WE WORK TO CREATE IDYLLIC SPACES, AND WARM ATMOSPHERES, WITH THE BEST WOODS AT THE BEST PRICES.

Basis, a new company in an old business, with more to offer. Four wide ranges of products for different needs, budgets and taste: massive wood flooring 20mm, massive wood flooring 15mm, industry parquet and lammparquet. Over 16 different types of woods taken to the highest levels of technology and quality.

Basis Sucupira

Basis Sucupira New spaces for new life styles. This loft in Berlin was reduced down to its essentials in order to achieve a simple and relaxed atmosphere after a long working day. The Sucupira wood floor runs throughout the space giving it a crisp and modern feel. During the day, the light and its relation to the wood changes, creating different tones and atmospheres. Since this wall-to-wall wood floor must cover both high and low traffic areas, a highly durable and versatile wood has been chosen. Sucupira has high strength ratings in all categories, holds both screws and glue well, and is almost invulnerable to insect attack and decay.

Basis Iroko

Basis Iroko A new domestic space which connects to the outside. This house in Barcelona has the limits of its living room extended to the outside environment. Iroko wood is used as the connector of the living room with the terrace and the swimming pool areas, as it is used both indoors as well as the outdoor wall coverings, deck, and window sills. The use of the same wood in the interior and exterior spaces offers a unique opportunity to expand the perception of space. Iroko is an obvious choice, considering that it would be facing the outside elements as well as human stresses. It has both a natural high resistance to decay and water, and thus is perfect not only for shipbuilding- but pool areas, terraces, bathrooms and other high moisture areas.

Basis American Oak

Basis American Oak Where a welcome and familiar environment predominates. In order to maximize the use of natural light coming from the north and south, this American oak wood floor connects the bathroom with the bedroom, and the living room with the kitchen. In each case, there is a clear feeling of continuity in the space and light. Also the use of Bubinga with the counter in the bathroom harmonizes with the use of marble and oak creating a warm atmosphere. American Oak has a very straight and open grain, which is optically pleasing when covering longer distances. It also is known as a hard, heavy wood giving it long durability and high strength- which is necessary for a floor connecting so many areas with both high traffic and moisture levels.

Basis AfzĂŠlia

Basis AfzĂŠlia Highlighting the Contrast between Light and Dark. This apartment in Lisbon is a perfect harmony between dark and muted furniture and the elegance of Afzelia with its light and refreshing color. Due to the abundant light available to the living space during the day this contrast works particularly well, and the overall feel has a strong modern style with little distracting appelations and accessories. Afzelia is a wood which slowly matures into a mahogany-like color upon exposure to light and air, so the client opted to varnish the floor with UV protection in order to maintain its original color. It also has an irregular grain which can result in uniques forms and is pleasing to the eye. In addition, Afzelia is a hard wood which polishes well, and is considered extremely durable and resistant to most types of insect attack and natural decay.

Cherry

Basis Jatobá

Description The sapwood is clearly differentiated from the heartwood and is white, grey or pinkish in color. Newly cut heartwood can vary in color from salmon-pink to orange-brown, but darkens to a russet to reddish-brown on exposure, and is often marked with dark streaks. The grain is predominantly interlocked and has medium to coarse texture. Typical dry weight: 910kg/m3 Density: 0.91 Properties Jatobá is a very hard, tough, and strong wood. It nails badly and pre-boring is required for screwing. Gluing properties are fair; it stains well, can be brought to a satisfactory finish, but not to a high polish. Durability The heartwood is moderately durable and very resistant to dry-wood termites. It is also very resistant to preservative treatment, whereas the sapwood will take preservative adequately. Basis Doussie

Description The reddish-brown heartwood is clearly differentiated from the pale straw-colored sapwood. The heartwood matures to a mahogany-like color on exposure to the air. The grain is irregular and interlocked, giving the wood a course though even texture. Yellow or white deposits can cause staining. Typical dry weight: 820kg/m3 Density: 0.82 Properties Doussie has only moderate bending classification, because it is liable to distort and exude resin during steaming. It has high crushing and bending strength, low resistance to shock loads and medium stiffness. It polishes well when the grain is filled, but is difficult to stain. Preboring is advised for nailing and screwing. Durability The sapwood can be vulnerable to powder-post beetle attack, but the heartwood is extremely durable and stable, with great resistance to preservative treatment and impregnation Grows Tropical West and East Africa Typical Height: 25-30m Trunk Diameter: 1.2m Price Product

Basis Bubinga

Description The heartwood is a medium red-brown, with lighter red to purple veining. The sapwood is usually a grayish-white, ivory, or streaked ivory-white, and sometimes a brownish-white. Typically, the grain is straight or interlocked and there are distinct annual rings. Fine pores, which may contain a reddish gum, can be found throughout the wood. The texture is fairly coarse but even, and surfaces can be highly lustrous. Typical dry weight: 880kg/m3 Density: 0.88 Properties There can be problems with gum exudation, and the wood has poor steam-bending qualities. It works well with both hand and machine tools, although irregular grain may tend to pick up during planning or moulding. Nailing and screwing require pre-boring, and gluing can be troublesome because of the gum pockets. Bubinga takes stain easily, and can be sanded and polished to an excellent finish. Durability Bubinga is moderately resistant to marine borers and vulnerable to the common furniture beetle. The heartwood is resistant to preservative treatment, and sapwood moderately so. Grows Central and west central tropical Africa Typical height: 21m max. Trunk diameter: 1.2m Price Product

