Amama is a character in the film, but more than a character she is a concept; she is the inherited knowledge passed on through generations, the wisdom that connects us with our forbears.

Amama is a character of beauty and dignity, a symbolic character who doesn’t need to speak in order to communicate.

The protagonist of the film is her granddaughter, Amaia, a strong young woman in a moment of change and rupture. Rupture with inherited traditions, and with her father. She faces the challenge of living in accordance with ancestral knowledge even while breaking her ties with the generation that immediately precedes her.

The farm is under threat: a way of being and of understanding the world is disappearing. The different generations who live together in the same space speak different languages and see the world in radically different ways. In this context Amaia feels that the 80 grandmothers who precede her – reaching back into the Neolithic – are a part of her; all of their knowledge gives her the strength and assurance to break free without severing the chain of inherited knowledge, so as to find her own path.

It was important for me that the protagonist be a female character, and that the generational break in the film also create a male-female clash; two ways of seeing and being in the world are set against one another. This is why the heart of the film is the father-daughter confrontation between Tomás and Amaia.

The film is set on a farm, in a rural environment, which is very familiar to me. I am a part of this world, of this chain. All I know about my predecessors is that they have always been connected to the farm. I am in some ways the farm and but also the change, rupture, and abandonment of the farm.

Amama es un personaje de la película, pero más allá del personaje es un concepto, es el conocimiento heredado y transmitido por generaciones, es la sabiduría que nos conecta con nuestros antepasados. La Amama de nuestra película es un personaje de gran belleza y dignidad, un personaje simbólico que no necesita hablar para comunicarse.

La protagonista de la película es la nieta, AMAIA, mujer joven y fuerte que está en un momento de cambio y ruptura.

Ruptura con las tradiciones heredadas y con su padre. Y que se enfrenta al reto de asumir la transmisión de conocimiento y al mismo tiempo romper con la generación anterior.

El caserío está en peligro: una forma de ser y entender el mundo desaparece. Las generaciones que conviven en ese espacio hablan distintos idiomas, ven la vida de manera muy diferente. Y en ese contexto AMAIA siente que las 80 abuelas que le preceden son parte de ella, que toda esa sabiduría le da fuerza y seguridad para romper sin cortar la transmisión de conocimiento y encontrar su camino.

Para mí era importante que la protagonista fuera un personaje femenino, y que la ruptura generacional en la película fuera también un choque de géneros masculino-femenino, dos formas de ver el mundo y actuar. Por eso el eje central de la película es el enfrentamiento padre-hija, TOMÁS-AMAIA. La película está ambientada en el mundo rural, algo que conozco muy bien. Yo soy parte de ese mundo, de esa cadena.

Todo lo que sé de mis antepasados es que siempre han estado vinculados al caserío. Yo soy de alguna manera “caserío” y soy también cambio, ruptura y abandono del caserío.

Lo que él ignora es que va a tener que enfrentarse a Klara, una policía especializada en serial killers, que tiene motivos muy personales para perseguir a los asesinos de mujeres.

Since the preparation of the film, actually since the script itself, we had very clear that a story like this needed a few players who have very strong and complex characters to enhance their antagonism and create more tension between them.

The two main characters of Txarriboda, Fran and Klara, are characters able to do anything to get what they need. But the needs of both are very different. Fran is able to do anything to get money, and Klara may even risk her live in order to get justice. When their interests clash, they began to play the cat and mouse game; maybe the most interesting part of the tape is that the roles of both changes as the story goes, and the one who seems to be running a higher risk, soon becomes stronger and harasses the contrary, and vice versa.

Looping around them one can see is a collection of welldefined characters and many-sided: Igartua, the officer in charge of the investigation, which seeks to maintain his authority even at the cost of assigning a crime to an innocent; Ramon, the old policeman, who wasted his life searching for truthfulness and now will do his last-ditch effort; or Iker, the young policeman who goes from being the coffee boy to become a reluctant hero despite himself...And all this in the midst of a very contemporary history, business man swamped by the crisis and willing to become entrepreneur raiders just to take their business forward and maintain their social and economic status.

