EARLY CHILDHOOD The Block and Dreeben School for Young Children: where play and learning connect! Our curriculum is founded upon the richness of Judaic tradition and values and learning is promoted through play and hands-on experiences. The joyfulness of childhood is honored and nurtured and creativity is promoted. We have a strong focus on children’s academic development through an approach that fosters a love for literacy, math and science. Each day we provide opportunities for social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth that prepare children for kindergarten. In our NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accredited program, children develop research, inquiry and critical thinking skills. Children construct meaning from their learning environments which seamlessly blend the richness of Jewish values, traditions and holiday celebrations into our early childhood education. In our state-of-the-art classrooms, our children are encouraged to embark on an exploration of concepts, gain awareness and understanding of literacy and numeracy, and become more articulate, competent, and confident individuals. The early childhood program is a JCC member-exclusive program. Visit www.jccsanantonio.org/ecd for more information and call 210302-6846 to set up a visit to our school.

Community Is Our Middle Name

The Block and Dreeben School For Young Children at the Barshop Jewish Community Center is a special place where children are valued and loved. We focus on high quality care and education of young children. We also value families & community. Our “Community Building Goal is to bring our families together for meaningful experiences in which parents can connect with their children and other families. We have a monthly “Community Kabbalat Shabbat where all the classes come together to celebrate and families are encouraged to attend and bring other guests. We have hosted “Community Dinners for specific age groups where the families shared a meal and attended a parenting workshop while their children played in their classrooms. We have had “Community Playdates where children from one classroom visit other classrooms and play together. We also collect “Community Tzedakah every week so we can pool our resources and help members of our San Antonio Community. We love celebrating our school community, our JCC community, and our San Antonio community!

During the school year the Early Childhood Department (ECD) will offer various parenting workshops. • All workshops are offered twice - 9:30am and 5pm to accommodate family’s busy schedules. • These helpful workshops are FREE to JCC Members and $10 to the general community. • Participants leave the workshops with new techniques, parenting tips, and the ability to respond to challenging behaviors with newfound effectiveness. Visit www.jccsanantonio.org/ecd for dates and topics or call 210-302-6846 for more details.