Basis Cherry

Description The heartwood can vary in color from reddish brown to either deep red or a lighter red-brown. European cherry loses some of its reddish tint over time and is generally straight grained and even in texture. American cherry normally has brown flecks and small gum pockets, but has a fine, straight, close grain, and a smooth texture and rich satiny luster. It can also be found with dark wavy streaks. Typical dry weight: Euro 610kg/m3, Amer. 580kg/m3 Density: Euro 0.61, Amer. 0.58 Properties The wood has medium strength and resistance to shock loads. Exposure to ultraviolet light can change the wood to a dark mahogany color. Durability The wood is moderately durable and the heartwood is very resistant to decay, though the sapwood is vulnerable to the common furniture beetle. The heartwood is moderately resistant to preservative treatment. Grows Europe, Western Asia, North Africa, Canada, USA Typical height: 18-24m Trunk diameter: 0.6m Price Product

Sucupira

Basis Wengé

Description The sapwood is whitish or pale yellow and is clearly demarcated from the heartwood, which is dark brown with fine, close, near-black veins and white lines. This patterning gives the wood a very attractive appearance. The grain is fairly straight, with a medium to coarse texture and a low lustre. Typical dry weight: 880kg/m3 Density: 0.88 Properties Wengé is a heavy and dense wood which is highly resistant to abrasion. It has high resistance to shock loads and high bending strength, and medium crushing strength. Pre-boring is required for nailing, and gluing and polishing can be difficult because of the resin cells in the wood. It sands satisfactorily, and once the grain has been filled, a good surface finish can be achieved. Durability It is a durable wood and resistant to fungi and termites. The sapwood is permeable but the heartwood is highly resistant to preservative treatment. Basis IPÊ

Description The sapwood is clearly distinct from the heartwood, and is yellowish-white or white. The heartwood is generally olive-brown, but can be darker, and has darker or lighter streaks. The pores frequently appear as fine yellow dots or lines; this is lapachol powder, which turns deep red in alkaline solutions. The grain is straight to very irregular, with a fine to medium texture and a low medium luster. Typical dry weight: 1080kg/m3 Density: 1.08 Properties Ipê is a strong, dense, and heavy wood. It is rated high in all strength categories except bending, in which it is moderate. Surface preparation is required for gluing, and pre-boring for nailing. It stains, holds screws, sands, and polishes well, provided the lapachol powder is removed first. Durability The heartwood is highly resistant to decay and termite attack, and resistant to other dry-wood insects, but can be affected by marine borer attack. It is highly impermeable for preservative treatment. Grows South America and Caribbean Typical height: 20-25m Trunk diameter: 0.75m Price Product

Basis Iroko

Description The yellowish-white sapwood is clearly differentiated from the heartwood, which is goldenorange to brown. Large deposits of calcium carbonate with darker wood around them are usually present. Yellow bands of soft tissue form a zigzag pattern, and lighter vessel lines can be seen on flat sawn surfaces. The grain is moderately interlocked, with a fairly coarse and even texture, and the wood is mildly lustrous. Iroko is often used as a substitute for teak. Typical dry weight: 640kg/m3 Density: 0.64 Properties Iroko has low resistance to shock loads and low stiffness. It has medium crushing and bending strength, medium density. It glues, nails and stains well, and screws, varnishes and paints satisfactorily. Iroko can be brought to a highly lustrous finish after filling. Durability Although the heartwood has a high natural resistance to decay, it is vulnerable to attack from dry-wood insects, and the sapwood can be attacked by the powder-post beetle. Basis Technical Description The drying and cutting of wood planks is a complex process, and varies according to the wood being dried. The dimensions of the stock, how it is stacked, and the local climate and humidity all have a bearing on the process. How is it dried? Though we talk of wood being dry, it will still contain moisture, and also have the ability to absorb moisture. Wood is hygroscopic, meaning that it can absorb or expel moisture at any time. The quantity of moisture in a piece of wood, expressed as a percentage of the weight known as its moisture content. This can range from 40% to as much as 200% in newly felled timber, and needs reducing o relatively stable levels before the wood can be worked. However, a piece of wood kiln-dried to 12 moisture content will not necessarily stay that way. It could dry out further if used in a dry centrally heated office, or it could gain moisture if used in a humid or damp environment. So, how dry the wood needs to be depends largely on where it is finally going to be used. If a woodfloor with a 15% moisture content is placed in a warm, dry home, it will probably split, whereas Basis woodfloors with a water content of 10% it will be fine. It is therefore, a primary issue for Basis, not only to work with the best woods but also to provide them with the most optimal water content. We achieve that by working with state-of-the-art german drying machines. On demand, we can also provide wood with other percentages of water content if needed. The Cutting? Basis uses top performance molders with an ultra-modern jointing system. Through our state-of-the-art technology we offer different types of cut with a width of 20mm for floating wood floors, 15mm for glued floors, industrial parquet format for those who need the most resistant floors and lammparquet in 14 and 15mm for the tight budgets who still want to enjoy the best quality of wood.