Desde la preparación de la película, en realidad ya desde el propio guion, tuvimos muy claro que una historia como ésta necesitaba unos protagonistas que tuvieran caracteres muy fuertes y complejos, para potenciar su antagonismo y crear más tensión entre ellos.

Los dos protagonistas principales de TXARRIBODA, Fran y Klara, son personajes capaces de todo con tal de conseguir lo que necesitan. Pero las necesidades de ambos son muy distintas. Fran es capaz de cualquier cosa por conseguir dinero, y Klara puede llegar incluso a jugarse la vida con tal de conseguir justicia. Cuando sus intereses chocan, entre ellos se entabla un juego como el del gato y el ratón, pero lo más interesante de la cinta es que los papeles de ambos van cambiando a medida que transcurre la historia, y el que parece correr mayor peligro, de pronto se vuelve más fuerte y acosa al contrario, y a la inversa.

Orbitando alrededor de ellos hay una colección de personajes muy definidos y con muchos matices: Igartua, el policía encargado de la investigación, que pretende mantener su autoridad incluso a costa de encalomar un crimen a un inocente; Ramón, el viejo policía, que malgastó su vida en busca de la verdad y ahora quiere quemar su último cartucho; o Iker, el joven agente que pasa de ser el chico de los cafés a ser un héroe a su pesar… Y todo ello en medio de una historia muy contemporánea, de empresas hundidas por la crisis y de empresarios dispuestos a convertirse en tiburones con tal de sacar sus negocios adelante y mantener su status social y económico.

“Negotiator” is a movie that I started writing on my own.

Nobody had asked to do it and I didn´t know if someday it would be realized. I just wanted to write and that’s it. But vanity won (I liked what I had written) and I showed the script to the actors I fantasized as protagonists. Ramon Barea, Josean Bengoetxea, and Carlos Areces were excited about the project and began to consider that it was possible to carry out this script, which I consider very personal and very close to the tone of my first short films, especially with the one titled “Éramos pocos.”

“Negociador” es una película que empecé a escribir por mi cuenta, sin que nadie me lo pidiese y sin saber si algún día se realizaría. Sólo me apetecía escribirla y punto. Pero la vanidad me pudo (me gustaba mucho lo que había escrito) y enseñé el guión a los actores con los que fantaseaba como protagonistas. Ramón Barea, Josean Bengoetxea y Carlos Areces se mostraron entusiasmados con el proyecto y empecé a plantearme que era posible llevar a cabo este guión, que considero muy personal y muy cercano al tono de mis primeros cortos, sobre todo “Éramos pocos”.

The basis of the story is real, but the plot and the characters are completely invented, a “fiction based on a true story.”

Without aspirations to make a realistic chronicle of the negotiations between the Spanish government and ETA, but with the idea of a fiction story about an event supposedly solemn and serious with plenty of little details, becoming this act in a very homespun. It is not a film about the negotiations, but above all the details that surround it. And those details make the film a comedy. It is not a crazy comedy or caricature, but a tangle content and somewhat melancholy.

La base de la historia es real pero el argumento y los personajes son una completa invención, una “ficción basada en hechos reales”. No hay aspiraciones a hacer una crónica realista de las negociaciones entre el gobierno español y ETA, sino el relato ficcionado sobre un acto supuestamente solemne y grave pero repleto de pequeños detalles que convierten el acontecimiento en algo muy de andar por casa. No es una película sobre la negociación, sino sobre todo los detalles que la rodean. Y esos detalles convierten la película en una comedia. No una comedia loca y caricaturesca, sino en un enredo contenido y hasta cierto punto melancólico. “Comedia bajonera” sería la mejor forma de definir “Negociador”.

POSSESSED is my masterpiece as director of animated films.

It is where I apply everything I learned in recent years making short films. From the most traditional animation techniques, step by step, to the most complex 3D integration techniques, and yet every day we discover new things. Because even stop motion has more than a century behind, it continues evolving in the digital age.

