It’s a match! Pelican Charitable Foundation’s challenge grant raises nearly $400,000 for expansion of Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation n Friends of Barrow Neurological Institute successfully tackled the Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation (CTN) Triple Challenge and in the process helped raise $378,000 for a major expansion of CTN. The CTN Triple Challenge was the brainchild of The Pelican Charitable Foundation, which pledged to contribute $2 for every $1 given to Barrow Neurological Foundation by Dec. 31, 2014, for the CTN expansion—up to $100,000. When Barrow benefactors exceeded that amount and raised $126,000, The Pelican Charitable Foundation directors increased their original pledge from $200,000 to $252,000. The directors of The Pelican Charitable Foundation have personally seen patients benefit from CTN’s lifeenhancing services and wanted to give

more patients the opportunity to do the same. Money raised through the challenge will go toward a building project now underway that will double the size of the CTN facility, enabling it to treat twice as many patients. Since opening in 1986, CTN has helped more than 800 patients regain the skills they need to return to productive, fulfilling lives. But space constraints at CTN have limited the number of patients who can be treated, leaving many patients on a waiting list and delaying the treatment that is so essential to successful recovery. Brain injuries dramatically change the lives of patients and their families, often leaving them with uncertainties about the future and the difficult recovery process. The team of doctors and therapists at CTN help patients regain

the skills they need to live as independently as possible. According to a family member of a CTN patient, “Patients’ lives are saved in the operating room, but the Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation is where they get their lives back.” (To learn more about the recovery process, read Amanda Ippel’s story on the preceding page.) With the $378,000 raised through the CTN Triple Challenge, Barrow can now complete five of the eight phases of the CTN expansion project. An additional $560,000 is needed to complete the final three phases. To make an online, tax-deductible gift to this important project, visit n
