries. Luistro expressed,“K to 12 program will not bring additional costs to Filipino parents and students, since the government will fund public schools.” Meanwhile, a news update on the education scholarship component of the government’s Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program reported that numerous CCT scholars face major challenges to remain in school and graduate. CCT, btw, is a welfare program wherein government doles out funds to the poorest of the poor in society. This year’s CCT budget is a whopping P40-billion. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which handles said program stated, in its first year of implementation in 2012, several of the 4,041 scholars under the Students Grants-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (SGP-PA) had dropped out. Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman said the first few months of the school year required major adjustments for the scholars, most of whom had not been to school for some time and were stepping into a college campus for the first time. There’s another problem. Certain CCT beneficiary families had been spending for other household needs the scholarship funds allocated for their siblings.# (ani_ gman@yahoo.com)

sa video. Sinundan ito ng mga tanong na, “Is he aware?” at “Does he know?” At pinakahuli ang mga katagang, “Now you know.” Nakakaaliw at may sense of humor and video. May your tribe increase!

KARANIWANG...

“Take me to bed, please...”

“My head,” daing nito at hinawakan ang ulo. “Ang sakit ng ulo ko!” Hindi niya alam kung ano ang gagawin. Nagmulat ito ng mga mata. Tumingin sa kanya.

“Pakimasahe mo ang ulo ko, Brad. Parang binibiyak! Please...” This is crazy! bulong ni Brad sa sarili.

And then they were both totally naked.

tinuan. Mali ito! Hindi dapat! Bigla ang ginawa niyang pagkalas kay Gwen. Agad siyang tumayo at nasapo ang noo. “W-what’s wrong with you?” takang tanong ni Gwen. Mabilis siyang naligo at muling nagbihis. I’m really sorry...” Ngumiti nang mapait si Gwen. “Sorry for what?” Hindi siya makasagot. SUBAYBAYAN

(Mamerta P. De Castro/ PIA-Batangas)