All references to the humor and horror films are treated with the utmost detail to create a context and fresh and different characters. Although it is a remake, it does not parody situations of other films. I present it as a tribute to the great classics of horror, but in this case it is directly related to “The Exorcist” and “The Prophecy”. It is completely a new film; anything like this has never been done before. It is like Berlanga directed an episode of “Coyote and the Road Runner.”

POS ESO es mi obra cumbre como director de cine de animación, es donde he puesto todo lo aprendido en los últimos años haciendo cortos, desde las técnicas más tradicionales de animación paso a paso hasta las más complejas técnicas de integración de 3D y efectos especiales y aun así cada día descubrimos cosas nuevas porque aunque la animación en stopmotion cuenta con más de un siglo a sus espaldas, sigue evolucionando en plena era digital.

Todas las referencias al cine de humor y de terror son tratadas con el máximo mimo para crear un entorno y unos personajes diferentes y frescos. Aunque es un remake no intenta hacer situaciones cómicas de otras películas. Yo lo presento como un homenaje a las grandes clásicos terror aunque en este caso bebe directamente del “El Exorcista” y de “La profecía”. Es una película completamente nueva, nunca se ha hecho nada igual, es como si Berlanga dirigiera un episodio de “Coyote y Correcaminos”.

One of the constants I could hear related to our short film Birdboy, also based on Psiconautas, the graphic novel by Alberto, is that it has not left indifferent; containing something that stayed with you once finished, a footprint. When we turn to remember and talk about those movies, books or stories that leave their mark is because they beat us, because they have something that shakes us, sometimes in a harsh and difficult way. As PSICONAUTAS. I felt that blow the first time I read the work of Alberto and immediately called him to propose this adventure of having the characteristic of Birdboy and Dinki as an audiovisual narrative. (Pedro Rivero) PSICONAUTAS is an animated film for adults that through a point near of the starting story, tells a realistic story with a strong poetic and social content.

For us, its maximum value lies in the script and narration.

PSICONAUTAS is a very original story, different, full of contrasts and with interest from the social point of view, as well as intimate. It’s a hard story, starring by anthropomorphic animals that move in a world that it is far from being complacent. (Alberto Vazquez).

Una de las constantes que pude escuchar a propósito de nuestro cortometraje BIRDBOY, basado igualmente en PSICONAUTAS, la novela gráfica de Alberto, es que no dejaba indiferente, que contenía algo que permanecía contigo una vez terminaba, una huella. Y es que cuando acudimos al recuerdo y hablamos de aquellas películas, libros o narraciones que nos dejan huella es porque nos golpean, porque tienen algo que nos sacude, en ocasiones de un modo áspero y difícil.

Como PSICONAUTAS. Yo sentí ese golpe la primera vez que leí la obra de Alberto e inmediatamente le llamé para proponerle esta aventura de contar la propia de Birdboy y Dinki como una narración audiovisual. (Pedro Rivero) PSICONAUTAS es una película de animación para adultos que, mediante un punto de partida cercano al cuento, narra una historia realista de fuerte contenido poético y social.

Para nosotros, su máximo valor radica en el guión y la narración. PSICONAUTAS es una historia muy original, diferente, llena de contrastes y con interés desde el punto de vista social y también intimista. SYNOPSIS SINOPSIS An Autumn Without Berlin tells the story of June (Irene Escolar), a passionate and dreamy girl who, after traveling far from home in pursuit of a better future, returns to her hometown to try to restore broken bonds with Diego (Tamar Novas), her first love, and her father (Ramón Barea).

June will try to revive their dream from their teenager years of moving to Berlin. However, she will soon realize that time has changed Diego, who is now reclusive, never leaving his house.

“Un Otoño sin Berlín” cuenta la historia de June (Irene Escolar), una joven impulsiva y soñadora que después de viajar lejos de sus orígenes en busca de un futuro mejor, regresa a su pueblo para restablecer los lazos rotos con Diego (Tamar Novas), su primer amor, y su padre (Ramón Barea). June tratará de retomar su sueño de adolescencia de marcharse a Berlín pero pronto descubrirá que el tiempo ha cambiado a Diego, quien vive recluido en su casa.

The characters of An autumn without Berlin started a friendship story with no solution. A friendship that hurts, full of knowing silences and shouts that forgive one to another.

Her dream was a failure, and he has spent three months without getting out of his house. A town that they don’t understand is their home. And to dream, their sole way out.

An autumn without Berlin is the story of two young people who are determined to go against the flow, even though they don’t want to. It’s the story of people who feel different, though they don’t know why.

An autumn without Berlin stems from a common feeling that I have noticed in many young people within the last few years. Young people who don’t understand the world, but try to do so on their own. And they live this way, as they wish, in an inventive manner. Looking for something different. The unknown side.

It’s about people who love each other but do not admit it. A story about involuntary therapy. A story about an atmosphere that doesn’t help. A story about entrances and exits. It’s the reflection of two lifestyles. The normal and the weird. And I like the weird one. That’s normality for me.

I like when people makes up the world on their own way. I need to believe that we can make up the world to hold up.

And that’s why I want to do An autumn without Berlin. Because I’m passionate about the world. I love understanding the world. And sometimes, a good story helps me to do so.

Ella vuelve de fracasar en su sueño y él lleva tres meses sin salir de su piso. Un pueblo que no entienden es su casa. Y soñar su escapatoria.

“Un otoño sin Berlín” parte de un sentimiento común que he encontrado en muchos jóvenes en los últimos años. Jóvenes que no entienden el mundo, pero que intentan entenderlo a su manera. Y viven así, a su manera, de una forma inventada.

Buscando lo otro. Lo que no se sabe.

Es una historia de gente que se quiere pero que no lo dice.

Una historia de terapia involuntaria. Una historia sobre un entorno que no ayuda. Una historia de llegadas y huidas.

Es el reflejo de dos modos de vivir. El normal y el extraño. Y me gusta el modo extraño. Es el normal para mí. Me gusta que la gente se invente el mundo a su manera. Necesito creer que nos podemos reinventar el mundo para aguantar.

Y por eso he hecho “Un otoño sin Berlín”. Porque me obsesiona el mundo. Me obsesiona entenderlo. Y a veces, una buena historia ayuda.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIS SORAYA is a social worker from Peru who lives in San Sebastian. Her experience after living 12 years in Euskadi allows her to empathize with immigrants women, understand the pain caused to live away from their family and especially know very well the grief process and the difficulty of reaching to be somebody in the host country. One aim of the association led by Soraya is to organize campaigns to inform the risks of female immigration, both in Euskadi and in the countries where they were born.

In order to do this, Soraya prepares a new trip to Nicaragua and Honduras.

SORAYA es una trabajadora social de origen peruano que vive en San Sebastian. Su experiencia tras haber vivido 12 años en Euskadi le permite empatizar con las mujeres emigrantes, comprender el dolor que provoca vivir lejos de su familia y sobre todo conocer muy bien el proceso del duelo y la dificultad de conseguir ser alguien en el país de acogida.

Uno de los objetivos de la asociación que Soraya lidera es realizar campañas para informar de los riesgos de la inmigración femenina tanto en Euskadi como en los países de origen de las inmigrantes. Para ello, Soraya prepara un nuevo viaje a Nicaragua y Honduras.

The migration is one of the most traumatic experience that a human being can live. Despite having known about this experience very closely; from my European view, I find it difficult to understand the reasons for a mother to be separated from their children for years and leave them thousands of kilometers looking for a better life with all that mean these emotional tears. Is it worth the adventure?

At the same time the migration process entails major changes and losses caused in mothers, feelings of guilt and abandonment to their children. But in contrast, I was intrigued to know how their children live motherhood in the distance, what would be the feelings of the children of these immigrant mothers?. What are the consequences of this distance?

Thanks to the knowledge of the socio-economic situation in their countries of origin and coexistence with their families, “Transit” gives answers to all these questions.

Through this new job and this new perspective, I intend to provide a social reality that although it may seem foreign to an European, it may be that in a near future, we would have to live it the same as our ancestors did. In summary, with this documentary I intend to claim the right to emigrate but also the right not to do so.

Personally, I consider it necessary and vital to spread this kind of documentaries through television and educational environment, as well as the presence at festivals to raise awareness of social realities that affect everyone.

La experiencia migratoria es una de las más traumáticas que puede vivir un ser humano. Pese a haber conocido de cerca esta experiencia, desde mi mirada europea me resulta difícil entender los motivos de una madre para separarse durante años de sus hijos e irse a miles de kilómetros en busca de una mejor vida con todo lo que puede suponer ese desgarro afectivo. ¿Merece la pena esta aventura?

Al mismo tiempo el proceso migratorio supone grandes cambios y pérdidas que provocan en las madres sentimientos de culpa y abandono hacia sus hijos. Pero por oposición, me intrigaba conocer como viven sus hijos la maternidad a la distancia, ¿cuales serán los sentimientos de los niños de estas madres emigrantes?. Que consecuencias se derivan de esta distancia?

Gracias al conocimiento de la situación socio-económica de sus países de procedencia y a la convivencia con sus familias, el proyecto En Tránsito responde a todas estas preguntas.

A través de este nuevo trabajo y esta nueva perspectiva, pretendo dar a conocer una realidad social que aunque pueda parecer ajena para un europeo, pueda ser que en un futuro no muy lejano, nos vuelva a tocar vivirla como lo hicieron nuestros antepasados. En resumen, con este documental pretendo reivindicar el derecho a emigrar pero también el derecho a NO hacerlo.

Personalmente, considero necesario y vital la difusión tanto televisiva como pedagógica de este tipo de documentales así como la presencia en festivales para dar a conocer realidades sociales que afectan a todos.

This is the story of a university research. However, the viewer will think at times, that it is a Sherlock Holmes adventure or a comedy of Woody Allen.

Esta es la historia de una investigación universitaria. Sin embargo, el espectador pensará a ratos, que está ante una aventura de Sherlock Homes o ante una comedia de Woody Allen.

Doing my doctoral thesis about Basque Cinema at the University of the Basque Country, I made a curious discovery. I was struck by an unknown film that it was just quoted in the literature. A documentary that was missin: “Sor lekua”, shot in 1956 by a mysterious filmmaker named “M. Madré” and devoted, apparently, to the seven Basque provinces.

Realizando mi tesis doctoral sobre el Cine Vasco en la UPV, hice un descubrimiento curioso. Me llamó la atención un film desconocido que apenas se citaba en la bibliografía. Un documental que estaba desaparecido: “Sor Lekua”, rodado en 1956 por un misterioso cineasta llamado “M. Madré” y dedicado, al parecer, a las siete provincias vascas.

We began to investigate about it. Track after track, surprise after surprise, after it crossed our path Panamanian journalists, monks of the Abbey of Beloc, important madams of the Parisian bourgeoisie, old scholars of the Basque language and many anonymous people; we made a discovery of incalculable historical value.

Comenzamos a investigar sobre ello. Pista tras pista, sorpresa tras sorpresa, despues de que se cruzaran en nuestro camino periodistas panameñas, frailes de la Abadía de Beloc, grandes madames de la burguesía parisina, viejos académicos de la lengua vasca y muchas personas anónimas, hicimos un descubrimiento de incalculable valor histórico.

This documentary tries to narrate the journey of that search.

En la sidra tiene su origen el caserío vasco; los marineros vascos navegaban con sidra en sus bodegas, y la primera sidra que se bebió en América era de origen vasco. Al igual que en el siglo XVI, también en el XXI la sidra intenta abrirse paso en los nuevos mercados internacionales. Este documental nos servirá de guía en este periplo antropológico, cultural, tecnológico, histórico y científico. Protagonista del viaje: la sidra.

Cider gave those of us involved in making “Sagardoa Bidegile” (Cider Stories) the chance to go on a trip full of pleasant surprises. It was a physical journey because not only did we visit almost every corner of the Basque Country, we crossed the Atlantic, too; but apart from that, cider afforded us the opportunity to go on a trip that turned out to be historical, anthropological, cultural, and, it goes without saying, gastronomic.

I say it was a trip full of surprises for the following reasons: we came across many women, many in senior positions, in a world that we thought traditionally belonged to men; cider is produced nearly everywhere in the Basque Country, even though today we think it is only made in a particular area of Gipuzkoa; not so long ago cider not only enabled Basque farmers to live healthy lives but also determined the very structure of the farms; today, its ancient past offers the key to success beyond Basque borders; it has the capacity to draw young and old alike around the same table; and despite having ancient roots stretching back into the past, research and technology are indispensable tools for cider.

Cider enabled the camera to visit peaceful countryside, hushed archives and cider cellars, and noisy bars, festivities, concert halls and kitchens until a minute-by-minute story brimming with contrasts had been produced.

La sidra nos ha deparado la oportunidad de recorrer un camino repleto de sorpresas a quienes hemos hecho este documental. El viaje ha sido físico —además de casi todas las provincias vascas, hemos visitado también América—, y antropológico, cultural y, cómo no, gastronómico. ¿”Repleto de sorpresas”? Pues sí: pensando que el de la sidra era un mundo casi exclusivamente de hombres, nos hemos encontrado con muchas mujeres; creyendo que era un producto de una determinada zona de Gipuzkoa, resulta que se produce en casi todo el País Vasco... Por otra parte, en un pasado no tan remoto, la sidra fue un modo de vida para nuestros baserritarras, y condicionó hasta la propia estructura física del caserío vasco. En la actualidad, el prestigio de su pasado le permite abrirse paso en nuevos mercados, y reúne en torno a una misma mesa a jóvenes y a mayores. La sidra hunde sus raíces en el pasado, pero avanza hacia el futuro de la mano de la innovación y de la tecnología...

Nuestra cámara ha visitado manzanales, archivos, silenciosas bodegas, tabernas, fiestas, salas de concierto y ruidosas cocinas para filmar, minuto a minuto, esta historia llena de contrastes, dedicada por entero a la sidra.

Eduardo Chillida’s work keeps all its vitality intact. It invites us to experience a acute sensory experience and contains a subtle but wondrous sensuality. Our aim was to be mere listeners and prick up our ears until we manage to appreciate the nuances of the silent music that dwell within his iron, alabaster or paper sculptures.

La obra de Eduardo Chillida conserva intacta su vitalidad, nos invita a una experiencia sensorial de primer orden, contiene una sensualidad agazapada y portentosa.

We wanted to be true to the dance of his shapes and give ourselves to the task of filming the present footprints and words of those who lived very close to him, the questions raised by his work as well as the terrible and luminous shade left behind by the nowdeceased artist.

For over twenty years we have directed and produced documentaries. That has made us travel to very different places on the planet. We have witnessed dramatic situations and wonderful moments. We have seen and heard things incredibly diverse. We met people from all over the world. On the way, we discovered something we want to convey with this film. All men and women on the planet are brothers. We are part of the same thing, we share similar hopes, fears and dreams. Men and women around the world share the same desire for survival.

At the same time, we have discovered something: never in the history of mankind had been built so many walls. Many fences and lines of separation. We are living a historic moment in which, for very different reasons, humans we ourself impose a separation that is always dramatic.

We want to make this film to publicize the terrible reality of the walls in the world and convey and celebrate a very positive idea: we are all brothers.

Olatz insists on something he had forgotten: “The ball is a living being. Each one is different from the rest and it has to be heard properly to recognize them.” The fascination to meet the personality of each ball is what makes possible “Pelota II”.

Treinta años después de realizar “Pelota”, el cineasta danés Jørgen Leth vuelve al País Vasco para grabar un nuevo documental sobre el juego de pelota, esta vez junto a la antropóloga Olatz González Abrisketa. Olatz insiste en algo que él había olvidado: “La pelota es un ser vivo. Cada una es diferente del resto y hay que escucharlas como es debido para reconocerlas”. Esa fascinación por conocer la personalidad de cada pelota es la que hace posible “Pelota II”.

The film is meant to be a faithful reflection of today’s handpelota, without trying to be an exhaustive documentary on the subject. It is intended to show certain sensations and feelings experienced by its protagonists through a series of selfstanding shots. We want each image to be a story in itself and to do this, the framing of the camera has to be frank and “noble”– to borrow a term from pelota. It should not try to show off its own merits, but the value of what it is filming.

The camera is conditioned by what is happening. It lives for the other. In this same sense, the ideas are secondary. They need to be left to one side both in filming and in editing; these process must be open to chance so that they can find the best possible arrangement. Expressive force rules. Meaning is postponed. It is left up to the spectator. As a result, the editing is conditional on the protagonists’ own pace and should serve to “enhance” them. And after the first edit has been completed, if we decide a Voice Over is required, this will not be just an explanatory resource but a medium of dramatization and contrast.

Esta película quiere ser fiel a la actualidad de la pelota a mano, sin pretender hacer un documento exhaustivo sobre la misma.

Pretende mostrar ciertas sensaciones y sentimientos que experimentan sus protagonistas a través de una serie de planos que se sostengan por sí mismos. Queremos que cada imagen sea en sí misma un relato y, para ello, el encuadre de la cámara ha de ser franco, “noble” usando la terminología de la pelota. No debe buscar su propio lucimiento, sino el esplendor de lo que graba. La cámara está supeditada a lo que acontece. Vive para el otro. En este mismo sentido, las ideas son secundarias. Deben dejarse a un lado tanto en el proceso de filmación como en el montaje, procesos abiertos al azar, a encontrar en ellos la mejor solución posible. La fuerza expresiva manda. El significado se pospone. Queda en manos del espectador. Por ello, la edición se somete al ritmo y a engrandecer a los protagonistas. Y la voz en off, de considerarse necesaria una vez realizado un primer montaje, no se utilizará como recurso meramente explicativo sino como medio de dramatización y contraste.

The aim is to bring to a Bilbao audience (and a wider Basque one) a type of cinema that is independent, social and vindicatory that is entirely absent from the Basque commercial circuit. Its end: denounce the violation of Human Rights on the LGTB community all over the globe, show the sexual and affective diversity and become a meeting point throughout high-quality films. Since a very modest start, it has become one the most important festival in the European scene, with more than 9 venues, more than 80 films and proyections in a docen towns in Euskadi.

Originally born in 1994 as a film exhibition by the hand of a group of Fantasy films lovers, and currently organized by the Department of Culture and Education of Bilbao Town Council, Bilbao Fantasy Film Festival FANT is dedicated to films of this genre with the idea of making available, as much to fans as the general public (particularly the youngest film goers) releases that do not reach our screens through conventional channels of distribution and exhibition, as well as offering retrospectives of classic horror, mystery and science fiction films.

Organizado por la Sección de Subacuáticas de la Real Sociedad de Fútbol de San Sebastián desde 1975, el Ciclo de Cine Submarino intenta acercar al público las bellezas que disfrutan los buceadores en el mar y que nos rodean en este Mundo Azul.

Además de proyección de documentales y películas de temática submarina, se organizan coloquios y conferencias por parte de profesionales del sector de la imagen submarina y del entorno marino en general.

Zinegoak nació en 2004 con el firme propósito de acercar al público bilbaíno y del resto de Euskadi, cine independiente, social y reivindicativo muy habitualmente ausente del circuito de exhibición comercial. Su objetivo: denunciar la violación de DDHH de la población LGTB en todo el mundo, mostrar la diversidad afectivosexual, y ser punto de encuentro a través del cine de calidad. Empezó siendo muy modesto hasta convertirse en la actualidad, en uno de los festivales LGTB más importantes del panorama Europeo, con 9 sedes en Bilbao, más de 80 obras y proyecciones en más de una docena de municipios de Euskadi.

Nació como muestra en 1994, de la mano de un grupo de aficionados al género fantástico y en la actualidad, organizado por el Área de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, el festival FANT nació como una muestra dedicada al cine de este género con el fin de poner al alcance de los aficionados y del público en general, particularmente los espectadores más jóvenes, estrenos que no llegaban a nuestras pantallas a través de los canales convencionales de distribución y exhibición, así como de ofrecer retrospectivas de los clásicos (terror, misterio, ciencia-ficción, etc.).

The International Unseen Film Festival ‘Social Films’ from Bilbao displays cinema that reflects diversity and social responsibility. It is a mandatory meeting for those who are related to cooperation for sustainable development, Human Rights, Gender Equality, interculturarilty.

It spreads through 8 high-schools and several headquarters located in different towns: Bilbo, Barakaldo, Erandio, Portugalete, Mungia, Iurreta, Getxo, Leioa and Elorrio. Nevertheless, the main venues are located in Alhondiga Bilbao and Golem Cinemas.

The Festival conducts positive action in order to promote the equality between women and men; and it is probably the only Festival in the world which distributes their films equitably.

Founded in 1959 and currently organized

by Bilbao Town Hall’s department of culture, Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Festival (Zinebi) recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as an international competition of the highest quality has as its fundamental objectives to bring to the people of Bilbao the most recent world production of short films and documentaries, paying special attention to the Basque, Latin America and Spanish sphere, as well as to promote the Basque audiovisual industry and Bilbao as an ideal space for filming all kind of audiovisual projects through the Bilbao Film Commission (BiFiC ).

CORTADA is a short fi lm festival that started in 1997 that takes place in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Sponsored by the Campus of Alava in the Basque Country University (UPV / EHU), is a national contest that rewards works of fi ction, animation and documentary, not forgetting the local proposals GUREAK grouped in sections (short Basques) and HEMENGOAK (Short Alava). Two new sections are Unilabur (students from universities in Spain) and Ehulabur (UPV/EHU students).

From the 2015 edition CORTADA festival qualifies for Goya Awards.

El Festival de Cine Invisible “Film Sozialak” Bilbao se dedica a mostrar un cine repleto de diversidad y compromiso social. Es una cita indispensable para todas aquellas personas que quieren explorar cuestiones relacionadas con la Cooperación para el Desarrollo, los Derechos Humanos, la Equidad de Género, la interculturalidad, la solidaridad, etc.

Se difunde entre otros lugares en 8 institutos, y en diferentes sedes repartidas entre Bilbao, Barakaldo, Erandio, Portugalete, Mungia, Iurreta, Getxo, Leioa y Elorrio siendo su sede central el Azkuna Zentroa de Bilbao y Cines Golem.

El Festival realiza acciones positivas para la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres, convirtiéndolo probablemente en el único festival del mundo que difunde sus obras de forma equitativa.

Fundado en 1959 y organizado actualmente por el Área de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, el Festival Internacional de Cine Documental y Cortometraje de Bilbao (ZINEBI), reconocido por la Federación Internacional de Asociaciones de Productores de Films (FIAPF) como un certamen de la máxima categoría internacional competitiva, tiene como objetivos fundamentales acercar al público bilbaíno la producción mundial más reciente de cortometrajes y documentales- particularmente en los ámbitos vasco, español y latinoamericano-, así como impulsar la industria audiovisual del País Vasco y promover nuestra ciudad como espacio ideal para el rodaje de todo tipo de proyectos audiovisuales a través de la Bilbao Film Commission (BiFiC).

CORTADA es un festival de cortometrajes que comenzó en 1997 que se desarrolla en la ciudad de Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Auspiciado por el Campus de Álava de la Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/ EHU), es un concurso de carácter nacional que premia a trabajos de ficción, animación y documental, sin olvidar las propuestas más locales agrupadas en las secciones GUREAK (cortos vascos) y HEMENGOAK (Cortos alaveses).

Dos nuevas secciones son UNILABUR (Cortos hechos por universitarios) y EHULABUR (cortos dirigidos por alumnos de la UPV/EHU). A partir de la edición de 2015 el festival califica para los Premios Goya de la Academia del Cine Español.
